What’s New
As you face your new day, you have to check yourself if you feel good and
ready to go! Let this be your habit when you learn and work in EIM. Always
remember, a good routine of maintenance for your tools is one thing that you can do
to make sure that the tool you need is working when you need it.
Let’s find out if you could answer the activity below in order to facilitate your
learning in this module.
Direction: Identify if the statement is true or false on how to take care properly the
electrical tools. Write your answer in your activity notebook.
_________1. To make sure that your electric tools are ready to go where you are,
keep them clean and free of dust. Spend time to clean out the dust
on your tools every once in a while they are inactive in storage.
_________2. Look for tear/cut insulator on the power cords on your electric tools.
This will ensure that your electric tool can get the power that it needs
to function without an accident.
3
_________3. Use tools correctly and for their intended purposes. Follow the safety
directions and operating procedures recommended by the
manufacturer. When working on a circuit, do not use approved tools
with insulated handles.
_________4. Keep tools and cords away from heat, oil, and sharp objects. These
hazards can damage insulation. If a tool or cord heats up, continue
using it. Report the condition to a supervisor or instructor
immediately.
_________5. Portable electrical tools are classified by the number of insulation
barriers between the electrical conductors in the tool and the worker.
_________6. Keep your electric tools stored in their original cases and containers.
This will keep them free of dust and dirt while they are not being
used.
What is It
A. Electrical Power Tools- are tools that eliminate the need for manpower and
training that hand tools require. They do their job quickly, accurately and
consistently, allowing you to focus on the job at hand instead of worrying about
whether or not your tool will function correctly
1. Electric drill has an electric motor that drives a chuck. The chuck has jaws
that can be opened and then closed to grip a drill kit.
4
2. Angle grinder is a handheld power tool that is used for cutting, grinding,
and polishing. Also known as a disc grinder, angle grinders are powered
by electric motor, petrol engine or compressed air.
3. Zig saw is a tool consisting of a hand blade, wire or chain with a toothed
edge. It is used to cut through relatively hard material, most often wood.
The cut is made by placing the toothed edge against the material and
moving it forcefully back and forth.
B. Hydraulic Tools are hand - operated machine with hydraulic drive that is
employed for various technological operations such as tightening threaded joints and
pressing in and out parts.
1. Pipe blender is designed to bend mild steel pipe. Makes smooth, wrinkle-
free bends.
Tools are very useful to us in our homes especially to our job. But tools that
are no longer functional may cause harm.
a. Make an inventory of functional and non-functional tools
5
b. Classify your tools according to is function.
Non-functional tools and equipment are those that are not able to perform its
regular function because of impaired and damage part. Study the sample checklist
if the tool is operational or defective.
Functional tools and equipment are those that are in good condition and can
perform its regular functions.
Below is a sample form which you may use if you will be tasked to classify tools and
equipment into functional or non-functional

• If actuators (such as hydraulic cylinders) are placed in the flow of fluid,
pressure will be exerted on the piston of the cylinder, resulting in a mechanical
movement of the piston.
• As a result, this mechanical movement allows for the lifting, lowering,
expansion or retraction of heavy loads, with greater control and force.
Before working on any hydraulic system, always assess the task you are going
to do for potential hazards and danger. This is especially important if attempting a
task for the first time or if you are unfamiliar with the circuit or system/equipment.
If you are unsure, seek training from competent and experienced professionals before
working with any hydraulic system.
To ensure that your electric tools work when you need them, you must take
proper care of them. A good routine of maintenance for your tools is one thing that
you can do to make sure that the tool you need is working when you need it.
1. Clean out the Dust. To make sure that your electric tools are ready to go when
you are, keep them clean and free of dust. Spend some time to clean out the dust
every once in a while, on your tools while they are inactive in storage.
2. Check the Cords. Look for tear/cut insulator on the power cords on your electric
tools. This will ensure that your electric tool can get the power that it needs to
function without an accident.
3. Use the right tool correctly. Use tools correctly and for their intended purposes.
Follow the safety directions and operating procedures recommended by the
manufacturer. When working on a circuit, use approved tools with insulated
handles.
4. Protect your Tools. Keep tools and cords away from heat, oil, and sharp objects.
These hazards can damage insulation. If a tool or cord heats up, stop using it.
Report the condition to a supervisor or instructor immediately.
5. Use double-insulated tools - Portable electrical tools are classified by the number
of insulation barriers between the electrical conductors in the tool and the worker.
6. Storing Your Tools- Keep your electric tools stored in their original cases and
containers. This will keep them free of dust and dirt while they are not being used.
