Foreword
This portfolio is the result of three months of stay of the author in Anislag National
High School. There the author conducted her practice teaching, she observed, interact and
demonstrate her acquired knowledge during his college.

This portfolio represents the thing that was done by the author during his practice
teaching. This will serve as memorabilia of his experiences during her stay in Anislag
National High School, also this will served as a reference for the author and other student
who has the same agenda with the author.

Within this portfolio you are going to witness the pride, sacrifices and hard work
done by the author to make the portfolio better for future purposes. The author is hoping that
you will be able to like and learn whatever the things that you seeing, reading and learn from
her work.

Practice teaching is of paramount importance in the vocational training of student

teachers. It is this immersion into the real world of school that prepares the student in
making the transition from trainee to professional. The motivation for this study arose from
the researcher's own experience of practice teaching as well as protracted contact with
student teachers in a professional capacity. This research project attempted to explore and
articulate an understanding of some of the experiences of student teachers following their
final practice teaching session at a school before graduating. In order to garner a rich and
nuanced perspective of these experiences, a phenomenological research methodology was
utilized. The following themes were identified: • A sense of it being mainly a positive
experience • An awareness of the importance of relationships • An awareness of the cultural
and contextual make-up of learners • A sense of ambivalence around sources of anxiety • A
sense of ambivalence around the value of the journal • A learning experience The findings of
the study revealed that all of the student teachers experienced practice teaching as being
mainly a positive experience, although all the participants had experienced anxiety in some
form around maintaining discipline. Practice teaching played an important part in their
development as teachers by providing a context wherein they could merge theory and
practice find their own teaching and management styles as well as cope with the demands of
multi-tasking that being in a classroom demands. The paramount role of the host teacher and
the importance of positive relationships with all stakeholders were fore grounded - as was
the importance of an awareness of the cultural and contextual make-up of learners. This
study hopes to make a contribution towards the understanding of student teachers'
experiences of practice teaching.

Educational Philosophy
I believed that each child is a unique individual who needs a secure, caring and
stimulating atmosphere in which to grow and mature emotionally, intellectually,
physically and socially. It is my desire as educator to help students meet their fullest
potential in this area by providing an environment that is safe, support risk taking and
invites a sharing of ideas. There are three elements that I believed are conducive to
establishing such an environment, 1.) The teacher acting as a guide, 2.) Allowing the
Childs natural curiosity to direct his or her learning and 3, promoting respect for all
things and all people.

When the teachers role is to guide, providing access to information rather than
acting as the primary source information, the students search for knowledge is met as
they learn to find answers to their questions. For students to construct knowledge,
they need the opportunity to discover fort themselves and practice skills in authentic
situations. Providing student’s access to hands on activities and allowing adequate
time and space to use materials that reinforce the lesson being studied creates an
opportunity for individual discovery and construction of knowledge to occur.

Equally important to self-discovery is having the opportunity to study things

that are meaningful and relevant to one’s life and interest. Developing a curriculum
around students interest foster intrinsic motivation and stimulates the passion to learn.
One way to take learning in direction relevant to student interest is to invite student’s
dialogue about the lessons and units of study. Given the opportunity for input,
students generate ideas and set goals to make for much richer activities than I could
have created or imagined myself. When students have ownership in the curriculum,
they are motivated to work hard and master the skills necessary to reach their goals.

Helping students to develop a deep love and respect for themselves, others,
and their environment occurs through an open sharing of ideas and a judicious
approach to discipline. Then the voice of students is heard, and environment evolves
where students feel free to express themselves. Class meetings are one way to
encourage such dialogue. I believed children have greater respect for their teachers,
their peers, and the lessons presented when they feel safe and sure of what is expected
of them. In setting fair and consistent rules initially and stating the importance of
every activity, students are shown respect for their presence and time. In turn they
learn to respect themselves, others and environment.

For me, teaching provides an opportunity for continual learning and growth.
One of my hopes as an educator is to instill a love of learning in my students, as I
share my own passion for compassionate, strong and dedicated individuals who are
excited about working with children. In our competitive society it is important for
students to not only received solid education, but to work with someone who is aware
of and sensitive to their individual needs. I am such a person and will always strive to
be the best educator that I can be.

Episode
1 What Lies Ahead?

My Learning Episode Overview

My first episode will explain the expectations of my Teacher Education

Institution Daraga Community College and my Cooperating School Anislag
National High School. This will allow me to better understand the do’s and don’ts of
teaching in the real workplace. The orientation conducted by my practicum
supervisor and the cooperating principal will ensure my success as a student intern.

