Media and Information Literacy
Media and Information Literacy
EXERCISE 2
1. Did believe these news items were true? How did you know they were true/false?
2. Are all news and information in the internet true? Why or Why not?
We live in the digital age and are more exposed to the news than ever. We also have tools that
empower anyone to create and distribute news. So it is really important to discern between
authentic and fake news.
I believe that the first and third news items were true while the second news item is false. Because
based on their headlines, you could see that only two of them are fact news since they did appear on
news broadcast on television while the other one didn't appear on the news. Besides, for the reason
why I know that they are true/false news, it's because I've checked a couple of sites until I can be
pretty sure that the information is true/false. And I, therefore, conclude that if you want to, or need
to make sure that something is very accurate then you can reference various online sources until
you are sure of the facts.
All news and information on the internet are sometimes true and false because some people are
more likely to spread novel and surprising information, which favors the spread of falsity over the
truth. And Social media platforms allow almost anyone to publish their thoughts or share stories
with the world. The trouble is, most people don't check the source of the material that they view
online before they share it, which can lead to fake news spreading quickly or even "going viral."
However, any news found on a social networking website like Facebook, or from a dubious website
should always be verified before believing it to be true. In conclusion, fake news can disrupt society
and create social unrest, and even wars. So it is important for us to identify it and stop sending it to
others in our circle of trust. Because we may unknowingly be spreading fake news.

EXERCISE 4
How would you share information and communicate news and events?
I would share information and communicate news and events through gathering a mass of
people in a certain place and share with them the information or news that I have so that
the people who heard me will spread the news. And also, through asking permission to post
a poster for information dissemination.
EXERCISE 5
Dear Editor,
In this age of fake news, even the pursuit of truth is politicized, it is exciting to know that receiving
media and information literacy education is the top priority of many people.
Media literacy is the ability to understand mass communication and analyze its function and
content. It is becoming more and more important in understanding the democratic process. Politics
has caused more confusion in the mass media, making media literacy an important factor in
people's lives. Without media literacy, people's thinking is easily affected by the constant
manipulation of political information. They are more vulnerable to being manipulated and misled
from the truth. They are more likely to be manipulated and misled by facts. Therefore, people must
have media literacy in order to take their positions as citizens.
Another reason why citizens should have media literacy is to determine how the media does not
release all political news that needs to be listened to. Politicians usually pay for networks or media
persons to keep their scandals away from the people, or people in the media industry believe that
the news would be too hard for listeners/views on them. But in most cases, this is because
politicians don't want to gain a bad reputation, especially when they are chairman of the
government.
The facts need to be understood through research or some other way. But unfortunately, this is not
how our society works. People are busy with other things, so the only way they are told is a source
of information that can protect the reputation of politicians. The media know this fact, which is why
they only put information on one source from the beginning. Why media literacy is important, not
just to be a good citizen. Media literacy can prevent you from making yourself look like a fool. Since
the media is ubiquitous, it is now easy to be deceived by the mass media. It surrounds us. This is
why if everyone develops the skills to understand the functions of the media industry through
media and information literacy training, then it will produce significant changes.

