History
Early Life[]
Born in the mystical realm of K'un-Lun, home of the legendary Iron Fist, she was known as the "Dragon's Daughter", a being of draconic origin a member of the Dragons of K'un-Lun. Though her true nature was that of a dragon, through unrevealed circumstances she was cursed and transformed into human form. This transformation severed her from much of her innate power, leaving her to navigate the world of mortals with only fragments of her former essence.[1]
Relationship with the Wizard[]
Salamandra entered into a relationship with Wizard, approximately nineteen years prior to their encounter with the Fantastic Four. Though their union lacked romantic affection, both parties saw mutual benefit in aligning their respective ambitions. Not long after their marriage, Salamandra discovered she was pregnant despite the fact that the marriage had never been consummated. She realised that the Wizard had artificially inseminated her and used genetic manipulation in an attempt to create the "perfect" child. Horrified by this violation, she attempted to terminate the pregnancy. To preserve his experiment, the Wizard captured and sedated her until the child was born. When their daughter, Cole Wittman, was born without any apparent powers, the Wizard deemed her a failure and allowed Salamandra to leave with the child. He made no effort to contact or monitor them thereafter.[1] Over the years, Salamandra resumed a decadent lifestyle, using her beauty to seduce wealthy men and travel the world, largely abandoning Cole in the process. Cole, who only saw her mother once or twice a year, grew resentful of her absence.[2]
Frightful Four[]
Years later, Salamandra agreed to join the Wizard's latest incarnation of the Frightful Four in exchange for treasure. She brought Cole with her to New York City and gifted her a golden ring secretly a sophisticated piece of Wizard created technology that functioned as a surveillance device, teleportation beacon, and tracking unit. Unaware of its true purpose, Cole accepted the ring, though she was irritated when Salamandra teleported away immediately afterward.[2]
Salamandra returned to the Wizard's base, where she met her teammates Hydro-Man and Trapster for the first time. Despite finding them unimpressive, she later joined them in observing Cole's unwitting role in the Wizard's plan as she encountered Johnny Storm and the rest of the Fantastic Four. When Cole confided to Johnny that her mother was so indifferent that she wouldn't even miss her if she died, Salamandra showed no emotion, stating only that her daughter still had much to learn. The Frightful Four later teleported to the Baxter Building using Cole's ring. During the ensuing battle, Cole used her gravity-based powers to defend herself from the Wizard, prompting Salamandra to express pride in her daughter's strength. The Wizard, however, downplayed Salamandra's influence, claiming Cole's abilities were due to his own anti-gravity technology. As the confrontation continued, Salamandra engaged the Human Torch and revealed herself immune to flame. She then teleported behind Mister Fantastic and disabled him with a nerve pinch, giving the Wizard the opening he needed to defeat the team. However, when the Wizard refused to credit her for the victory, Salamandra abandoned him in anger. The Wizard then broadcast the Fantastic Four's defeat worldwide and teleported the team including Cole back to his base, hoping to make his daughter the new fourth member of the Frightful Four. His plan was interrupted by Salamandra, who returned and argued with him. Upon learning the truth of her origins, Cole fled in distress.[1]
Relationship with Hydro-Man[]
Despite initial indifference, Salamandra began developing romantic feelings for Hydro-Man. While the two were relaxing in a hot tub Hydro-Man in his liquid form a perimeter alarm alerted them to Cole's return. Salamandra teleported to the Wizard's control room and intercepted her daughter. Mistakenly believing Cole had brought the Fantastic Four with her, the Frightful Four prepared for battle, unaware the heroes had used Cole's signal ring to infiltrate the base. Salamandra launched an energy attack against the Human Torch but was restrained by the Invisible Woman's force field. Transforming into her draconic form, Salamandra resumed the attack but was ultimately subdued when Sue used a force field to affix one of the Wizard's Anti-Gravity Discs to her, incapacitating her despite her managing to snare the Thing with her tail. The conflict ended abruptly when Cole's powers overloaded and destroyed much of the base. Salamandra and the remaining Frightful Four members disappeared in the aftermath.[3]
Mad Thinkers Group[]
Later, Salamandra attended a gathering of supervillains hosted by the Mad Thinker. However, unimpressed by his schemes, she departed without further involvement.[4]Attributes
