2018 was an awesome year for PlayStation 4 (PS4) gamers. Top game developers have released several exciting titles that made us stay on our couch for much longer periods of time :-)

So let’s get started. I made here a list of my favorite PS4 games last year.  Do please note that my choices of games are mostly action, simulation, survival, sci-fi, fantasy, first-person shooter (FPS) shooter, and role playing games (RPG). These games only made it through the top ten list because of their cool realistic graphics, amazing storyline, and of course their highly engaging gameplay.

So now, here are my top ten PS4 games of 2018:

10. Kingdom Come: Deliverance

Made by Warhorse Studios, Kingdom Come: Deliverance is a single player, open world action role playing game set in the Medieval Kingdom of Bohemia in 1403. Although this game barely made it to the top ten, it is an awesome game with a fantastic storyline. This game takes place during a war in Bohemia where you will be playing as Henry, a common blacksmith’s son who lived a very normal life until the Cuman mercenaries (the game’s main enemy) attacked and destroyed his village and killed (almost) everyone he knows and loves. Luckily, Henry escapes and soon joins Sir Radzig Koblya who leads a resistance movement against the Cumans.

The Game has a pretty long main storyline with lots of side quests and amazing characters for you to discover. Its combat mechanics are a little bit hard to master and its realism is a bit high because the armor can offer a lot of protection. The swords and gear can break and get dirty and with the armor offering heavyweight protection, you really need to search for weak spots in order to defeat your enemy. It also gets very frustrating when your shiny plate armor gets bloody and dirty after a long journey or a fight because you have to clean it frequently. But still the gameplay is enjoyable and and above all, it does not need Internet connection to be played.

9. Jurassic World Evolution

This is a Business Simulation game created by Frontier that lets you create your own Jurassic Park. It is a very nice simulation game that takes place on the six islands based on the movie Jurassic Park. It is a fun game because you can observe your dinosaurs roam around your park. You also get to take care of your dinosaurs by feeding them and giving them a perfect home with lots of buddies, and another exciting feature is, you can create your very own dinosaur arena and watch your dinos fight or might I say rip each other to pieces.

The game also features main missions, side missions, and of course your very own sandbox, so that you can create the perfect park with unlimited cash and without your dinos attempting to break out. The only thing that is quite disappointing about this game is the short dino lifespan, but of course in the sandbox mode you can let your dinos live forever perhaps even longer than you. Thus, overall this game is very entertaining especially to those who are a fan of dinosaurs, But Dino fan or not, this game is definitely worth a try and it does not need Internet connection to be played.

8. Monster Hunter World

Developer by Capcom, this game is the newest installment in the Monster Hunter series. In this game you can create your own custom character and you are tasked to track down, kill, or capture any monster you see. The plot of the main story of the game is that you are one of the hunters of the new world. You are sent to hunt and capture monsters for your colony. Although some of the old monsters are returning to the game, there are a lot of new monsters, some even bigger and scarier than the old ones. The game also features a lot of new weapons for your hunter such as swords, spears, bows, and even guns, along with a lot of very customizable armor pieces so that you can kill monsters in style. Overall, the gameplay is surprisingly fun and worth your dime. You can play this alone or with friends for more fun and they’ll definitely be amused. This game does not need  Internet connection to be played.

7. Far Cry 5

Created by Ubisoft, Far Cry 5 is an open world FPS game that sets place in Hope County. The main story lets you start as a deputy trying to stop a cult from taking over hope county. After a failed attempt, you are saved by freedom fighters and you join them in the fight against the cult. In Far Cry 5 you can create your own character and equip him or her with various weapons, vehicles, and customizations, and you can also bring in guns for hire in the fight against the cult. This game also features a map creator so you can create your own levels and even play with your friends.

You can play Far Cry 5 in singleplayer or multiplayer mode and it does not need Internet connection to start. This game is really entertaining and gut-busting, but I think that the main story goes a bit too fast. And although this game is single player and does not need Internet connection to play, but you can connect online and look for challenges or online players to make the game even more exciting.

