Summary:
With this Alert Service Bulletin (ASB), Airbus Helicopters introduces a recurring check of the
Ethernet connection of equipment with the Multi Function Displays (MFDs) to limit the risk of
a multiple MFD failure in flight. If applicable, operating limitations for specific configurations
must be identified.

1.C REASON
Airbus Helicopters has been informed of an event where all MFDs failed in flight. One
MFD could be restarted to complete the flight.
Analysis revealed an Ethernet network anomaly which could lead to the loss of one
or multiple MFDs.
To limit the risk of a multiple MFD failure in flight, Airbus Helicopters thus requests a
periodic check on MFD of the correct connection of equipment to the Ethernet
network on the Helionix avionics.

NOTE Identify carefully the previous and the new position of the affected
MFD.
2. Do Section 3.B.1 once again.
3. If “XXXXXX” is still shown or flashed in yellow on the same MFD S/N (which is
now installed on a new position):
a. Replace the affected MFD by an airworthy MFD (AMM 42-31-00, 4-1,
AMM 42-31-00, 4-2).
b. Do Section 3.B.1 once again.
c. If the failure still exists, go to Section 3.B.5.
4. If “XXXXXX” is still shown or flashed in yellow on the same MFD position than
previously (which is now a new S/N):
a. Replace the DTD by an airworthy DTD (AMM 42-94-00, 4-1, AMM 42-94-00, 4-2).
b. Do Section 3.B.1 once again.
c. If “XXXXXX” is still shown or flashed in yellow on the same MFD position,
disconnect the associated Ethernet wires as defined below:
- MFD1 → connector 10FNCA (of MFD1) and 83FNCA (of DTD)
(WDM 42-31-01-000)
- MFD2 → connector 20FNCA (of MFD2) and 83FNBA (of DTD)
(WDM 42-31-00-000)
- MFD4 → connector 40FNCA (of MFD4) and 83FNBA (of DTD)
(WDM 42-31-00-000)
(1) If the contacts inside the connectors are not plugged and/or not locked,
plug and lock the contacts in the connector (MTC 20-80-20-101).
(3) If the continuity test is not satisfactory, check and repair the associated
wires (MTC 20-80-20-442).
3.B.2.3 If “XXXXXX” was shown or flashed in yellow on one line corresponding to one
AMC channel on all MFDs:
1. Swap the affected AMC (the one corresponding to the line with yellow
“XXXXXX”) with the other one (AMM 42-21-00, 4-1, AMM 42-21-00, 4-2).
NOTE Identify carefully the previous and the new position of the affected
AMC channel.
2. Do Section 3.B.1 once again.
3. If “XXXXXX” is still shown or flashed in yellow on the same AMC S/N (which is
now installed in a new position):
a. Replace the affected AMC by an airworthy AMC (AMM 42-21-00, 4-1,
AMM 42-21-00, 4-2).
b. Do Section 3.B.1 once again.
c. If the failure still exists, go to Section 3.B.5.
4. If “XXXXXX” is still shown or flashed in yellow on the same AMC position than
previously (which is now a new S/N):
- AMC1 channel 1 → connector 31VECAA (of AMC1) and 83FNCA (of DTD)
(WDM 42-31-00-000)
- AMC1 channel 2 → connector 31VECBA (of AMC1) and 83FNCA (of DTD)
(of DTD) (WDM 42-31-00-000)
- AMC2 channel 1 → connector 32VECAA (of AMC2) and 83FNBA (of DTD)
(of DTD) (WDM 42-31-00-000)
- AMC2 channel 2 → connector 32VECBA (of AMC2) and 83FNBA (of DTD)
(of DTD) (WDM 42-31-00-000)
(1) If the contacts inside the connectors are not plugged and/or not locked,
plug and lock the contacts in the connector (MTC 20-80-20-101).
(3) If the continuity test is not satisfactory, check and repair the associated
wires (MTC 20-80-20-442).
NOTE MFD4 is the master for some systems and can be used for the
procedure below.

5. Make sure that for a minimum of five minutes the data stays “OK” and does not
flash as shown in Figure 4:
a. If the data is “OK” as shown in Figure 4, do Section 3.B.6.
b. If the data is “NOK” or flashed as shown in Figure 4, do Section 3.B.4.
