Brian Lowry Variety Ultimately, the program is reasonably good fun for X-Men aficionados, but the reliance on past movie and comic references... blunts the appeal, as does the occasionally stiff animation quality. Apr 1, 2020 Full Review Stuart Ja Screen Rant Blame whatever you like- the blatant Wolverine pandering, the departure from tradition- but the interest just wasn't enough to continue the story. Feb 19, 2019 Full Review Dan Phillips IGN Movies The question heading into the third part of the season finale remained whether they'd be able to pull it all together in an entertaining way that still felt logical. As it turns out, the answer is mostly yes. Rated: 9/10 Feb 19, 2019 Full Review James Hunt Den of Geek Where the series really succeeds is in its wide use of characters major and minor, all pulled from the comics. Feb 19, 2019 Full Review Will Wade Common Sense Media Though aimed at kids, Wolverine and the X-Men has enough depth to appeal to older fans of the popular Marvel Comics franchise as well. Rated: 4/5 Feb 19, 2019 Full Review Rob Vaux Collider Wolverine and the X-Men also succeeds in bringing the sheer variety of characters to life without making the show feel crowded. Audience Member this tv show grabbed my attention and held it from episode 1 through episode 26-just skip episode 20 breakdown. they do a great job of bringing in random characters to continue the storyline and giving them a good reason not to just stay with the team. there are a number of fun little plot twists and even at the final episode you dont know how they are going to pull it off. its too bad that they didnt continue for another season. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/08/24 Full Review Jacob B A pretty good Marvel cartoon that, given how Kevin Feige is an executive producer on this show, also gives us an idea at what the X-Men might be like in the MCU. True, Wolverine and the X-Men isn't perfect with the titular character hogging the spotlight, elements that feel like they're being done with the audience who saw the movies in mind* (e.g. the attempts at shipping Kitty Pryde and Iceman does bring to mind The Last Stand's love triangle) and the characterisations aren't particularly complex but this is by no means a bad superhero cartoon. The animation's good, the character designs are appealing (I really liked Rogue's design here), the overarching story is compelling and the action's enjoyable. Had this series been renewed for a second season, I could see room for growth and acknowledging certain criticisms but overall, Wolverine and the X-Men is a solid show that just happened to have the misfortune of being stuck in the shadow of the beloved '90s cartoon and the well-received Evolution...and that's without taking into account how by the time it was released, it found itself playing second fiddle to the movies. Why isn't this show on Disney+ anyway? *Do not worry, dear readers. Unlike some later Marvel cartoons, this is not a cynical advertisement for the films disguised as a TV show that just so happens to take similar cues...though we did have two half-hour productions focusing on Wolverine and the Hulk in 2009...they even tried to claim one of them was canon with this show despite not really meshing well with continuity. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/07/23 Full Review Martin F It really suffers from the comparison with the X-men (1993) and X-men: Evolution, two excellent adaptations of the comics. The biggest flaw here are the characters, they are all limited to basic action cartoon characters, only Wolverine and Emma Frost have the chance to be a little interesting but even that is not consistent most of the time they are as charismatic as the rest of the cast, which mean like a cardboard. The soundtrack is also pretty basic and make the whole show sounds cheap. The highest point of this cartoon is the main storyline, maybe the best Dark Phoenix adaption, the twist and the more grounded approach to the iconic comic is amazing. That said, it takes time to get to the interesting part (the last 4 episodes) and before that the story is boring and doesn't feel like it's going somewhere, also who said Dark Phoenix said Jean Grey, and with her missing for most of the show, the impact of the finale suffers from it (it's still good but it could have been perfect) Wolverine is not the best character to put as a leader, the first episodes struggle to keep his angry lone wolf side while making him the leader of the X-men. I liked all the cameos, there are so many of them, it's a lot of wink toward the X-men fans but for newcomers seeing for a few minutes a brand-new mutant saving the situation with a very appropriate power and then disappear feel like bad writing. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 10/02/23 Full Review julian p I'm gonna be fully honest with everyone else this is one of the greatest Marvel shows I have ever watched I love Wolverine he's been my favorite X-Men character since IDK I forgot. Literally nothing about this show is bad its all perfect because it has perfect characters, voice acting, animation, action, writing, ending, adventure, villains, story, and mystery especially towards the end you'll always wonder what happens next so this is literally a perfect show and I recommend for anyone to watch.