God of War

6. God of War (2018)

God of War is an action adventure game that is developed by Santa Monica Studios. The latest game is the eighth installment of the God of War series, and it continues the story of Kratos years after he killed his father Zeus and destroyed all of the Greek World. In God of War you play as Kratos who is now in Norse Mythology, and his son Atreus. In the main story Kratos and Atreus will journey throughout the nine realms to fulfill their promise to Kratos’ second wife and Atreus’ mother to spread her ashes in the highest peak in the nine realms.

The latest God of War has a fantastic and highly moving storyline. Most of the characters are fun to interact with, and the game features lots of enemies, jaw-dropping boss fights, and a variety of enjoyable characters. The graphics of this game is really cool and realistic, and the monsters look awesome, so it is definitely worth checking out. God of War is a single-player game and does not need Internet connection to play.

Soulcalibur VI

5. Soulcalibur VI

Soulcaliber VI is a Fighting Game Produced by Bandai Namco Entertainment. In this game you can play with more than 20 existing characters to choose from or you can create your own custom characters. It also features a lot of cool weapons for your custom character and a lot of other customization options.

Soulcaliber VI is a very fun fighting game that features 2 campaign modes, soul story (the original story mode), and Libra of Souls (the story of your own custom character). The game’s fighting is very detailed and is highly realistic because your armor can break, you can roll if you are knocked down, and you can push your enemy off a cliff for an instant kill. The character’s fighting style is also diverse because each weapon has its own moves, special skills, and fighting style.

Overall, the game’s graphics is superb. Though there were times the capes clip with the armor, and the story mode isn’t the best out there, but it’s the fighting strategies that really made Soulcaliber VI an awesome game and worth it. Although this game is single player and does not need Internet connection to start, you can still play this on split screen in online multiplayer mode.

 4. Spider-Man

Created by Insomniac Games, Spider-Man is an awesome game based on the super hero Spider-Man. In this game you play as Peter Parker, or should I say Spider Man who spends his time swinging all over New York stopping crime wherever he goes. This game features most of Spider-Man’s enemies such as Kingpin, Shocker, Doctor Octopus and more. It also lets you craft a whole lot of cool gadgets and high tech suits to help you bring those bad guys down. It even has these cool skins — the Avengers Infinity War Iron Spider suit, Spider-Man Homecoming suit, and the Homecoming Stark suit.

In this game you will not only take down common street criminals but super powered minions as well. These super powered minions can either have dark demonic powers, high tech jet packs, rock hard skin, and more making the game very enjoyable than ever. You will also face many challenges, find cool collectables, and even visit the Avengers Tower. The game also has one of the best main stories, you will want to keep playing until the very end because it gets more exciting and you will even meet a lot of interesting characters along the way. The game also has side missions, challenges, and a whole lot of landmarks. Overall, Spider-Man is an awesome game and is definitely worth it. The game is single player and does not need Internet connection.

3. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey

This game is an open world action RPG game created by Ubisoft and is probably one of the best in the list. In this game you play as either Alexios or Kassandra and the story takes place in Greece during the Peloponnesian War, a war between Sparta and Athens. In the game, no matter what character you choose you start off as a common mercenary that wields the blade of Leonidas (who is your grandfather) the former king of Sparta and has a pet eagle named Icarus who looks out for enemies and helps you hunt for materials. Your main weapon is the blade of Leonidas that serves as your hidden weapon in the game (sadly there are no other hidden blades in this release compared to the previous) and gives you incredible powers such as bull rush, hero strike, and the good old Sparta kick.

In Assassin’s Creed Odyssey you are on the hunt for the people who destroyed your family, which is the cult of Kosmos (the main enemy) while at the same time trying to bring your family together again. The game has a nice main story and has a lot of interesting side quests all over Greece. It also offers your character a lot of weapons such as axe, swords, daggers, hammers, bows (but sadly no shield), and a lot of armor for your characters protection and style. It even has a few mounts to buy and unlock. In this game you also have your own boat where you can customize your crew members and add special lieutenants to improve ship power. Overall, the game is magnificent and is worth every penny.

