It is now obvious that COVID-19 is changing the lifestyle of human beings around the
globe. This outbreak is going to affect our future; the challenge we are facing is trying to
understand how this will happen and get prepared for these changes. This environmental virus
is not the first of its kind, but it is certainly the first virus to go global at an incredible speed. This
virus made radical changes from one part of the world to the whole globe affecting its
healthcare, economy, education, and even beliefs with no distinction between developed and
developing countries. Schools’ shutdown did not only affect students, their teachers, and their
families, it also has extensive economic and societal consequences. Furthermore, it has shed
the light on various social and economic issues, including modular learning, digital learning, and
access Internet.
The Department of Education has a health program, the OPLAN KALUSUGAN (OK) which
is essentially a sequel and complement to the childcare and development programs. Increasing
numbers of countries have programs that ensure that children enter schools fit, well, and ready
to learn. But school-aged children continue to be at risk of ill health during their years of
schooling. Continuing good health at school age is essential if children are to sustain the
advantages of a healthy childhood and take full advantage of what may be their opportunity on
today's mode of learning.
In this regard, Santiago Delmo Memorial High School (SDMHS) launched its flagship
health program Oplan Kalusugan (OK) sa DepEd, as a convergence of its health program, plans,
policies, and activities on this time of COVID19 pandemic.
Being the highlight of the OK sa DepEd Program, the school is set to roll out a set of
health protocols to be followed during the distribution and retrieval of modules which started
last October 5, 2020, and Hygiene (WASH) in schools (WinS) program to help stop the spread of
COVID19.
Health screening occurs during the distribution and Retrieval of modules which happens
every Monday and Friday for parents, guardians, and staff in schools. Health and safety
guidelines include temperature checks, washing of hands, applying alcohol, and reporting
symptoms upon arrival, before entering the school ground.
