Present continuous or progressive

Actions that are happening now, (normally accompanied by adverbs such as: now, at the moment, today, etc)
Acciones que están sucediendo ahora, (normalmente acompañadas de adverbios como: ahora, en este momento,
hoy, etc)
Examples:
 I am watching TV right now.
 Susan is cleaning the kitchen at this moment
Structure

Subject + be + verb ing + complement


Peter is reading a book now

Remenber
I am Yo soy, estoy, tengo.
You are Tú eres, estás, tienes.
He is Él es, está, tiene.
She is Ella es, está, tiene.
It is Esto/a es, está, tiene.
We are Nosotros/as somos, estamos, tenemos
You are Ustedes son, están, tienen.
They are Ellos/as son, están, tienen.

Time expressions for present continuous


 At this moment (en este momento)
 Now (ahora)
 Right now (ahora mismo)
 At the moment (en este momento)

Rules
1. Most verb  Wear - wearing
Adds ing  Go - going
 Cook - cooking
 Hold - holding
 Do - doing

2. If the infinitive ends in e  Write - writing


Drop the e and add ing  Smile - smailing
 Take - taking
 Dance - dancing
 Ride - riding
3. Except: ee and ie  Agree - agreeing
ee (add ing)  See - seeing
ie (change “i” to “y” add “ing”)  Die - dying
 Lie - lying

4. When a one-syllable verbs endings in :  Sit - sitting


consonant + vowel + consonant  Get - getting
Double final the consonant +ing  Run - running
 Stop - stopping
 Jog - jogging

5. Except: Do not double one- syllable verbs  Snow - snowing


endings in: w, x or y  Mix - mixing
 Play - playing
 Box - boxing