Just Cause 4

2. Just Cause 4

Just Cause 4 is an open world action game created by Avalanche Studios and Square Enix. In my opinion, this game is probably one of the best games of 2018. In it you play as the badass former secret agent, Rico Rodriguez who (after killing Di Ravello and avenging his family) went to the fictional South American country known as Solis to search for his father’s secrets, only to find that his father left a weather machine capable of unlimited destruction. This game, like all other Just Cause games, features a lot of guns, vehicles, and a lot of destruction. It also offers a whole lot of tech, explosion, and awesomeness. Like for example you can have a gun that shoots drones and lasers or a boat that can make the enemy base rain with lighting. Just Cause 4 also lets you create an army of chaos that you can use to help yourself in the fight against the Black Hand, which are the game’s main enemies. Overall, the game has fantastic graphics, storyline and is highly engaging.

Red Dead Redemption 2

1. Red Dead Redemption 2

Red Dead Redemption 2 is my top favorite game of 2018 and it may be the best game I played since 2016. It was developed by Rockstar Studios and for me it is just perfect, a flawed masterpiece. I could play this game for a month and could not still get enough of it. In Red Dead Redemption 2 you play as Arthur Morgan, an outlaw in 1899 America who just escaped a place called Blackwater with his fellow gang members after a failed heist, and has a mission to make his gang rich again (after losing all their money in Blackwater) and to ensure that he and his gang survives with the law chasing them.

In terms of graphics, this game is just amazing and the realism is excellent that guns look like the real thing. The game also has some realistic survival elements because your character can get sick, hungry, tired, dirty, and even your hair can grow in this game which is so cool. You can also hunt 100 plus animals in the game for food.  The NPCs of this game also feels so alive and breathing you almost don’t want to kill them.  In addition, the environment details of the game are very realistic like the snow, the dirt, even the water.

In Red Dead Redemption 2, horse riding is probably the best means of transportation and the horses are very detailed that their sizes, speed, and faces differ. The horses are your most valuable companions and they can even kill some enemies if you are lucky. This game also offers your character a lot of outfits and guns to use, and you can even go bounty hunting or go rob a train if your money is low. In the game, you also have a special ability called deadeye that allows you to slow down the time and then you shoot the life out of multiple enemies like a pro.

Overall, Red Dead Redemption 2 is so close to perfection that it is my top pick for 2018. You just have to get your hands on it and for sure you’ll be hooked. Please note that even if the game is single player and does not require Internet connection to play, there is always an online mode if you want to play with friends.

Combat strategy games are an excellent amalgamation of two popular genres. This combination provides a well-paced yet addictive gaming experience that can keep you awake all night swiping and poking at your smartphone or tablet’s screen.

If you don't mind being a little addicted, then following is a list of some of the best combat strategy games out there for Android.

Clash of Clans

Clash of Clans is one of the most popular combat strategy games out there for your Android device. Completely free to play, this title involves building your village and then turning it into an undefeatable fortress. As you progress towards your goal, you can join hands with other players (or clans) and fight an epic clan war. There are 15 unique units that make up the game, all of them with multiple levels of upgrades. Your goal is to defend your clan at all cost using mortars, towers, bombers, traps, and walls. If you are lucky, you also get to fight the huge Goblin King from time to time. Overall, this is a fun and entertaining combat strategy game which you can either play alone or even with millions of other players from around the world.

Castle Clash

In this game you hire legions of powerful heroes and lead an army of mythical creatures in your goal to becoming the world's greatest Warlord. With a perfect blend of combat and strategy, Castle Clash has over 30 million users worldwide. The journey toward becoming the world's greatest warlord involves building your own impenetrable fortress, creating an army of wild troops, and then casting powerful spells in epic battles. Overall, it is a fun combat strategy game that takes this genre to the next level by adding the fantasy element to it.

Boom Beach

In this game you fight against the evil BlackGuard by taking your strong forces to a paradise island. This island is invaded by the BlackGuard and it is your job to free the enslaved islanders and then leave the uncharted island. What's more, this hidden island has lot of ancient undiscovered powers that come in handy later on in the game. What stand out in this game are probably the boss battles that help you uncover important clues about the story. Overall it is a fun, entertaining, and addictive combat strategy game.

