INSTRUCTIONS
• Write only your name, date, type of exam (PRELIM EXAMS) & subject on the Top
Sheet of your Answer Sheet
• Open Notes
• Email Answer Sheets to [email protected]
• Deadline: April 24, 2022, 12:30PM
• Minus 3 points for every minute of late submittals
• Offline & Unsupervised Exams, hence, I am strict with time of submission
• Answer sheet is any piece of paper as long as your writings are legible for
checking
• Should there be a problem or lacking with the question, it shall be regarded as
bonus.
• No SPECIAL EXAMS will be entertained. Time is of luxury.
Problem 1 – SIGHT DISTANCE – 15 PTS
• Calculate SSD for V =50kmph for (a) two-way traffic in a two lane road
(b) two-way traffic in single lane road.
• Given:
V =50km/hr
f =0.37
t = 2.5 sec stopping distance = lag distance+braking distance
Problem 2 – SIGHT DISTANCE – 15 PTS
• Find minimum sight distance to avoid head-on collision of two cars
approaching at 90 kmph and 60 kmph. Given t=2.5sec, f=0.7 and
brake efficiency of 50 percent in either case. (Hint: brake efficiency
reduces the coefficient of friction by 50 percent).
• Given:
V1=90 Km/hr.
V2= 60 Km/hr.
t= 2.5sec.
Braking efficiency=50%.
f =.7.
Problem 3 – REVERSE CURVE– 10 PTS
• Two parallel tangents have directions due east and are 200m apart
are connected by a reversed curve having equal radius of 800m.
The P.C. of the curve is on the upper tangent while the P.T. is at the
lower tangent. If the horizontal distance parallel to the tangent from
the P.C. to the P.T. of the reversed curve id 800m.
Compute the distance of the intermediate tangent between curves
Problem 4 – REVERSE CURVE– 12 PTS
• The common tangent BC of a reversed curve is 600m long and has a
bearing of S 45° E AB is tangent of the first curve whose bearing is N
70° E and while CD is a tangent of the second curve whose bearing is
N 30° E.
A is the point of curvature while D is the point of tangency. If the
degree of the curvature at D is 4°, find the stationing of P.C. if P.R.C. is
at sta. 16+420.00
Problem 5 – REVERSE CURVE – 8 PTS
• The intermediate tangent of a reverse curve is 600m long. The
tangent of the reverse curve has a distance of 300m which are
parallel to each other. Determine the central angle of the reverse
curve if it has a common radius of 1000m.
Problem 6 – VERTICAL CURVE – 10 PTS
Problem 7 – VERTICAL CURVE – 15 PTS
• A -2.5% grade is connected to a +1.0% grade by means of a 180 m
vertical curve. The P.I. station is 100 + 00 and the P.I. elevation is
100.0 m above sea level. What are the station and elevation of the
lowest point on the vertical curve?
Problem 8 – VERTICAL CURVE – 15 PTS
• Determine the minimum length of a crest vertical curve between a
+0.5% grade and a -1.0% grade for a road with a 100-km/h design
speed. The vertical curve must provide 190-m stopping sight distance
and meet the California appearance criteria. Round up to the next
greatest 20 m interval.
GOODLUCK EVERYONE.
