WORKPLACE RIGHTS
AND RESPONSIBILITIES
RIGHTS
- are the rules that protect people's
freedom and dignity in a society, based
on legal, social, or ethical principles.

- that is, rights are the fundamental


normative rules about what is allowed of
people or owed to people according to
some legal system, social convention, or
ethical theory.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- refer to the tasks and duties of a
particular role or job description.

- Employees are held accountable for


completing several tasks in the
workplace. The clearer their supervisor
outlines the tasks, the better employees
can achieve their team’s goals and
succeed in their roles at the company.
Responsibilities at the
Workplace
 Do not participate in hazing or improper
practical joking.
 Do not use offensive or profane language.
 Do not use demeaning or abusive language.
 If you witness inappropriate conduct, bring it to
the attention of a supervisor or manager or
contact the EEO Officer or your Region EEO
Manager.
 If your co-worker tells you that your conduct is
offensive, STOP the behavior.
Responsibilities at the
Workplace

By law, your employer is responsible


for making sure:
 your work environment is safe and
providing appropriate protective
equipment if necessary
 workers are free from discrimination and
bullying
 you receive all your entitlements in terms
of pay and conditions.

As a worker, you are responsible for:
 understanding the conditions of your
employment. This includes knowing your
rate of pay, working hours and entitlements
to breaks and leave
 working in a way that is not harmful to the
health and safety of yourself or others
 knowing what to do if you think your
employer is not meeting their
responsibilities.
Responsibilities at the
Workplace
As Apprentice or Trainee, you are expected to
perform:
 Attend work, do the job and follow the
employer's lawful instructions.
 Work towards achieving the qualification or
statement of attainment stated in the
training contract.
 Participate in negotiating the training plan
for the apprenticeship or traineeship.

Responsibilities at the
Workplace
 Obey all workplace health and safety
(including dress and equipment) and
code of conduct workplace rules.
 Undertake the training and assessment
required under the training plan.
 Keep the training record and produce it
to the employer, training organization
and/or the Department of Education and
Training when requested.
Responsibilities at the
Workplace

 Do not terminate the apprenticeship


or traineeship before completion
unless the apprentice or trainee and
their employer mutually agree to
cancel the training contract and
notify the provider or the department
accordingly and in writing.

 Ifit appears all required training


and assessment will not be
completed before the nominal
completion date, talk to the
employer and training organization
about applying to extend the training
contract.