Stars Conquer

If you are tired of the usual combat strategy games set on ground, then Stars Conquer will give you a somewhat unique experience. Set in space, Stars Conquer lets you build your own base and then turn it into an undefeatable fortress. Of course it is not that easy because you'll have to battle other players from time to time. Thankfully, there are weapons like cannons, MLRS, and missile that make it quite fun to shoot down intruders. Overall, if you are into games based in space, then expect this game to keep you hooked for hours to come.

Defense Command

This game has probably one of the most interesting premises in this list. At the start of the game, the planet is invaded by aliens. Then, the world's military gets enslaved by an Alien Mind Control Device. Yes, the whole world's military! Luckily, however, only one battle squad remains. You are responsible of controlling this battle squad and leading it to an insurmountable task of defeating the alien force and restoring peace and harmony on earth. With unique battle tactics and lots of weapons for combat, Defense Command can be a game that will keep you hooked for hours.

Battle Command

Set in a futuristic world, this title helps you get a taste of military warfare with lots of advanced weapons. With 20 different units to unlock, the game provides a lot of meat if you are into building bases and constructing a solid army that withstands the constant attacks of the enemy. Apart from building a strong base, this game also involves the ability to attack other players' bases thus making the game quite challenging especially in the cases when you get attack by someone new. To avoid that, you can make alliances with fellow players and thus build a stronger base. With both single player and multi-player, this game mixes elements of tower defense, combat, and strategy perfectly to give a great addictive gameplay.

Being a farmer in the bustling cityscape might not be the ideal dream for you. However, if you are still keen on doing that, you can do it anywhere. But wait, before you head out to your lawn and start planting seeds, relax and pull out your Android smartphone or tablet.

Yes, do that now because in this list, we are going to help you build not only your own farms but your own towns as well. Of course, these are just games, but you'll be surprised how hooked you'll be once you start playing them.

Green Farm

Imagine inheriting an old manor from your uncle. However, despite your really good luck, it isn't as good as you'd wanted it to be. Your mission in this game is to secure it, beautify, and grow a complete farm in front of the manor. Once you start building the farm, you'll come across many missions that involve full farming, harvesting, and even crafting. Of course, you'll have help from your friends and neighbors, but most of the time, you'll be on your own. The game works quite well on tablets as well as smartphones.

Farm Story

With over 150 varieties of fruits, flowers and vegetables, Farm Story is a game that lets you build beautiful farms in no time. You can design your own farm by decorating it with trees, fences, and buildings. Once you've designed your ideal farm, plant the crops so that they start growing. You can even invite neighbors to watch your crops grow, making this game even more fun. As with many titles in this genre, Farm Story is free to play but also offers paid in-game upgrades. Worth giving a shot if you love building farms.

Farm Town: Happy Day

This game is one where you get to do pure farming. You can grow variety of crops, hay, vegetables, fruits, and berries. Moreover, you get to help your neighbors build their own farms too. Quite possibly the most popular game in this genre, FarmVille is a title that started it all. Google Chromebook users sometimes have a hard time convincing Windows, Mac and Linux users why their laptop is a worthy purchase. This is because many people think that Chrome OS can't do much of the stuff the usual desktop OS can do. After all, it's just a browser in a laptop, right?

Well, not quite. Chrome has quietly evolved from a simple web-browser to a complete desktop powerhouse that has a plethora of applications to boast of. Also, many of these applications run offline. Well, but what about games then? Can Chromebooks handle gaming? Well, they are not as good as Windows if you want to run the latest Call of Duty title. However, they can offer some great fun with Chrome's little collection of classic games that even run offline.

That's why, for all the Chromies who are jealous of the Windows gamers, we are listing some of the best offline games out there.

Angry Birds

When it comes to mobile games, Angry Birds still remains a classic. While its huge popularity has waned over the years, the game still holds a top spot amongst gamers young and old. A part of its appeal lies in its easy-to-use control. Just pull back the slingshot, that's all you have to do. The rest seems easy, well, at first. Angry Birds is a game that progressively gets harder as you keep playing it. What's more, it gets even more addictive bringing out the perfectionist in you who wants to get the best score. If you are planning on having a productive week, good luck.

