What Is It

A diary is a book in which one keeps a record of events and


experiences.

It is also called journal.Originally, diary comes in a written format


using any pen or pencil and a notebook.

A personal diary may contain a person’s experiences, thoughts


and feelings.It may also inlcude commentary on events outside of the
writer’s direct experience.

PARTS OF A DIARY

A diary entry has a:
1. Heading is the date and place written at the top.
2. Greeting or Salutation “Dear Diary” is commonly used.
3. Body of the diary is where your thoughts, feelings and experiences
are written. It is written in the first person. Write the actions in order.
Use action words in the past form.
4. Signature is where your name or nickname is written.

I did a lot of things today. I woke up early in the morning to


fetch water. Then I cleaned the floor. I was happy I was not able
to take out the trash because my brother did it. After lunch, I
washed the dishes and had some play with my younger sister. I
watched TV at 6 pm and prepared the bed.

Tips in writing a diary:
1. Events or experiences must be arranged from first to last.
2. Action words must be in the past form of the verb. Like in the
diary above, words were in the past such as did, woke up,
cleaned, was, washed and watched.
3. You must share your feelings,emotions and more expereinces.
4. It must have the different parts. See our Lesson 1.
5. Always use the first person “I” as you did the action.
6. You can prepare checklist of activities for you to remember easily
the things you did.

In writing a diary, the action must be in the past. The parts


must be completed (date, greeting, body of the diary, signature).
Use the first person “I”. Tell the different experiences and
