1 (a) Outline Isaiah`s prophecy concerning the suffering servant of Yahweh in Isaiah 53.
(7 marks)

I. The servant will succeed in his work and will be highly honored.
II. The success and honor will surprise many who have witnessed the suffering.
III. The servant is despised, rejected and ignored by those who are with him.
IV. He has nothing attractive. He is very ordinary and simple.
V. He is harshly treated, arrested, sentenced to death and killed.
VI. His body is buried with the bodies of rich men.
VII. He endures all that is done to him in humble silence.
VIII. He accepts the suffering which should have been received by others for their sins.
IX. Through his suffering, human beings are reconciled to God.
X. It was the will of God that the servant should suffer.
XI. His death is a sacrifice to bring forgiveness of sin.

(b) Describe the annunciation of the birth of John the Baptist Luke 1:5-25. (8 marks)

I. Zechariah was in the temple burning incense/performing priestly duties.


II. An angel of the Lord appeared to him at the altar.
III. Zechariah was overcome with fear.
IV. The angel told him not to be afraid.
V. He told him that his prayers had been heard/Elizabeth his wife will bear a son.
VI. The angel said they will call him John.
VII. The angel said the child would be great in God’s sight/would not drink wine/would be
filled with the Holy Spirit from birth.
VIII. Zechariah questioned the possibility of having a child since he and his wife were old.
IX. The angel revealed his name as Gabriel/said he had been sent by God.
X. The angel told Zechariah that he would not be able to speak until the time the child is
born.
XI. Zechariah delayed ¡n the temple which made the worshippers to wonder.
XII. When he came out, he could not speak/he made signs to the people/people perceived
that he had seen a vision in the temple.

(c) Give five reasons why Christians present gifts to the newly born babies in Kenya today.
(5 marks)

I. Christian give gifts in order to welcome the baby into the family/ world
II. It is a sign of their love / contribution to the baby’s welfare
III. It is a way of appreciating the gift of life/ blessing
IV. It is a form of congratulating the mother/ parents
V. It is an expression of their joy
VI. It is a way of emulating biblical practices

2(a) Identify six reasons why Jesus was rejected at Nazareth (6 marks)

I. He claimed that the prophesy of the Messiah by Isaiah was fulfilled in Him.
II. Jesus did not perform the kind of miracles He had performed in Capernaum in Nazareth

III. He annoyed his listeners when He told them that their fore fathers had rejected God’s
prophets by persecuting them.
IV. The people of Nazareth rejected Jesus for telling them that the Good News was first
offered to Jews but they had rejected it so it would be made available to the Gentiles.
V. He told them that no prophet is accepted in his own home.
VI. Jesus compared the Jews unfavorably with the Gentiles which annoyed the Jews.

(b) Describe the calls the first disciples. Luke5:1-11. (8marks)

I. When Jesus was walking along the shores of Gennesaret.


II. The people pressed upon him to hear his word
III. He saw two boats that belonged to fisher\men who were washing their nets
IV. He asked Peter to push it to the shores so that he might sit on it
V. He taught the people the word of God
VI. After His teachings, he asked Simon to push his boat into the waters and lower the nets
for a catch
VII. Simon replied that they had been up all night trying to catch fish but they did not catch
even one
VIII. But by His word he was going to do it
IX. when they threw their nets, they got a lot of fish nets were breaking and beckon their
boats for help
X. They got two boats full of fish. Simon fell on Jesus’ feet and asked him to depart from
him as he was a sinner
XI. Jesus replied saying that they will no longer be fishermen but fishers of men
XII. They left everything and followed him.

(c) Explain how human beings should relate to one another from the teaching of Jesus
Sermon on the plain. Luke 6:27-38. (7marks)

I. Human beings should love enemies.


II. They should do good to those who hate them.
III. They should bless those who curse them
IV. They should pray for those who mistreat them
V. They should help those in need
VI. They should lend without expecting anything in return.
VII. They should show mercy to others
VIII. They should not judge/condemn others
IX. Human being should forgive one another/not revenge.
X. They should be generous
XI. They should do unto others what they expect done to them.

3.(a) Describe the triumphant entry of Jesus into Jerusalem Luke 19:28-40. (8marks)

I. Jesus was passing through Bethpage/Bethany/ the mount of Olives


II. He sent two of his disciples to get him a colt that had not been sat on
III. He told them that if the owner of the colt asked them why they were untying it they
were to say that the lord needed it
IV. The owner of the colt sort to know where it was being taken.
V. The disciples brought the colt/they threw their garments on it/set Jesus upon it
VI. As Jesus rode on, the people spread their garments on the road
VII. The multitude began to rejoice/praise God for the mighty works they had seen/blessed
is the king who comes in the name of the Lord
VIII. Some Pharisees told Jesus to silence the disciples
IX. Jesus told them that if the disciples were to be quiet then the stones would cry out.

(b) Identify six evidences that showed that showed that Jesus resurrected (6marks)

I. The tomb was empty/ the stone was rolled away from the tomb and Jesus body was not
there.
II. Two men in dazzling cloth appeared to the holy women and said to them why do you
seek the living among the dead/ Jesus had risen.
III. Jesus appeared to the two men on the road to Emmaus and spoke with them and even
broke bread with them.
IV. The risen lord appeared to Simon.
V. Jesus appeared to the eleven apostles
VI. He showed the apostles his hands and feet.
VII. He was given a piece of broiled fish and he took it and ate it before his disciples.
VIII. He went with his disciples as far as Bethany and he blessed them before ascending into
heaven.

