Welcome to my portfolio. I am Dave Anton H. Borja, a student of

Saint Paul University Surigao, under the program of Bachelor of
Elementary Education.

Being a teacher is never easy. It’s like throwing an egg against a rock
but if we learn to have patience and love the way how we impart knowledge
to children then effective teaching-learning process comes naturally. To
become a teacher was my mother’s choice; I took the program because
she wants to, since my mother is a teacher also. At first, I really find it
difficult on how to apply the theories I learned in education. Series of
observation were made and I took note the important concepts and
strategies of the teachers during my Field Studies. Gradually I learn to
appreciate the relevance of teaching, its role in the society and its role in
molding the young minds for the future. I believe I enrolled this course for a
reason. Maybe my mother saw something in me, that’s why she pushed me
to register in this program. For years I’ve been with the children and I saw
the importance of guidance and love for them.

I told myself “I got this “this is my path and I will do my very best to
help my country, my society and my children to become a cultured person.
My off-campus experience helps me realize that teacher needs patience,
time, care and love to give the desired outcome for the learners. I will strive
harder to meet the demands of the society and to give the very best for the
learners. Hopefully in Gods perfect time I will become one of the society
builders of young minds of the future.

The Teaching Profession

It can be debatable whether there is a woman behind every

successful man, but it is undeniable that there are some great teachers
behind successful men and women.

Considered to be more than a profession, teachers are regarded as

the strongest pillar of the society. Teaching is a profession that is the
mother of all other occupations. Teachers are the ones who build the
society by molding the young minds of the country into visionaries of the
nation. Teachers are one the most overworked professionals with
underrated salary but it does not burden the will of the teachers to gather
new learnings and share it to the learners. This makes teaching noblest of
all profession. They are so selfless in doing their job, they are willing to
sacrifice for the sake of the learners. Working more than 8 hours a day and
sometimes they do their work at home due to overwhelming paper works
still they find ways to work effectively in the classroom. Their passion to
provide the needs of the learners, their patience stretched to the limit but
still able to divert into something productive and their love for the children is
exemptional.

A good teacher is one who give their students roots and wings, roots
to know where home is, wings to fly away and exercise what is being
taught to them. The duty of the teacher is to shape the future of the child.
Shaping learner’s future depends on the ability of the teachers that is why
teaching profession is one of hardest occupation in the society. A great
teacher not just give information to children but also learns from the
learners. Teacher and learner must help each other in developing oneself.

I believe the success of the nation lies on the hand of the teachers in
the same manner teachers should consider that he/she may learn also
from their children. Teaching-learning is both for the teacher and learner
giving their best to learn and aid each other for the good of the society.
My Teaching Philosophy

Education is the process of facilitating learning, or the acquisition of

knowledge, skills, values, beliefs, and habits. Educators basically are the
people who will provide all the needs and opportunities the pupils to learn,
grow and to be mature.

When we teach there are a lot of factors we need to consider. Factors

that play vital role in shaping learners’ life like environment, genes, and the
society where he/she is involve in. Considering these factors will help
teachers to come up with an effective strategy to develop each learner’s
ability and will enhance their cognitive skills. As a future teacher I believe
guidance is the best thing teacher must do towards learners. We should
guide them to the right path, let them explore things and let the learners
interpret his/her surroundings. Let us guide them to see the bright side of
their lives. Let us guide and help them appreciate the gifts that we have
from above.

I believe teaching our children the norms and helping them realized
the significance of good values will eventually bring them to the right
direction.

Say for instance during my practice teaching I have a pupil who is

always absent in the class and don’t mind if he fails or not. One time, I had
a chance to have a conversation with him and I found out that he was a
member of a gang called OKP a junior recruit of AKP and he is the master
of such group. I was troubled and at the same time amazed of what I’ve
heard. I can’t imagine his young age having been given such responsibility
to become a leader. The main point here is if that child will be guided by his
elders, no doubt he will become a good stateman in the future. I think of
this as a challenge for me as a future mentor to do my best to connect to
the learners to see their strength and help them become a substantial
individual in the society.

From what was once a swampy area covered with sturdy and shady
mangrove and nipa in the western part of the municipality of Surigao, it is to
be a refuge of the couple Kang Ibang and Ate where the famous
“Cambangate” was derived from Clemento V. Diez Memorial Elementary
Central School emerge as a victor in the achievement for the academy
endeavor, moral standing, and physical development of the children.

It started several years ago with two classrooms of cambangate

Primary school under the Surigao West Central Elementary School located
at the Southeastern portion of the Municipality of Surigao (now the most
admired Luneta). it was first established to cater to the basic educational
need of the children. Consequently, due to the eventual rise of the
population of the school pupils, Cambangate Primary School became
Cambangate Elementary School with six teachers and one head teacher
and is strategically to all children of now Barangay Washington.

A blissful event came when the Municipality of Surigao became a

Component City of Surigao Del Norte. The city councel, then headed by the
City Mayor Pedro Espina passed a resolution urging the top officials of the
Department of Education and Culture to official change the obsolete name

As a central school with more than twenty teachers, a full pledge

Elementary School continues to grow both in pupil and teacher’s population
and more buildings were built to accommodate the growing population.

Two decades ago, this School did not have a stage and school
canteen. It did not have individual toilet in the classrooms and did not have
a two-story building. Indeed, there’s a vast sea of difference between the
School today compared to that of thirty years ago.
