1. Unattended cooking equipment and other household fire sources
 Extra caution should be taken when baking or cooking, especially when
oil is being used.
 Oil can easily overheat and ignite. An indication that oil is overheated is
when it starts to excessively froth and smoke.
 Cooking equipment such as stoves, ovens, deep fryers, and barbecue grill
sets should not be left unattended or handled if under the influence of
alcohol.
 A safe distance should be maintained between flammable material and
cooking equipment.
 In kitchen, dish towels, tissue paper, and oven gloves are the usual
flammable objects. While outdoors, trees, grasses, and brushes can catch
fire.
 The liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) tanks should be turned off wen not in
used to avoid leaks. The tank should be kept away from direct sunlight
and at least a meter away from anything which releases heat.
Causes of BUILDING FIRES

 Make sure to use a durable LPG hose and to check from time to time if it
is worn out.
 Make sure to check if the tank is in good shape, free from major dents
and rust.
 Also, protect your LPG tank from water as this may cause the tank to
corrode.
 LPG is originally odorless, but a substance “ethyl mercaptan” is added to
give it odor so that leaks can be quickly detected.
 Cigarette smoking, especially while in bed or furniture, can cause fire. To
prevent fires, designate a smoking area at home and provide a proper
ashtray. Cigarette are usually not extinguished properly when a person is
drowsy de to sleepiness or is under the influence of alcohol and / or
other substances.

 Candles, gas lamps, and mosquito coils placed on a shaky or a slanted
surface, like a wobbly table can be toppled by children, pets, or wind and
can cause fire. Make sure to always extinguish such fire sources before
leaving the place.
 Out of curiosity, children may start fires usually with matches or lighters.
 Never let any of these objects become easily accessible and make it a
point to educate children with the nature of fire and the easily
consequences of playing the fires.
