Demonstration Lesson Plan in Mathematics 6 Gennie

1) The lesson plan teaches students how to perform addition on integers using number lines, algebra tiles, and counter chips. It provides examples of adding integers with the same and different signs. 2) Students will practice adding integers through examples using materials and on paper. They will also interpret word problems involving integer addition. 3) A quiz evaluates students' understanding of integer addition through performing operations on integers and interpreting examples using manipulatives. The lesson aims to help students master the basic skill of integer addition.

• Interpret addition on integers using materials such as algebra tiles and counter
chips.
• Perform addition on integers. (M6NS-IIi-156)

Materials: Powerpoint Presentation
Values Integration: Expressing the value of frugality.
III. Procedure:
A. Preparatory Activities:
1. Daily Routine
1.1 Prayer
1.2 Checking of Attendance
1.3 Class Rules
2. Drill:
Directions: Add the following numbers mentally.
1. 15 + 8 =
2. 6 + 12 =
3. 7 + 15 =
4. 12 + 9 =
5. 4 + 41 =
3. Review: (5E’s- Engage)
A. Directions: Compare the following integers by writing the symbols
>, < or = or on the line.
1. +13 _____ +8
2. -6 _____ -2
3. +7 _____ -15
B. Directions: Express each as an integer.
_______4. a withdrawal of Php 2,000 from my savings account
_______5. a harvest of 500 sacks of rice
4. Motivation:
Role playing of selling and buying items. One pupil will act as the seller and another
pupil will act as the buyer. Real objects and counter chips will be used in the conduct
of role play.

Valuing: What items do you always buy? How do you practice the value of frugality?

B. Developmental Activities
1. Presentation: (5E’s-Explore)
The school canteen teacher, Ma’am Nerissa, bought different stuffs for
Php1,100.00 and sold them in the school canteen. On Monday, her sales was Php
700.00; and on Tuesday, Php800.00. But on Wednesday, she lost her remaining stuffs
amounting to Php200.00 because they were already spoiled. Considering the sales
from Monday to Wednesday, did Ma’am Nerissa gain or lose?

To know whether Ma’am Nerissa gained or lost, we have to consider her total
sales which will then be compared with her capital.
(+700) + (+800) + (-200) = 1,300
Therefore, the total sales from Monday to Wednesday is Php1,300.00.
Comparing this to the capital of Php1,100.00, we can say that Ma’am Nerissa gained
Php200.00 since her total sales of Php1,300.00 is more than her capital which is
Php1,100.00.
2. Discussions: (5E’s- Explain)
The teacher will make use of the video lesson to discuss the topic.
https://youtu.be/2esOmsJ2WYE?si=0YeCtTt4gr2ubwma
Key Ideas:
In using the number line for adding integers:
• Always start at zero.
• Add a positive integer by moving to the right on the number line.
• Add a negative integer by moving to the left on the number line.
In using the algebra tiles or counter chips for adding integers:
*• If the addends have the same sign, the numbers are added and the
common sign is affixed to the sum.
• If the addends have different signs, the signs are first disregarded and the
difference between the numbers is obtained. The sign of the greater
number is affixed to the answer. (Take note that signs are also disregarded
when determining the greater number.)

To remember the idea easily, remember this.

3. Fixing Skills: (5E’s –Elaborate)

A. Directions: Describe addition of integers using the number line by adding the
following integers.
1. ( +2)+ ( +5)
2. (+17) + (+6)
3. (-17) + (- 8)

B. Directions: Interpret addition on integers using algebra tiles and counter chips by
adding the following integers.
4. (-10) + (+20)
5. (+15) + (-20) + (+30)

C. Directions: Perform addition on integers by adding the following.

6. ( +20)+ ( +15)
7. (+70) + (+60)
8. (-15) + (- 30)
9. (-10) + (+20)
10. (+5) + (-6) + (+9)
4. Generalization:
How do we add integers with the same signs?
How do add integers with different signs?

C. Application: (Group Activity)

Directions: Interpret addition on integers using materials such as counter chips and
number line.

1. Mrs. Reyes lost 3 kg when she was ill. After recovering, she gained 7 kg. She went to a
fitness center and lost 2 kg. How much did she finally lose or gain?
(using number line)
2. Carlo saved P2,550.00 from his daily allowance. He spent P850.00 to buy a pair of
jeans and 450.00 to buy a shirt. How much of his money was left?
(using counter chips)

IV. Evaluation: (5E’s –Evaluate)

A. Directions: Perform addition on integers on the following. Write the letter of the
correct answer.
1. (-25) + ( +17)
a. -42 b. +42 c. +8 d. -8
2. (+73) + (-29)
a. +44 b. -44 c. +102 d. -102