ACTIVITY 1
Facebook 18 hours
Television 4 hours
Books 2 hours
Others 1 hour
1. Which media provider did you spent most of your time with? Why do you spend most of your
time with it?
-The media provider that I spent most of my time with was Youtube because YouTube has a wealth
of resources to help people advance their careers, prepare for new jobs, or grow their businesses.
And I value its ability to provide educational videos.
2. What roles do media play in your lives? (leisure, learning, communication, etc.)
- The media is a part of our lives and has a huge impact on our society. They inform, educate and
entertain people. They also affect the way people see the world and make them change their views.
The media is very important for education because it helps to cultivate critical awareness among
children and young people. Radio, television, and the internet offer us countless options for us to
choose the one we like the most.
Activity 2.
1. How will you be informed about what is happening around the world?
- I will be informed about what is happening around the world through people-to-people
conversation. We get informed through people we know. We can talk to them and ask for
information about what is happening around the world. Though it is not as informative and proud
as magazines, and newspapers but it certainly can give you ideas and information.
2. What ways will you do in terms of communication? (Communicating with your family, friends,
classmates, etc.)
- The ways that I will do in terms of communicating with my friends, families, and classmates was
through receiving and sending letters to a person in a specific region or country by transporting the
letter in a ship or mail.
3. How will you share information and communication?Like news and events?
- I will share information of news and events through gathering a mass of people in a certain place
and share with them the information or news that I have so that the people who heard me will
spread the news. And also, through asking permission to post a poster for information
dissemination.
- I will lose the ability to know what is right or wrong information because there is too much
information going around.
- It would affect in a way of changing my routine in a day wherein I have more time to bond witg my
family and friends as if we were back in the old days where all news is just within among neighbors
and neighboring time.
- I would personally miss the internet, and gadgets because we are living in a modern world. In this
modern world we totally depend on technology. So a world without technology seems very difficult
to imagine but it is not impossible. We mustn't forget that there was a time when people used to
live without technology. So I feel that I am neutral in this case, because there are positive and
negative aspects.
- I think society will lose its sanity. However, the only important thing here is the credebility of the
information we obtain. We will lose the ability to understand the true or false information because
there is too much information around. But we have a responsibility to understand and share the
truth.
Activity 3
1. Do you believe these news items are true? How did you know if it is true/false?
-I believe that the news items are false because based on their headlines, we could see that none of
them were fact news since they didn't appear on news broadcast on television and it is proved that
it is a fake news. Besides, for the reason why I know that they are false news, it's because I've

ACTIVITY 4
Reflection
Media is an important part of our life now, it is playing a very important role in every way of life. It
connects us with the scenarios in the world and informs us of many things like news, history,
entertainment, etc. Which helps us a lot in being an upgraded personality.
MARK ANGELO RILLO 12-DITA (TAILORING) QUARTER 3-MODULE 4
WHAT I CAN DO
1. Explain the statement of Marshall McLuhan that " The Medium is the Message"
- McLuhan defines the medium as "any extension of ourselves or our senses." Classically, he
suggested using a hammer to extend our arms and wheels to extend our legs and feet. Every
medium recognizes that we do more than our bodies should do. The medium of language expands
our thoughts from our miracles to others. Similarly, since our thoughts are the result of giving up
our character's sensory experience, we may also want to think of speech as a form of reverse
feeling. Generally speaking, our senses convey the world to our thoughts, and words take away the
thoughts shaped by our thoughts and senses to the world.
But McLuhan always thinks of the medium in the sense of a growing medium, so the medium is the
expansion of our body, senses, or thoughts, and anything that changes from it. And because
everything we conceive or create has undergone a certain change, all our inventions, innovations,
ideas, and ideals are McLuhan's media. Think of mobile smartphones as a medium for extending our
social connections, instant access to unlimited information, and our game consoles.
McLuhan moreover tells us that a “message” is, "the change of scale or pace or pattern" that a new
invention or innovation, i.e. a medium introduces into human affairs. Thus, the message of a
newscast is not the information stories themselves, but an exchange in the public attitude nearer to
a concern of the information or the introduction of a local weather of concern as a give-up result of
the news. A McLuhan message constantly tells us to exhibit up past the obvious and searching out
for the non-obvious changes or consequences that are enabled, enhanced, accelerated, or extended
with the aid of the use of the new thing.
Ultimately we have the means of “the medium is the message:” We can be conscious of the nature
and characteristics of something we conceive or create (the medium) utilizing the usage of gain of
the changes that give up result from it (the message). McLuhan warns us that we are often
distracted with the aid of the content of a medium, which blinds us to the persona of the medium
that is its have an effect on or its message.
This appreciation of “the medium is the message” specifically helpful due to the truth It tells us that
noticing alternate in our societal or cultural floor prerequisites suggests the presence of a new
message, that is, the consequences of a new medium. With this early warning, we can set out to
represent and choose out the new medium in the past than it turns into apparent to all of us — an
approach that regularly takes years or even decades.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
1. By changing the way people obtain information, the emergence of many new technologies has led
to the convergence of traditional media (newspapers, radio, books, magazines, and even television
to some extent) and new media (Internet). This merger reduces the need to read paper articles,
listen to the radio, or draw inspiration from books, and you can use it regardless of whether you
have WIFI Internet access. We can watch the news, listen to music, and watch movies on our mobile
phones. Therefore, what has happened is simply changing the number of sources and where
information is obtained from, and this is how the two media merge.
2. Media convergence has created various platforms for young people. Thanks to the media, people
can communicate with anyone around the world. People can expose their talents to everyone as
long as they are at home. The media saves a lot of time and travel costs because it is impossible to
communicate with anyone from anywhere in the world. Due to the media, online tutoring in any
subject can also be accepted.
MARK ANGELO RILLO 12-DITA (TAILORING) QUARTER 3-MODULE 5
1. These 4 types of media: (a) Print Media is a media consisting of paper and ink , reproduced
in a printing process that is traditionally mechanical. It is used to describe the traditional or
“old-fashioned” print-based media that todays parents grew up with, including newspapers,
magazines, books, and comics or graphic novels;
(b) Broadcast Media is a media such as radio and television that reach target audiences
using airwaves as the transmission medium;
(c) Film/movies which are the oldest form of motion picture technology capable of
capturing lifelike video-style images
(d) New Media means of mass communication using digital technologies such as the
interest.
2. By which, Media Convergence is existing of todays media platform across several fields
because of phenomenon involving the interconnection of information and communications
technologies, computer networks, and media content. It brings together the “three C's”—
computing, communication, and content—and is a direct consequence of the digitization of
media content and the popularization of the Internet. Media convergence transforms
established industries, services, and work practices and enables entirely new forms of
content to emerge.
3. The incorporation of media platforms has brought about the idea of mass media which
encompasses the countless array of institutions and individual who differ in purpose, scope,
method, and cultural context.
These is also based on the several Media Effect, Theories which are:
Third party Theory, Reciprocal Effect, Boomerang Effect, Cultivation Theory, and Agenda
Setting Theory.

