Exam Answers - Game 8
What are the functions, and how do you use it efficiently. You can base this around combat from a
game you are familiar with, such as Pokemon, Final Fantasy, etc, or you can just explain how the
mechanic tends to work in RPGs as a whole. Note: This must be 100% original writing. Any attempt
to plagiarize or paraphrase from another source will result in immediate disqualification.
ANSWER:
In turn-based combat, all or a number of the player’s party with other members as
reserve forces will be placed in a field where combat takes place. Instead of active combat, the
party members and the enemy AI takes turns on making a move depending on their speed stat or
any other stat depending on the game. Sometimes party members are the first to move while in
more active games the enemy AI may also interrupt or take the turn of another team member
depending on the stats that affect the flow of battle. Every turn the party member may choose to
USE SPECIAL, SWITCH reserve party member, ATTACK, USE ITEM, or FLEE as the basic choices in a
turn based setup although in more modern turn-based games the choices are more extensive.
Victory depends if the party wipes out all enemies included in the encounter or only the objective
enemy like a BOSS.
Nowadays, turn based combat has evolved into a more active form of gameplay.
Meaning, in some games the enemy AI may interrupt the player if the player is slow in choosing
the move he wants his party member to do. Players may also interrupt the enemy AI by using
Special attacks – This is mostly popularized by games like Final Fantasy, “Tales of” games and Sora
no Kiseki (Trails In the Sky) and its succeeding installments.

needed as well.
A walkthrough for the boss Mechadon from the game Monster Fighters 2. Tips and strategy about
how to beat Mechadon and Mechadon’s stats and other useful information.
Defeating Mechadon
“Mechadon” enters Self-Repair when it looses around 1,000 HP. You will then be able to escape.
After healing HP a little by little in Self-Repair, it will instantly heal all HP even if it’s HP reaches zero,
it is better to escape right away. Mechadon is weak to Lightning, so you can lower it’s HP quickly if
you prepare yourself with “Thunder” beforehand.
If you continue attacking it during Self-Repair and lower the HP to zero, it wil completely heal itself
immediately afterwards, but you can get 50 AP if you it escape after it reenters Self-Repair.
Additionally, if you lower its HP to zero four times after the second battle, it will not heal itself, and
will be possible to defeat it. You can get either a Star Amulet, a Fogger, a Power Glove, or an
Homing Beam plus in addition to 50 AP.
You will need to lower it’s large amount of HP in the time limit to defeat it. It’s best to prepare
“Thunder” attacks beforehand. I recommend using “Rush Down” and “Knuckle Sandwich” with
Luke’s special ability “Power “Fists for those without “Thunder”.
Keep Frederick HP low. Equip Blaze Kitten to Frederick and equip your strongest magic weapon to
Frederick to increase Dragon Fury’s damage. Heal Frederick when he about to die, then attack him
to bring his HP down again adn enable Dragon Fury.
ANSWER:
YOU CANNOT DEFEAT THE MECHADON IN YOUR FIRST ENCOUNTER – YOU MUST ESCAPE IT
Use lightning attacks, most specifically, Thunder in order to easily lower its HP. However,
during the first battle with Mechadon, the latter is invulnerable to finishing attacks that could
deplete its HP. Once its HP is down to 1000 or even if it reaches 0, it will enter into self repair.
During this time, do not waste your time in attacking it. Rather, you must escape before it finishes
self repairing and heals itself to full HP.
IT IS POSSIBLE TO DEFEAT MECHADON IN THE SECOND ENCOUNTER
During your second encounter with Mechadon you will notice the same scenario: It self-
heals during the 1000 HP threshold and heals completely if HP drops to zero. You may escape and
get a bonus 50 AP. However, you may defeat the Mechadon if you deplete its HP to 0 FOUR times.
After depleting its HP to 0 during the fourth time, the Mechadon will stop healing itself and will
eventually die if its HP is depleted within the time limit. Hence, it is best to prepare “Thunder”
attacks beforehand. If the party lacks a member who can use the Thunder element, “Rush Down”
and “Knuckle Sandwich” with Luke’s special ability “Power Fists” may also be used as an
alternative to defeat Mechadon. Defeating the Mechadon will not only give the bonus 50 AP but
shall also drop at least one of the following: Star Amulet, a Fogger, a Power Glove, or a Homing
Beam.
Another good alternative is to keep Frederick’s HP low. Frederick must have been
equipped with Blaze Kitten and also equipped with a strong magic weapon as it will dramatically
increase Dragon Fury’s damage. If Frederick is dangerously close to dying, heal him. Afterwards,
you may have a party member to attack him to lower his HP and activate Dragon Fury once again.
#3 Many players rely on tier lists to know which characters/weapons/skills, etc, are good in a game.
Pretend you are making a tier list for a game you are very familiar with (again, this can be for
characters, skills, weapons, or whatever is relevant to your game). Explain in-depth why whatever
character/skill,etc that is at the very top of the tier list is there using your own analysis. (You do not
need to actually make a tier list: just state what the game and tier list is, then explain whatever
holds the top spot on it, and why)
ANSWER:
This is a tier list example I formulated myself based on the MOBA game Arena of Valor and I did
not plagiarize it:
ARENA OF VALOR
S CLASS:
ALLAIN
ALLAIN is an agile swordsman that relies on attack speed items and buffs to increase his critical
output. Although his attack speed remains consistent, increasing the same will convert it into
critical chance.
CORE ITEMS:
Claves Sancti and Slikk’s Sting – Claves Sancti increases ALLAIN’s critical chance and damage while
Slikk’s Sting significantly increases his attack speed by 35% therefore increasing his critical chance
around the same percentage.
Why he is S class:
ALLAIN’s passive and Skill 1 helps him sustain a good brawl even when fighting 3 opponents at
once: His passive Howling Sword does not only increase his attack speed by 1% in every successful
combo, it also gives him the ability to inflict TRUE DAMAGE on his 7 th hit on the enemy.
ALLAIN’s 1st skill METEOR STRIKE provides not only AOE crowd control but also adds another
string of combo with TRUE DAMAGE after using the skill. He also becomes immune to control
effects while using the combo.
ALLAIN’s special skill DEATH AT SUNSET allows him to jump and lock on to an enemy making him
invulnerable and invisible in the battlefield for 2 seconds before returning and dealing
outstanding AOE damage on the target and surrounding enemies. This makes a great initiator or
chase skill and an indispensable skill during a clash. Follow it up with his dash skill if he is stuck
between enemy lines with no back up.
