 This paper consists of two sections A and B
 It has 6 examination items
 Section A has two compulsory items
 Section B has two parts I and II. Answer one item from each part
 Answers for section A must be written in the spaces provided while
the answers for section B must be written on the answer booklet
provided
 Any additional item answered will not be scored
 Use where necessary (Zn=65, C=12, O=16,1mole of a gas occupies 24
liters at room temperature)

Many countries have resorted to using nuclear power in order to meet their
energy demands for domestic and industrial purposes. But they need
guidance on the nuclear process that is convenient to use
Task
As a chemistry learner
(a) State the category of nuclear reactions that can be used
(b) Explain how the process works

(c) What are the dangers associated with the process


(d)advise on the process which is better use

Item 2
Ronald wants to harvest rain water from his house roof so as to reduce on his
water bills. he needs guidance on the materials to be used for the
reservoir(tank)
Task
As a chemistry learner
(a) Identify the possible categories of materials that Ronald can use

(b) Explain how suitable the material you have identified are and identify one
use of the material

(c) Zinc carbonate when heated decomposes to according to the following


equations
ZnCO3(s) ZnO (s) + CO2 (g)
Calculate the volume of the gaseous product formed at room temperature
when 12.5 g of zinc carbonate is heated strongly until no further change

(d) Advise Ronald on the side effects of using the materials and how to avoid them

the cost of soap since it is one of the raw materials but he requires an input from
someone with chemistry knowledge. you have been chosen to give guidance to
Frank regarding the process, side effects and benefits of the process to the
community

Nearly all motor vehicles in Uganda use acid batteries, an investor wants to setup a
factory manufacturing the acid that Ugandans need for their batteries however the
investor needs to document on the process. You have been identified as the one
who is qualified enough to provide the information
Task; As a chemistry learner with the chemistry knowledge, write a guide to the
investor

Item 5
John uses rocks on his land as a source of income. However, he doesn’t know the
composition of the rocks. He is also seeking advise on what could be the impact of
his activity and whether the rocks have any other benefits
Task; As a chemistry learner, address John’s concerns

Item 6
Moses the cattle keeper grazes his cattle on a community land. During the dry
season, he practices bush burning and also takes his cattle to drink water from the
community water source. Moses’ practices have raised concern in the community.
The area chairperson has organized a meeting to create awareness for moses and
the community
Task; As a learner of chemistry, make a write up on the message the chairperson
will present to the community
