NearPod Application! (Time to climb)

The learners will be asked about the past lesson

that has been discussed. The learner will go to
the NearPod Site and use the given class code
to the class. The selected groups will answer the
question within the given time. The questions
are about light and the properties of light.

The Teacher will show the illustrations that

represent the different properties of light.
-Rectilinear Propagation
-Reflection of Light
-Refraction of Light
-Interference of Light
-Diffraction of Light

(The group who got the highest points will

receive a reward)
C. Motivation (5mns)
NearPod Application! (Matching Pairs: Idea
Construction)
The learners will be grouped into five (5) for the
collaborative activity. Every group will enroll in the
NearPod site in which the students will collaborate
with all members to complete the details of
Electromagnetic Spectrum. They will match the
word with its definition.

2
1. Analysis (5mns)

Selected groups will present their work and will

answer questions about their activity.

(HOTS Questions)
a) How can you find our activity?
b) What do you think is the connection of our
activity to our lesson?

DEVELOPMENT 1. Introduction

The learners will do the walkthrough of the lesson

expectations.

In this part, the content of the lesson will be

presented.

Learning objectives will also be introduced to guide

the learners on the learning targets founded on KSA
principles.

1. Identify the photon which is emitted by light

rays,
2. classify and differentiate the
electromagnetic waves within the spectrum,
specifically the visible spectrum of colors,
3. determine the practical applications of light,
4. and reflect the importance of visible light in
our daily living.

2. Discussion thru Discovery Approach

(15mns)
Additive Color Mixing!

The learners will be grouped into five groups for the

collaborative activity. Students are requested to
bring their own crayons/ watercolors which will be
used in the activity.
(If possible, students will use some laboratory
apparatuses to heat and melt the crayons.

The students will combine the different colors from

the given Primary Colors (BLUE, GREEN, RED)

The students will come up with different colors after

they combine the primary colors.

3
2. Analysis (5mns)

Every group will present their works in front and

explain what they have produced.

(HOTS Questions)
a) How can you find our activity?
b) Why do we observe different colors?
c) What do you think is the essence of our
activity for our lesson?
d) How would you express your thoughts from
the activity you have done?

A wave is a change (a variation) that travels through

a substance (or medium). You can often see
changes, such as the increased height of a traveling
ocean, but what is important to understand is that
the medium itself does not travel with the waves.

Light is a longitudinal wave when direction of energy

and particle is concerned and an example of an
electromagnetic wave since its particle vibration is
perpendicular to the direction of wave propagation
and its ability to transmit energy without any
medium.

As quanta of light, photons are the smallest possible

packets of electromagnetic energy.

A photon is a particle of light which essentially is a

packet of electromagnetic radiation. The energy of
the photon depends on its frequency.

4
Practical Application of Photon Theory
Why is red light commonly used in dark rooms?
As you can see in figure below, Red light is the region
of visible light with the longest wavelength (620-780
nm) and with lowest frequency; hence has the lowest
energy. Because of its low energy, red light is
considered as “safe light” and ideally used in
photographic dark rooms. This is because
photosensitive materials used in printing are not
photosensitive to red and does not cause “fogging”
in prints which can be seen as blur or dark veil across
the print.

Why do people easily get sunburned by ultraviolet (UV) light

but not by visible light?
Ultraviolet (UV) light has shorter wavelength and
higher frequency and shorter wavelength than visible
light as shown in the figure 3. Since it has high
frequency, we can expect that it also has high
energy. Therefore, exposure to UV light can cause
sunburn or even skin cancer (prolonged exposure)
faster than exposure to visible light.
5
How do human eyes perceive colors?
The human eye can perceive colors because of its
cones cells. There are three different cone cells
present in the retina of our eyes, each contains
photosensitive pigment to certain wavelength. The L
cone is photosensitive to red (long wavelength), the
M cone is photosensitive to green (middle
wavelength) and the S cone is photosensitive to blue
(short wavelength). However, the sensitivity ranges of
the three cones sometimes overlap specially when
the light that stimulates them are near the middle of
the visible light. Refer to figure 4 for the cone
sensitivity curve.

ENGAGEMENT 1. Group Activity

The learners will be grouped into four for the

collaborative activity. Every group will be given a
group task in which the students will collaborate with
all members to finish the task.

The students will answer the given a worksheet with

a set of questions.

6
2. Processing of Work

a) How were you able to differentiate the

electromagnetic waves?
b) Explain and elaborate your answer in front of
your classmates.

ASSIMILATION 1. Generalization

The learners will be asked what they have learned

from the lesson/discussion.

The set of questions will be posted at the bottom of

the students’ armchairs and those who sit there will
answer the given question.

a) What is a photon?
b) What are the different electromagnetic
waves in the spectrum?
c) Why is it UVR causes Skin burn?
d) How human eyes perceived colors?
e) Why is it important for us to know and
understand the visible light? What is its benefits
to us?

2. Application

Using your laptop, go to the link provided by teacher

then provide the different equipment/machines that
produces or uses different electromagnetic waves.

a) You will showcase your work to the class.

b) Considered as Performance Task

3. Formative Assessment

The learners will answer the given questions.