1. The difference between talking to them over internet and in person is on internet it has a
negative effects like you have no time to bond with them because you are always facing on
your gadgets and sometimes you can't express your true feelings and you can't do what you
want to do like holding hands and hug them but there was a positive effect of talking to
them on internet like if they are far from you so you can talk to them. While If you are
talking to them in person there was a negative and positive effect also like if you want to
talk to them in person you need to be with them or you need to be near to them because if
they are far you can't talk to them in person but there was also a positive effect like you
have time to bond with them and you can do what you want to do like hug them and it was
fun to talk to them in person because you can share your stories and also them they can
share their stories too and both of you can show your true feelings like laughing, crying and
etc. it can also happen in talking to them on internet but in person they can much better
comfort you.

A. Increase affordability
B. Empowering users
C. Improve the relevance of online content
D. Internet infrastructure development
E. Address gender gap in internet access
WHAT YOU WILL DO (Activity 8.6)
1. Limit yourself for using internet because its bad for your health.
Just use your internet if needed and limit yourself for using it
2. I will improve my digital ang online habits by setting a limitation on using it.
3. By spending more time to family, To love once and doing productive activity
1. Depression
-Due to the cyberbullying many kids try to take their own life away that’s why we should
not bully because the words that we say can hurt them.
1. The issues that I see in the poster is they have the same ideas.
2. The possible dangers and issues in the picture was they mght have a big fight about about
the similarities of their inventions.
3. These issues have happened to my friends because they did not think of another way to
make their inventions more different.
5. Give one suggestion to avoid cyber bullying. Give one suggestion to avoid being a
cyberbully.
To avoid cyberbullying:
Be a friend, not a bystander. Watching or forwarding mean messages empowers bullies and
hurts victims even more. If you can, tell bullies to stop or let them know harassment makes
people look stupid and mean. It’s time to let bullies know their behavior is unacceptable –
cruel abuse of fellow human beings. If you can’t stop the bully, at least try to help the victim
and report the behavior.
To avoid being a cyberbully:
How would you feel if someone harassed you? You know the old saying about walking a
mile in someone’s shoes; even a few seconds of thinking about how another person might
feel can put a big damper on aggression. That’s needed in this world.
1. Plagiarism is a legal violation of copyright law, plagiarism is using someone else’s work or
ideas without giving proper credit.
2. Practicing good netiquette entails respecting others opinions and being courteous when
posting online. Not everyone is going to have the same experience at a restaurant, or
opinions on a movie as you.
3. Digital Divide, Internet Addiction, and Cyberbullying are pressing concerns in media and
information today because the people who are under its effects suffer from depression.
Aside from depression, discrimination is also happening to those people. If cyberbullying,
digital divide, and addiction will continue to arise, a lot of people will be at risk of emotional
diseases.
