Roles and Responsibilities

BEFORE WELDING
a. Check procedure specification (Year and revisions).
b. Check drawing (correct/Latest revision).
c. Check welding procedure specification and welder approval.
d. Validate certificate of calibration (welding equipment & inspection instrument).
e. Check material and consumable certification.
f. Check welding equipment and all related ancillaries (cable, oven, quiver etc).
g. Check pipe / plate and welding consumable for size, condition, specification & storage.
h. Check the correct method of cutting weld preparation (pre-heat for thermal cutting if
applicable).
i. Correct preparation (Relevant bevel angles, root face, root gap, land etc.).
j. Check pre-welding distortion control (Tackling, bridging, jigs, line up clamp, etc.).
k. Correct level & method of pre heat applied prior to tack welding.
l. All tack welding to be monitored and inspected.

DURING WELDING
a. Weather conditions (Mainly for site work, welding is generally halted when inclement).
b. Pre-heat values (Heating method, location and control method).
c. In-process distortion control (Sequence or balanced welding).
d. Consumable control (Specification, size, condition, and any special treatments).
e. Welding process and all related variable parameter (Voltage, ampere, travel speed,
etc.).
f. Welding and/or purging gasses (Type, pressure/flow and control method).
g. Welding conditions for root run / hot pass and all subsequent run, and inter-run
cleaning.
h. Minimum and/or maximum inter-pass temperatures.
i. Check Compliance with all other variables stated on the approved welding procedure.

AFTER WELDING
a. Carry out visual inspection of the welded joint (Including dimensional aspect).
b. Check and monitor NDT requirement (Method, qualification of operator, execution)
c. Identify repairs from assessment of visual or NDT reports.
d. Post Weld Heat Treatment (PWHT) (Heating method and temperature recording
system).
e. Re-inspect with NDT/NDE after PWHT (if applicable).
f. Hydrostatic test procedure.
REPAIRS
a. Excavation procedure (Approval and execution).
b. Approval of the NDT procedures (For assessment of complete defect removal).
c. Repair procedure (approval of re-welding procedures and welder approval).
d. Execution of approved re-welding procedure (Compliance with repair procedure).
e. Re-inspect the repair area with visual inspection and approved NDT method.
Job Responsibilities

1. Conducting WQT to new welders and issuing of new or renewal of expired welder
ID cards. Proper Maintenance of Quality Documents like WPQR, WPS, RT reports,
RFI, Weld maps and Drawings.
2. Preparation of Weld maps, As-Built Drawings, test package on site. Pre-checking
the job to ensure defect-free work and completing the Inspection by submitting RFI.
3. Random picking of proper erection joints for RT as per NDT requirements. Tracing
the welding defect from RT-Film and Proper completion of the rejected joint in time.
4. Preparation of NDT reports including PT, MPT, UT, RT, Hardness Reports, and
Heat treatment Reports. Familiar with Onsite PMI machine and Hardness Testing
Machine operation.
5. All stage inspections and preparation of RFI, Weld Maps and Inspection Protocols.
6. Coordinating in External expediting & inspections.
7. Arranging Test Certificates & review of Fit up report, DPT report, Hydrotest report,
Final Visual report and RT Reports
8. Preparing Test Package, Submission for system clearance from the Client.