My Targets (Learning Outcomes)

At the end of this activity, I will be able to:

 Analyze the expectations of my cooperating school and that of my teacher education
institution.
 Reflect on the things I need to do to become a successful student intern.
 Follow all the policies and procedures of my cooperating school.
 Accomplish the matrix of expectations.
 Write my responsibilities as a student intern.

My Big Ideas (Learning Essentials)

As a student intern, I need to know the following terms to fully understand my

Orientation – An introductory stage in the process of new employee

assimilation, and a part .of his or her continuous socialization process in an
organization.
Expectations – A strong belief that something will happen or be the case.
Cooperating School – A school where student teachers will have their off-
campus practice teaching.
Cooperating Principal – A person with highest authority or most important
position in an organization or institution.
Cooperating Teacher – A teacher with a minimum of three years of teaching
experience and a Master’s Degree who is mentoring a teacher candidate.

My Analysis
Complete the structured frame.
Orientation sessions are conducted because it is important to know the policies
and procedures of the cooperating school. The things you should be expect and to
do to become yourself in the wonderful world of teaching. It is also important to
become aware to things around you, what are the things should be done.
Orientation also conducted so that if we have some questions raised it easily
answered, and it is cleared to us the things before we go in the real world of
teaching.
I need to follow the policies and procedures of the cooperating school so that we
should have a good relationship to the school and if we followed the rules and
policies of the school we become a role model especially to the students to do the
right things in the eyes of others and in God.\

My Reflection / My Insights
A. How did I feel after orientation? Complete the empty face and explain why
you felt that way? What are your joys/apprehensions?
I need to follow the policies and procedures of the
cooperating school so that there is a smooth relationship to
everyone and to the cooperating school. A good teacher
should also be a good listener and can follow the policies by
their self because if have the discipline to their self they can
instruct the students nicely in a smooth way after the
orientation.

B. Am I really prepared to teach? Why? Why not? YES!

For me teaching is not an easy task. As a teacher you should be
knowledgeable, flexible, creative, skill full, imaginative, passionate and
etc. This should be possessed if you want to be a good educator. Teaching
is a noble profession. There are so many things to know and to learn. So,
my mind saying teaching is good but my heart telling more practice and
experience to be uphold in able to possess the world of teaching. Before
practice teaching I feel so excited and at the same time nervous, because I
really don’t have an idea what kind of student I will have, I prayed to have
a nice students but still the word diversity of learners always sinking on
my mind and I think it will be my nightmare. In staying in my cooperating
school helps me to have a bird’s eye view in the field of education, one of
the major problem I encountered is the diversity of learners.

School Vision
We dream of Filipinos who passionately love their country
and whose values and competencies enable them to realize
their full potential and contribute meaningfully to building
the nation. As a learner-centered public institution, the
Department of Education continuously improves itself to
better serve its stakeholder.
School’s Mission

To protect and promote the right of every

Filipino to quality, equitable, culture-based, and
complete basic education where:
 Students learn in a child- friendly, gender-
sensitive and motivating environment.
 Teachers facilitate learning and constantly
nurture every learner.
 Administrators and staff, as stewards of the
institution, ensure an enabling and
supportive environment for effective
learning to happen.
 Family, community, and other
stakeholders are actively engaged and

C. After reading the school’s vision, mission and goals, I realized that:

There is a great impact of quality education in the development of

every student and this will become possible through the help of effective
teachers who will shape students’ mind and transform students’ deviant behavior, to
make students the best individual and contributor of sustainable
development of the country. I realized also that as a teacher, you should also
help students to have morally upright values because this contributes to the
advancement of every learner.

D. I need to internalize and integrate these in my lesson by:

Strive more so that I can contribute to the attainment of the Vision,
Mission, Goals, and Objectives (VMGO) of my cooperating school and to
the sustainable development of the country. I need also to practice,
cooperate, and discover trending notions and ideas about teaching so that I
will exemplify the quality of an effective teacher.

My Reflection / My Insights
How would you feel about your second home?

My second home is the home for improvement, wherein I could able to acquire
some of the skills which I could use in my profession-- to cure the deadly
malady of ignorance in the contemporary world. It was tear-jerking to see the
scenario in public schools, the life of every Filipino who struggle for
education, who struggle for their dreams and who struggle for their
own visions in life. These struggles reflect to you as a pre-service teacher,
and these propel you how to help them in their needs. As it was said, life in
public schools mirrors the life of the majority of Filipinos. Because in this
institutions you see students who need to work every weekend just to
have allowance for their schooldays. You see parents who sell delicacies
outside the school for their kids studying hard inside. You witness tears and
joys. This is the life which I also want to experience—to see the students
who will never give up for their dreams. For the better tomorrow and to
uplift their life someday.

My Analysis

Why do we need to know the various types of learners?

