Developing
Quality Assessment PREPARED BY GROUP 5 OBJECTIVES: At the end of the lesson the students are expected to:
1. DEFINE THE KEY CHARACTERISTICS
OF QUALITY INSTRUCTIONAL ASSESSMENTS.
2. REFLECT ON PERSONAL EXPERIENCES
WITH DIFFERENT TYPES OF ASSESSMENTS AND THEIR PERCEIVED IMPACT ON LEARNING. 3. DEMONSTRATE THE ABILITY TO DESIGN ASSESSMENT TASKS THAT ALIGN WITH THE IDENTIFIED CHARACTERISTICS OF QUALITY ASSESSMENTS. Quality Assessment • refers to the systematic process of evaluating students' knowledge, skills, and abilities in a fair, reliable, and valid manner. It encompasses the design, implementation, and analysis of assessment methods and tools to ensure that they accurately measure desired learning outcomes and provide meaningful insights into student performance. Characteristics of Quality Instructional Assessments Characteristics of Quality Instructional Assessments 1.Validity: Assessments accurately measure what they are intended to measure. Characteristics of Quality Instructional Assessments 2. Reliability: Consistency and dependability of assessment results over time and across different administrations. Characteristics of Quality Instructional Assessments 3. Fairness: Ensuring that assessments do not disadvantage any particular group of students. Characteristics of Quality Instructional Assessments 4. Authenticity: Assessments mirror real-world tasks and contexts. Characteristics of Quality Instructional Assessments 5. Transparency: Clear communication of assessment expectations and criteria to students. Types of Assessment Types of Assessment 1.Diagnostic Assessment: Used to identify students' strengths, weaknesses, and prior knowledge before instruction begins. Types of Assessment 2. Formative Assessment: Ongoing assessments during instruction to monitor student learning and provide feedback for improvement. Types of Assessment 3. Summative Assessment: Administered at the end of a learning period to evaluate students' overall understanding and mastery of content. Four Concerns to Consider in the Design, and Organization of Assessment Tools Four Concerns to Consider in the Design, and Organization of Assessment Tools 1.Alignment: Ensuring that assessments are aligned with instructional objectives and learning outcomes. 2.Authenticity: Designing assessments that reflect real- world applications and contexts. Four Concerns to Consider in the Design, and Organization of Assessment Tools 1.Bias Mitigation: Addressing potential biases in assessment items to ensure fairness for all students. 2.Accessibility: Ensuring that assessment tools are accessible to all students, including those with diverse learning needs.
