Here’s how Craig Federighi explained the Siri delay.

After WWDC, iJustine asked Apple’s software boss about the state of Siri a year after the big announcement, and Federighi’s answer was basically that Apple’s still working on it. Fair enough! But then he drops this masterclass of corporate-speak:

“We were not able to take the approach we were taking to the quality level in the time frame that initially we thought we could.”

In other words: Siri still bad. Federighi’s right that the bar is high, and that if it’s not great it’s not anything. We’ll see if Siri can get there.

Snap will start selling AR glasses next year

Details about the hardware are scarce, but CEO Evan Spiegel says the first consumer pair of Specs glasses will definitely cost less than the Vision Pro.

Amazon Key is coming to apartment buildings.

Amazon Key Access Control system is a new building intercom solution that uses the Ring app to let apartment dwellers answer their building door and buzz people in on their phones.

The intercoms need to be installed by a property manager, and the system includes virtual keys for communal spaces; keys for individual apartments aren’t mentioned. Interestingly, Ring founder Jamie Siminoff left Amazon to run a smart building access solution, but he’s now back at Amazon.

The new system offers four options: Intercom Boost can be added to an existing call box to show a resident directory on a smartphone, allow visitors to call through the Ring app, and allow residents to unlock the door.
Intercom Lite does the same thing but fully replaces the call box, or can be added to an existing one.
Intercom Plus is a touchscreen version that also shows a resident directory and acts as a keypad for building access.
Virtual Key can be added to an existing intercom, allowing users to unlock the building door and grant visitors access through the Ring app without the video intercom capability.

Ugreen’s desk charger that can power five laptops at once is now available.

First announced during CES 2025, the Ugreen Nexode Desktop Charger 500W, featuring a total power output of 500w across five USB-C ports and a single USB-A port, is now available through Amazon and the company’s online store for $249.99.

The charger’s top USB-C port can deliver up to 240W of power to a single device, while its five other ports deliver either 100W, 60W, or just 20W for the USB-A port.

If you buy something from a Verge link, Vox Media may earn a commission.

If you’ve got a desk full of power-hungry devices, Ugreen’s new charger can power them all from just a single AC outlet.

Political cheapfakes aren’t dead yet.

The New York Times surveyed the ecosystem of disinformation around the LA anti-ICE protests, and the results are striking for looking... pretty much exactly like the pre-AI world: old recirculated photos, fabricated quotes, and a shot from an ‘80s action movie. The Washington Post did its own social media look-around and found mostly people supporting dueling narratives with real footage. There’s still time for generated fakes to cause problems, but at the moment, reality seems to be eye-catching enough.

No more Liquid Ass.

Don’t worry, this isn’t an ad for medicine. Regardless of what you think of Apple’s new Liquid Glass design, the company doesn’t want you, or its own video, calling it Liquid Ass. Apple has changed its YouTube thumbnail for its Liquid Glass video, because the play button was in a really unfortunate position.

Apple won’t give us a Mac-powered tablet. But it may have finally done the next best thing.

Online publishers are facing a chatbot calamity.

AI tools from companies like Google and OpenAI are replacing traditional web searches, starving news sites of traffic. Similarweb data reported by The Wall Street Journal shows that HuffPost’s organic search traffic fell by just over half in the past three years, and by nearly that much at The Washington Post.

Business Insider, which laid off 21 percent of its staff last month, also saw its organic search traffic decline by 55 percent between April 2022-2025 according to Similarweb.

Ayaneo’s next modernized Nintendo DS has a larger second screen.

Although the original dual-screen Ayaneo Flip was a flop, the company confirmed it was committed to the line and today announced its new Flip 1S DS. The most obvious upgrade is a 7-inch 1080P OLED main screen with a larger 4.5-inch secondary LCD touchscreen with a 1620×1080 pixel resolution.

It will be powered by an AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 processor, run Windows 11, and feature TMR joysticks, but pricing and availability isn’t known yet.

The second screen is still smaller than the Flip 1S DS’ main folding display, but it’s now much larger than it was on the original Ayaneo Flip.
Despite the inclusion of a touchscreen and an optical finger mouse, the Flip 1S DS includes several additional buttons we don’t yet know what they’re used for.
In addition to a D-pad controller, the Flip 1S DS features a pair of analog joysticks that utilize drift-resistant TMR technology.

Paramount cuts hundreds of roles in the US.

The layoffs on Tuesday impact around 3.5 percent of Paramount’s global workforce, with the company having laid off around 2,000 US employees last year. In an internal memo seen by Deadline, Paramount execs said the cuts were driven by linear TV declines and broader economic concerns as the company focuses its efforts on streaming.

“These changes are necessary to address the environment we are operating in and best position Paramount for success.”

Samsung teases a much thinner Fold.

Rumors have long had it that this year’s Galaxy Z Fold phone will be substantially thinner, as Samsung tries to keep up with Oppo and Honor, and now the company itself has hinted at the same.

It says this year’s Fold is “our thinnest, lightest and most advanced foldable yet,” with a picture that certainly looks thin, as it promises to bring the Ultra experience to foldables.

Today’s the day.

Yesterday the official Android Developers account interrupted the WWDC hubbub to tease that the “final release” of Android 16 should arrive today, after seven months of testing. Don’t expect it to include the Material 3 Expressive design language though, which is coming later this year in a quarterly feature drop.

Huawei plays coy on AI chips.

Founder Ren Zhengfei says Huawei’s Ascend chips are still “one generation” behind US rivals like Nvidia, and that the “US has exaggerated Huawei’s capabilities — we’re not that strong yet.”

If that sounds an odd line for a CEO to take, remember that fears over Huawei’s AI prowess have driven a US clampdown intended to boost Nvidia in its place, and that the US and China are negotiating today over export controls and more.

Disney’s deal to buy the rest of Hulu from Comcast is finally done.

While Comcast / NBCUniversal argued for a Hulu valuation that could’ve cost Disney another $5 billion on top of the $8.6 billion it had already paid, a third-party appraiser reached a number much closer to Disney’s. That ended their dispute -- simmering since 2019 -- for only an extra $438.7 million, as reported by THR and Axios.

Bob Iger said this clears the way for deeper integration between Hulu and Disney Plus ahead of the launch of ESPN’s direct-to-consumer streaming service in the fall.

DualSense controllers are getting improved pairing.

Apple, at WWDC: “This year, the frameworks that power input across iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Vision Pro are getting major upgrades, with easier pairing for PlayStation DualSense controllers across all of your devices.”

PlayStation, on X: “Want to pair your DualSense controller to multiple devices at once?An update planned for later this year enhances pairing functionality.”

Seems useful, whenever this rolls out.

Cyberpunk 2077 needs a bit more time for Mac.

As of October 2024, it was set to launch “early next year,“ but now the Ultimate Edition of the game will launch on the Mac App Store “later this year,” according to a footnote at the end of Apple’s Platforms State of the Union video. At least the game is out on Switch 2.
