What to Know

Critics Consensus

Showing a sweeter side of director Mike Flanagan's deeply-felt emotional register, The Life of Chuck is a buoyant and often wonderful adaptation of one of Stephen King's more cosmically optimistic tales.

Audience Says

The Life of Chuck refreshingly defies the norm, delivering a heartfelt non-linear experience that brings joy in the form of a dancing Tom Hiddleston.

Adam Graham Detroit News ..."Chuck" sustains its momentum from scene to scene, and even if its big reveal arrives with more of a whimper than a bang, it still has plenty of blood pumping through its veins. Rated: B- Jun 13, 2025 Full Review Thomas Floyd Washington Post Now that he’s delivered an elegy in the vein of “Stand By Me” or “The Shawshank Redemption,” Flanagan has made one thing clear: He’s attuned to King at every frequency. Rated: 3.5/4 Jun 12, 2025 Full Review Shirley Li The Atlantic I fell for the film’s earnest insistence that each of us has access to an inner world no one else can ever fully know; that message, as trite as it may be, is particularly touching because of its pointed delivery. Jun 12, 2025 Full Review John Urbancich JMuvies In terms of complete filmmaking, it's hard to imagine asking for anything more meaningful than what we get to see in an extraordinary movie about an ordinary guy. Rated: 4.5/5 Jun 14, 2025 Full Review Robert Horton The Scarecrow Strange movie—neither fish nor fowl, neither shaw nor shank, and just a little too much uplift for this skeptic. Rated: 2.5/4 Jun 14, 2025 Full Review Frank Wilkins Reel Reviews Ultimately, Flanagan’s latest film reminds us of one simple truth: in life, it’s the little things that matter most. Kevin T Challenging, entertaining, heartfelt, and ultimately uplifting. Take later teens and up as long as youre okay with a lot of F-bombs. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 06/15/25 Full Review Robyn Som Heart warming, well written, excellent acting. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/15/25 Full Review El Chapman Wow. Not what I was expecting but I should have figured. Mike Flanagan is very good at tackling these kinds of stories. I am not sure how most people will like the unique structure this movies has. In my screening when the movie ended there was one lady that cried out, "Wait, wait, wait, wait....WHAT!???". I was not taken aback by it, thankfully she waiting till the movie ended, since this movie is kind of done in reverse in a way. I remember seeing an interview with the director where he talks about how he insisted on keeping the structure this short story in based intact and did this movie outside of major studios. It was picked up on the Toronto Film Festival and distributed by Neon, who are among the best studios working now. But what is the movie about? Well, feels cliche to talk about or even say "this is the movie we need right now" or whatever, but man did I need this movie now. Chuck the main character who is able to find the light amongst the darkness in life. At the end of the day. this movie is about remembering what is really important and to do what you love. Well, I may have over hyped this movie but I don't care. I want to see this movie again to solidify my thoughts but man what a film. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 06/15/25 Full Review Albert Wonderfully heartwarming and bittersweet. One of the best movies I’ve seen this year. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/15/25 Full Review constance m Thought provoking in the best way, moments and delivery by the entire cast that were so emotionally moving and meaningful, even in small responsive ways. First rate production on all levels, and beautifully shot. Excellent film!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/15/25 Full Review Janet F At first a little hard to follow but the last third of the movie pulled it together. It was good just not a favorite.
