ROTOR FLIGHT CONTROL -- Tail rotor controls Inspection of the control rod of the YAW
SEMA with heat--shrinkable sleeve
Revision 0 2012-01-23
Revision 1 2016-03-17
Revision 2 2020-02-24
Summary:
During an inspection, corrosion was detected on the control rod of the YAW SEMA (Smart
Electro-Mechanical Actuator). The corrosion was caused by water accumulation under the
heat-shrinkable sleeve. With this Alert Service Bulletin (ASB) the heat-shrinkable sleeve will be
removed and the control rod inspected for corrosion.
The repetitive inspection has been incorporated in the Master Service Manual (MSM 05-24-00) and
in the Aircraft Maintenance Manual (AMM 67-20-00, 6-1). Therefore, with Revision 2, the repetitive
inspection is deleted in this ASB.
If Revision 1 of this ASB has already been accomplished, no additional work is required due to this
Revision.
Compliance:
1.A. EFFECTIVITY
(a) MBB-BK117 C-2, S/N 9004 up to and including S/N 9600 (*) with control rods on which the
grounding strip is installed with a heat-shrinkable sleeve.
(*) During the installation of the YAW-SEMA i.a.w. design document B673M4002051 and B673M4003051, the grounding
strip is attached with cable ties to the control rod as a standard procedure. This procedure was introduced to the serial
production of helicopters from S/N 9601 and up and can be retrofitted with SB MBB-BK117 C-2-67-019. With
accomplishment of SB MBB-BK117 C-2-67-019 the ASB MBB-BK117 C-2-67A-015 becomes ineffective.
Heat-shrinkable sleeve