Every learner is unique individual, the way they study, talk,

listen, read are different. The diversity of learner act as a gap in
learning but also helps learner to become interactive.

It is very important to know the various types of learners

because as a teacher they are, the student is our subject, and we need
to find out there strength and weakness. Knowing their strength to
help them more develop and know their weakness to help them turn it
into strength.

Diversity of learner creates the room interactive because of

various experiences and backgrounds.
My Reflection / My Insights

As a teacher, how will you respond to the needs of your diverse learners?

I have handled already students, I observe that there is student diversity in the
class but I do regard my weaker students as having priority of attention, focusing to
them just to have an improvement by themselves. Giving my personal time to talk for
them not to say that they are weak but I will tell the points for improvement in a way
of learning but I expect my students to take responsibility for their own learning,
discovering by them. I believe it is my professional duty and also a responsibility to
do all the best that I can help to them for succeeding learning, but I do not expect to
spoon-feed the learners. I will set activities that will respond to their level of their
competencies. One of the biggest challenges that teachers face is to find ways to
succeed with different types of learners, not just those with whom they have a natural
affinity.

In order to meet this challenge, one may follow the below mentioned principles:

Principle #1 – Know Yourself and Your Teaching Style

As teachers, we need to have an awareness of who we are, what we value and

our natural “default preferences.” It is recommended to begin with a process of self-
reflection.2 As we learn more about our own tendencies, how they may have limited
us in the past, and come to understand the needs of our students, especially those who
are different from us, we naturally discover more tools to meet the challenges of
teaching.

Principle #2 – Understand Your Student’s Learning Styles

Gain an understanding of each of your students’ learning styles and needs and
promote a community of learners, respectful of one another’s strengths and
differences.

Principle #3 – Supportive Strategies

Using teaching methodologies and strategies that promote the maximum

degree of success for students of all types/styles means we must have well established
pedagogical tools that are effective across learning styles.

The simplest way to ensure a group of students with diverse learning styles
succeeds is to incorporate pedagogical practices that promote cross-type success, and
Principle #4 – Teach Across Type

Be mindful and respectful of the needs of students on the other side of each
learning style dimension by understanding both sides and offering strategies that meet
the needs of students who work out of opposing preferences. As we become more
knowledgeable of our own preferences, it is common to discover that it has been
easier to teach in ways that have worked better for the students on our same side of
each of the four dimensional fences.

Principle #5 – Students Work to their Strengths

Providing opportunities for students to work in their strengths areas for some
part of the overall learning experience enables us to best reach all learners.

Episode 5 Establishing Classroom
Routines and Procedures

My Learning Episode Overview

This episode enables me to observe the different classroom routines

performed by my cooperating teacher. Getting acquainted with these routines will
ensure a very organized, systematic and orderly classroom.

My Targets (Learning Outcomes)

At the end of this activity, I will be able to:

 Meet my cooperating teacher.
 Reflect on the expectations of my cooperating teacher.
 Observe and record important notes during the discussion with my
cooperating teacher.
 Interact with my cooperating teacher.
 Give assistance to my cooperating teacher.

My Big Ideas (Learning Essentials)

Routines

These are the backbone of daily classroom life. They facilitate teaching and
learning. Routines do not just make your life easier, they save valuable classroom
time. What’s more important is efficient routines make it easier for students to learn
and achieve more. When routines and procedures are carefully taught, modelled and
established in the classroom, children know what is expected of them and how to do
certain things on their own. Having these predictable patterns in place allows
teachers to spend more time in meaningful instruction.

Classroom routines and procedures:

Establishing clear classroom routines and procedures is necessary for ensuring that
your classroom runs smoothly.

BY DENISE YOUNG

Students need to know what is expected of them in your classroom. To ensure

that you have smooth transitions throughout the day, think carefully about the
routines for which you must plan. Clarify them in your mind. It may be helpful to
make a list of transitional times throughout the day (see the list below to help you
get started!). Other teachers or your mentor can serve as resources by sharing their
own classroom procedures and routines.
Before establishing specific procedures or routines, it is necessary to have a
discussion with students about their importance. During this discussion, you should
be able to talk about the rationale behind various routines. When possible, invite
students to create procedures with you. This process can nurture a sense of
ownership and community in your classroom.

In establishing procedures or routines, it is important to:

 Ensure that students understand the reason for the routine.

 Clarify the procedure through modeling.
 Allow students opportunities to practice the routine through rehearsal.
 Try not to overwhelm students by teaching too many routines at once. The
process of establishing routines and procedures may take several days.
 Remember that it will probably be necessary to revisit this process as you see
the need.

