UNSCHEDULED MAINTENANCE CHECKS - Supplementary Inspections

Check of the Ethernet connection of Equipment with the MFDs
ATA: 42 INTEGRATED MODULAR AVIONICS (IMA)

Revision No. Date of issue

Revision 0 2022-07-07

Summary:

With this Alert Service Bulletin (ASB), Airbus Helicopters introduces a recurring check of the
Ethernet connection of equipment with the Multi Function Displays (MFDs) to limit the risk of
a multiple MFD failure in flight. If applicable, operating limitations for specific configurations
must be identified.

Compliance:

It is mandatory to comply with this ASB.

None.

1.C REASON
Airbus Helicopters has been informed of an event where all MFDs failed in flight. One
MFD could be restarted to complete the flight.
Analysis revealed an Ethernet network anomaly which could lead to the loss of one
or multiple MFDs.
To limit the risk of a multiple MFD failure in flight, Airbus Helicopters thus requests a
periodic check on MFD of the correct connection of equipment to the Ethernet
network on the Helionix avionics.

3.B.1 Test procedure in maintenance mode
1. Start the Helionix maintenance mode (AMM 46-00-00, 5-2).

NOTE An example of the indication of “XXXXXX” in yellow and “NORMAL”

in green is shown in Figure 1.

NOTE During the starting procedure it is usual that “XXXXXX” in yellow is

shown on the MFD.
2. Wait approximately 40 seconds to allow all MFDs to perform their starting
procedure.
3. Make sure that “NORMAL” stays in green on all lines on all MFDs for a minimum
of five minutes.
4. If within the five minutes “XXXXXX” was shown or flashed in yellow on any line
on any MFD, identify and record the related lines and the position of the MFD.
5. Interpretation of the results:
a. If “NORMAL” stays in green on all lines on all MFDs, do Section 3.B.3.
b. If “XXXXXX” was shown or flashed in yellow on any line on any MFD, do
Section 3.B.2.

- MFD4 → connector 40FNCA (of MFD4) and 83FNBA (of DTD)
(WDM 42-31-00-000)

(1) If the contacts inside the connectors are not plugged and/or not locked,
plug and lock the contacts in the connector (MTC 20-80-20-101).

(2) Do a continuity test of the associated Ethernet wires (MTC 20-02-01-602).

(3) If the continuity test is not satisfactory, check and repair the associated
wires (MTC 20-80-20-442).

(4) Install again the Ethernet wires as previously removed.

(5) Do Section 3.B.1 once again.

(6) If the failure still exists, go to Section 3.B.5.
