Foreword/Introduction

“The important thing is not so much that every child should be taught, as that
every child should be given the wish to learn.” -John Lubbock

Welcome to my portfolio. I am Rose-Ann L. Eder, a student of Surigao del

Norte State University, Surigao City-Main Campus, under the program Teacher
Certificate Curriculum.

I choose to be a teacher I want to make difference. I could have chosen a

different field where I could serve the society but I think that Education is the
right field where I could fully realized my goal.

I believe that Education is the most important asset any one will have,
and one asset which has the greatest impact on the person and to everyone
around them. While almost every child has the opprtunity to gain access the
quality education, not everyone has the chance to be given quality education
especially those students with disabilities and exceptionalities. Eventhough
these students are regognized as a future models of the community, they
continue to be discriminated, misunderstood, and left out by the majority.

As a future educator, I have come to the right place to eliminate the

misconception about this students. My experience in off-campus training made
me realized that teaching needs time, patience, understanding, compassion,
passion and optimism.

Let me say that the teaching is the profession which shows man road
which leads him to God as the teacher touches not only the mind of the learners
but also their heart. If we have the jar of heart to teach, a mission and vision in
life to share our knowledge to our students then it’s our vocation not just a job
to earn salary but also to reap a good fruit through learners who gain knowledge
and discover their own capabilities from our guidance.

I present this portfolio for you to read about my Philosophy of Teaching

and experiences during my Practice Teaching/Off-Campus Training. My goal is to
show you my strengths that would make me an effective teacher.

My Prayer as
a Practice
Teacher
Our Father in heaven whom created the world, the
almighty source of knowledge and wisdom, above
all you are everything.

Thank you Lord God for the opportunity to touch

the lives and hearts of my students. Bless us each
day and guide us through your loving presence in
every journey of our lives. Help me to be a fine
teacher, to be merciful to my students, to balance
mercy and discipline in the right measure for each
students, to keep my genuine love as much as
possible, to keep my lessons always interesting, to
recognize what motivates each of my students, to
be fair at all, tobe a good role model, but most of
all, make me your instrument to show your great
love to all my students.

Philosophy of a
Beginning Teacher
“Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all.”
-Aristotle

Education is broad in a sence that it is important to consider how

students develop characrter from which they can be productive and
competent with their own philosophies in life. Therefore, educating the mind
without educating the heart of a student is no longer an education at all. It is
one of the most powerful weapons for changing the world and become an
ideal society we wanted to have in this generation and in future.

As an educator, my role is to give each one of my learners the best

possible education, to motivate them to use it to reach their full potential,
and to prepare them to be productive citizens. I strive not only to share my
knowledge with them but also to instill in them a passion for learning.

I believe each and every students has the potential to bring something
unique and special to the world. I will help children to develop their potential
by believing in them as capable individuals. I will assist my future students in
discovering who they are, so they can express their own ideas. I have a vision
of a world where people learn to respect, accept and embrace the differences
between us, as the core of what makes life so fascinating.

My classroom will be caring, safe and equitable environment

where each students can blossom and grow. I will allow them to become
responsible members of our classroom community by using strategies
such as class meetings, positive discipline, and democratic principles. In
showing them how to become responsible for themselves as well as their
own learning, I am giving them the tools to become successful in life, to
believe in themselves, and to love themselves.

I will present curriculum that involves the interests of the children

and makes learning relevant to life. I will incorporate themes, integrated
units, projects, group work, individual work, and hands-on learning in
order to make them active learners. Finally I will tie learning into the
world community to help children become caring and active members of
society.