The following list may help you get started in thinking about times during
the day for which you may want to establish procedures and routines:

 Beginning the day

 Entering and exiting the classroom
 Labeling papers
 Collection and distribution of papers
 Signaling for quiet and attention
 Appropriate times for moving around the room
 Emergency drills and procedures
 Going to the restroom
 Moving throughout the school
 Late arrival
 Grading and homework policies (including make-up work)
 Asking questions
 Finishing an assignment early
 Dismissal

My Analysis
Establishing classroom routines is important because:

 It helps me to be organized in class. It sets the harmony inside the classroom.

It helps the students as well as the teacher in understanding and delivering
the topics.
 It enables the teachers to sustain a good classroom management.
 It enables the learners to predict what will happen to the next day and he will
able to prepare for it.
 It enables the learner to establish a habit every time he arrives at the school.
 It establishes harmonic rapport between the student and teachers.
 It establishes a feeling of responsibility to the students

My Reflection / My Insights
If I already have my own class, I want to do the following;
Arriving in the morning

I will always warm the students with a smile. I always prefer to the
cleanliness inside and out of the classroom.

Taking the attendance

Always monitoring the class attendance to ensure the presence of the

students.

Posting of reminders

Always remind them of the class instructions and reminders so that

they will not forget it, or else I will right it visibly and put in the place that
they can easily read it as they pass by the classroom.

Throughout the day

I will ensure that they will day will be meaningful, they learned a lot
form that day, and there are no questions that are not answered.

Ending the day

I will end the day full of joy, smile and prayer, giving thanks to
Almighty God in giving strengths, fresh mind of everyone of us in taking the
challenges every day.

Episode 6 the First Step
(My First Activity)

My Learning Episode Overview

This learning episode unravels the first activity given to me by my

cooperating teacher. This gives a clear picture of the steps I have followed and the
materials I need to prepare to successfully implement my first activity.

My Targets (Learning Outcomes)

At the end of this activity, I will be able to

 Plan my first activity / episode assigned to me
 Prepared my instructional materials
 Perform my first activity well
 Follow the instruction given by my cooperating teacher
 Consider and reflect on the assessment of my cooperating teacher.

My Big Ideas (Learning Essentials)

To prepare for the first episode / activity, remember the Plan, Do, Check, Act
(PDCA), a project management tool designed by W. Edwards Deming. It is also
called the Deming Cycle.

their performance.

I learn how to assess the students if they gained learning from the

activities.

Students learn best if they are engaged in various activities.

My Reflection / My Insights
Rate your accomplishments using the continuum:
5- Outstanding
4- Very Satisfactory
3- Satisfactory
2- Fair
1- Needs Improvement

I rated myself as very satisfactory because my students were able get the concept of
my lesson. They meet the objectives on the given activity. This truly justifies they
truly understand the lesson and I am able to adjust in their own learning style and
interest. I learned that every learner had their own learning style.

subject matter.

My Analysis
My thoughts on writing my first lesson plan

After writing my first lesson plan, I realized that it should be Specific,

Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Time-bound or SMART. One thing more into
this age of globalization where everything steps up into a higher level, we should
adapt into these changes, we should make our lesson plan student- centered so that
we can engage our students more in the teaching-learning process. The more they
are involved the greater the probability of higher learning and the longer it will
retain.

In making lesson plan it is important because this serves as a guide towards

targeting your goals. It is a roadmap intended for achieving the lessons objectives.
My Reflection / My Insights

As a Teacher, I Need to Prepare a Lesson Plan so that the lesson which are given to the
students have proper directions. As a teacher, I need to prepare a lesson plan so that the
students will feel that the lesson that are given to them were in proper sequence. It also
gives me the confidence to discuss the topic since doing lesson plan is studying your
lesson in advance. Having lesson plan impel you to predict when you will able to finish
the whole unit of your lessons.

As it is said, “fail to plan is plan to fail”. Failing to have a lesson plan is planning to fail
to deliver the lesson well.

My Analysis
In preparing my instructional materials, I need to consider
the following factors:
Instructional materials are effective to promote learning.

Instructional materials must stir the attention of the learners

Instructional materials must be easy to understand. Concepts must be

simple but informative
My Reflection / My Insights
In preparing my instructional materials, I realized that:
As a Teacher, I am aware that my students are unique individuals and there are
important factors to be considered in constructing an effective instructional material.
Here are the factors; diverse user interests, abilities, backgrounds, cultures, languages,
and maturity levels. Materials intended for student use should be appropriate for the
subject area and for the age, social development, ability levels, special needs, and
learning styles of students served by the collection. The Materials to be selected.
Should support, enrich and extend the school’s curriculum. And to encourage
informational, educational and recreational reading, viewing and/or listening.