Entanglement

Entanglement is a popular puzzle game that has been around for quite a while now. What makes this game so special is its Zen-like ambiance that engages the player on a really deep level. The aim of Entanglement is to create the longest path possible by rotating and arranging a set of hexagonal tiles. You have to do all this without running into a wall thus adding a lot of challenge. Apart from letting you play on your own, Entanglement also has a multiplayer option wherein you can play against up to 5 people on the same computer in a hot-seat like variation. Even if you are not a big puzzle game fan, Entanglement is a title that definitely deserves a try.

Coconut Hunter

This game is ridiculously simple yet can get quite addictive as you keep playing it. All you have to do is slash coconuts across the screen simply by using the mouse. That's all, and yet, you would be hooked to this game for hours to come. Go ahead and give it a shot.

Feeding Om Nom on your smartphone? Now feed it on your desktop too. Bringing the same goodness of the mobile version, Cut the Rope for Chrome is a game that will keep you hooked for hours. No matter where you are, once you start this game, you'd probably not want to stop. Winner of BAFTA award, Pocket Gamer Award, and Apple Design Award, Cut the Rope is a must-have for all Chromies.

Offline Solitaire

If you are a Windows user who's recently moved to Chromebooks, Offline Solitaire will help you deal with the nostalgia that comes with missing out on Solitaire. The hot favorite of every Windows user, Solitaire is a game you can keep playing for hours together. What's even better is that it's available on almost every Windows computer thus serving as a sneaky little distraction in your workplace. With no ads, or connection requirements, Offline Solitaire for Chrome offers pretty much the same features that you'll find on Windows solitaire.

Web Quake

If you grew up in the late 90s, Quake was a phenomenon. The first-person shooter by id Software was a successor to the popular Doom series and since then the popularity of this game has spawned millions of loyal fans. With a dedicated offline version, Quake still lives on Chromebooks and Chrome browser. It is a must-have for all the old-school nerds who loved the 90's.

Steam's release followed by the announcement of Steam OS was an unexpected boon for the slow growth of gaming on Linux. Both the developments were major milestones when it comes to Linux's recognition as a commercially viable gaming platform. Be it Left 4 Dead or Portal, Linux is no longer the operating system for nerds. It has truly gone mainstream.

Steam is now on the Ubuntu Software Center and more and more games being added to the catalog every week. As good as it sounds, only a few AAA titles are being released on Linux. This means that if you are a Call of Duty, Assassins Creed, or a Battlefield lover, Linux isn't ready yet for turning your PC into a full-blown gaming machine. But don't worry; there are signs that this might change. In fact, there are some upcoming games that might actually make you excited about building a new Linux-based gaming rig. So, without much ado, here are 5 exciting games soon to be available for Linux:

Metro 2033: Metro

Last Light was probably one of the biggest titles to arrive on Linux. After all, it was a game with 80+ Metacritic rating, stunning graphics, and a highly engaging storyline. The prequel to the title, called Metro 2033, will also be available on Linux. Metro 2033 Redux is already listed for pre-order on Linux and will be available for purchase in Summer 2014.

The game is a survival-horror title based on a popular novel by Dmitry Glukhovsky. Developed by 4A games, the plot moves from the perspective of Artyom who has to survive in the post-apocalyptic metro stations of Moscow. The game heavily relies on darkness to make the gaming experience even more immersive. Moral choices at important plot points determine the endings of the game.

Total War: Rome II

Rome II is a strategy game that was the eighth title in the ever-popular Total War series. Released in 2013, this game has received heavy critical acclaim for its engaging battles and realistic graphics. With 76/100 score on Metacritic, Total War: Rome is probably one of the biggest titles to arrive on Linux. Whether or not the port will be good that's another question, but this game for sure might make the penguinland an exciting arena for game developers.



Unreal Tournament Series

Probably one of the most popular FPS games of all times, Unreal Tournament is known for its fast-paced action and competitive deathmatches. Developed by Epic Games, this title is probably one of the biggest games to come to Linux. According to recent reports, the next installment of Unreal Tournament will be free and will also be available on Linux. The popular title is an arena FPS with head-to-head multiplayer deathmatches being its typical specialty. There are five other type of matches you can play with your friends online or on a LAN network making this game dangerously addictive.