(c) Explain why the resurrection of Jesus is important to Christians. (6 marks)

I. The resurrection of Jesus is the foundation, ‘basis of Christian faith/unifies.


II. It gives Christians hope for eternal life.
III. The resurrection of Jesus confirms that there is life after death.
IV. Through the resurrection of Jesus, death has been conquered/ overcome.
V. It confirms Jesus as the Son of God, ‘Messiah’.
VI. It gives Christian’s courage to face suffering/death/persecution.
VII. The resurrection of Jesus led to the coming of the Holy Spirit.
VIII. It is the central theme in Christian preaching/teaching.
IX. It confirms that the scriptures are true/fulfillment of Old Testament prophecies.

4.(a) Describe the events that took place during the day of Pentecost. Acts 2:1-41 (7marks)

I. The disciples had gathered in one place/in a house in Jerusalem


II. A sound came from heaven like a mighty wind which filed the house they were in
III. Tongues of fire appeared to them/ rested upon each one of them
IV. Disciples were all filled with the holy spirit
V. They started speaking in tongues/other languages
VI. The multitude came together /were amazed that they could hear the disciples speaking
native languages
VII. Some people mocked /claimed disciples were drunk
VIII. Peter defended the disciples/explained that they were not drunk/were filled with the
Holy spirit in fulfillment of Joel’s prophecy
IX. Peter preached about the life, death and resurrection of Jesus
X. People became remorseful/asked peter what they could do
XI. Peter told them to repent/be baptized/save themselves from crooked generation
XII. About three thousand people repented/ were baptized

(b).Explain how the unity of believers is expressed in the image of the bride.2 nd Cor 11:2/ Rev

I. Christians are the bride while Jesus is the bridegroom


II. Christians are to be committed to Christ as the bride is to the bridegroom
III. The church must remain pure/faith in Jesus as the bride keeps her purity for her
husband
IV. The church is loved by Christ just as the bridegroom loves his bride
V. Committed Christians will be taken to heaven/new home just as the bride is taken home
by her husband
VI. The union between Christ and the church will be Everlasting just as the union between
the bride and bridegroom is permanent
VII. The church must remain pure/love as the bride keeps her purity for her husband
VIII. The church should prepare for Jesus coming just as the bride does to meet her husband
to be/ she is beautifully dressed for the groom,

5. (a)State seven similarities between Christians and the Traditional African understanding of
marriage. (7 marks)

I. In both, marriage is for procreation.


II. In both, marriage promotes is a permanent union.
III. Divorce is only allowed under very special circumstances
IV. In both marriages promotes the status of the who are joined together.
V. In both marriage is sacred and is the will of God.
VI. In both the husband is the head of the family.
VII. In both, sex outside marriage is illegal.
VIII. Men and women acquire the right to have sexual satisfaction and mutual love in
marriage in both.
IX. In both marriage is seen as binding two people in an unique relationship

I. Provide suitable and acceptable working terms and conditions for their employees.

III. To take care of the welfare of their employees i.e medical leaves and pension scheme
IV. To motivate their employees by providing equal opportunities for promotion and being
fair to them
V. To reward their employees by sharing profits they get.
VI. To ensure that their employees who get redundant due to one reason or the other get
their compensation accordingly
VII. To give their employees time off from their normal duties so as to allow them relax and
regain lost energy.

I. To emulate Jesus who paid taxes to the roman government

III. Christians pay taxes in order to receive services from the government

V. It is a sign of patriotism
VI. It is a way of sharing their wealth / resources with others
VII. It is their duty to pay taxes to the government
VIII. To enable the government to meet its financial obligations.

(b)Explain the Christian view on plastic surgery in Kenya today. (7 marks)

I. Christians approve plastic surgery when used to restore/improve deformities.


II. It is not recommended for beauty/ cosmetic reasons since that goes against the Lord’s
design
III. It is like self-glorification thus it is discouraged
IV. God is interested in one’s soul other than beautiful body
V. Plastic surgery takes the place of God who is the creator/ challenges God as the creator
VI. The intention of plastic surgery in most cases is to created celebrities who became
objects of worship
VII. The risks involved while conducting plastic surgery can lead to deformity/ death.
VIII. It shows lack of appreciation to oneself.

(c)Identify six obstacles to effective maintenance of law and order in Kenya today. (6 marks)

I. Availability of dangerous weapons in wrong hands leads to terrorism


II. Few resources to cater for the ever growing population leading to overcrowding
III. People don’t care about others hence don’t report cases of lawlessness
IV. Bribery/corruption has destroyed credibility of government officials
V. Greed for power makes some people to break the law to acquire wealth
VI. Fear of victimization have made people to resign to a life of hopelessness
VII. Economic inability makes the poor to resort to lawlessness
VIII. Inadequate skilled personnel hampers maintenance of law
IX. Interference from activists who oppose government initiative to maintain law and order
