1. Flower Algebra
The pictures below shows two square flower boxes in a park. There are blue flowers on the edges and red flowers on the inside.
Imagine larger square flower boxes. Investigate how many flowers of both colors are needed if the sides of the flower boxes have 5 plants, 6 plants, 7 plants, etc. Describe how the total number of blue and red flowers vary. Describe the relationships you find in words and formulas. It is possible that there are other types of sets of points other than square flower boxes. Investigate how the number of edge points and inside points vary in some other sets of points, rectangles, triangles ...
When assessing your work, the teacher will consider the following: how systematical you are in your investigations. which relationships you find. how well you formulate the relationships you have found. how well you investigate other types of sets of points. how well you present your work.

For the purpose of sas assignment, show the prices for the different year models of Volvo 245 in an appropiate diagram. sa has heard that on the average the price of Volvos decreased with 8 000 kr each year. Does this rule of thumb agree with the values which are included in the investigation? Can you find a similar or another rule of thumb for the BMW? If you were going to buy one of the car models, how could this investigation be of help to you?
When assessing your work, the teacher will consider the following: how clear, informative, and distinct your diagrams are. how well you motivate if the rule of thumb for Volvo agrees with the investigation or not. how well you motivate your rule of thumb for the BMW or the absence of a rule of thumb . How well you describe your usage of the investigation.