Age of Wonders 3

Age of Wonders 3 is an amazing turn-based strategy game that was recently released on Windows. Developed by Triumph Studios, this game involves the player taking up the role of a leader who sets out to explore the world interacting with other races and kingdoms in order to expand his empire. According to a recent discussion on Steam forums, the developers have hinted at a possible port of the title on Linux. While the possibility of this happening seems highly positive, a lot of waiting might be needed to actually get your hands on this title. 



Portal 2

While the game is still in beta, this is another big title that's coming to Linux. What's great about Portal 2 is that it is an evergreen game that just never refuses to grow old. For those living under a cave, Portal 2 is a puzzle-based strategy game that is a follow-up to the ever-popular title Portal. The game has superb pacing along with some hilarious dialogues that keep you engaged in an exciting gaming experience. Since being in beta, it won't take a lot of waiting till you get your hands on this one. For science!

When it comes to gaming, Linux has taken major steps forward. What once was a deserted island for gamers has now become a growing arena for both gaming fans as well as game developers. With each passing week, we see more and more gaming franchises debuting on this platform. Thanks to the massive investment of Steam in Linux, you can now have a full-fledged gaming experience without booting up your Windows installation.

That said, Linux was once, and still is, the ultimate playground for geeks. While many are busy fighting wars in the latest Call of Duty game, a true Linux fan can be seen having as much fun, if not more, playing an old-school command-line title. For the fans who lean towards the latter category, we have a list of some of the finest command-line games out there for Linux. If you are not a geek, though, don't worry. To get started, open the terminal by searching for it in the Dash or by using the combination (Ctrl + Alt + T) if you are using the Ubuntu desktop.

1. Worm

Ever had an old-school Nokia phone? I'm sure most of you have had one. If yes, then you might remember those good old days when you spent hours playing the legendary game Snake. What a game that was. With the growth of smartphones, sadly, those days are over. Now you have Temple Run, Angry Birds, Flappy Bird and many other titles. However, if you are a true Snake fan, you know nothing comes even close to that game. If we have made you mildly nostalgic, don't worry, because the first game in this list is the closest you'll get to playing Snake. Worm is a fantastic command-line game that will keep you hooked for hours. Just type in or paste the following command in your terminal to install the game:

sudo apt-get install bsdgames

2. Tetris
 
Oh! The beloved Tetris! One of the most popular games of the 80's and 90's was tetris. Those brick-sized video games were capable of keeping kids and adults hooked for hours. Released in 1984, this Russian tile-matching puzzle game has sold more than 170 million copies worldwide and ranks second in IGN's list of 100 Greatest Video Games of All Time. With this awesome game, you can't help but keep yourself addicted for hours. To install Tetris in your command-line, use the following command:

sudo apt-get install bsdgames

Then launch the game by typing the command "tetris" without the quotes and enjoy.

3. Space Invaders

Save the space from aliens in this ever-popular game. Released in 1978, Space Invaders was a phenomenon back then, and probably still is. The aim of this title is to defeat waves of aliens with a laser cannon to earn as many points as possible. To install the game on your computer, simply type in the following command:

sudo apt-get install ninvaders

Then launch the game by typing in "ninvaders" in your command line.

4. Backgammon

One of the oldest two-player board games out there, Backgammon has been played for as long as 5000 years. Unlike Chess, though, this game does rely on luck quite a lot. However, if you have the right strategy, you might win against the luckiest of opponents. Playing Backgammon in your terminal isn't as fancy as the real thing, but it still got all the features for you to enjoy a full-fledged competitive play.

To install Backgammon in your terminal, type in or paste the following command:

sudo apt-get install bsdgames

To open the game, you have to type "backgammon" without the quotes. 

5. Arithmetic

Last, but not the least, this simple math game will help you improve your brain function every time you take a break. Simply load up the game and try your best to remember everything you'd learned in math class. Go easy on yourself though, it's just a game. We all suffer from poor math skills every once in a while.

To install the game, type in or paste the following command:

sudo apt-get install bsdgames

Then type "arithmetic" without the quotes and enjoy.
