CA4.

2 The Ages of Man: Ageing well

Pre-tasks

Start by doing the exercises which you can find in the classroom in the Resources section:
The Ages of Man: Ageing well. You can find the Resources section in the top right corner
of the classroom. As you are working through the exercises, take note of any new language
you learn. You will need this to prepare the Tasks below.

When you have finished, share one thing that you have learnt from these resources (e.g.
vocabulary, expressions or grammar) to the I have learnt something today folder in the
Forum.

Task 1

Overview

Task type To do Where Length % CA mark

Individual Speaking Langblog 1–2 60

minutes
Task Instructions: In this task, you are going to record a video about yourself. You have
joined an employment website where you have already posted your CV. Now, you need to
make a short video to introduce yourself:

CareerFinder: Communications Jobs

Now that we know about your work experience and qualifications, we would like to get to know you a
bit better. Record an introduction video talking about topics such as your background, your passions,
your dreams, your achievements (and failures) and your life goals. Include what makes you ‘stand
out from the crowd’.

CA4.2 The Ages of Man: Ageing well
Record a video contribution of 1 - 2 minutes telling us what makes you stand out from
the crowd. Your talk must include an introduction, a main body and a conclusion.

Remember: For your introduction to be effective, you need to be spontaneous and "speak to
the camera”. Bear in mind that if you do not make eye contact, or if your pronunciation or
intonation is unnatural (e.g., if you are reading from a script), your mark will be lowered.

LANGUAGE FOCUS

For this task you will need to use the following structures in the CA4.2 self-study resources:
signposting language and effective organisation of your talk. Use some of the structures
that you have studied. Try and use the ones which are completely new to you and include a
variety of them.

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
Please see Assessment and Feedback in the classroom.

Task 2

Q & A (LANGBLOG)

Watch at least two of your classmates’ videos and think about them carefully as you listen.
Think of a question to ask them about what you’ve heard. Then, post your response to them
in Langblog either as a video or as an audio file.

You can ask questions about the content of their talks or ask them to clarify something you
didn’t understand.

Feel free to continue responding to your classmates in a dialogue!

Skills Work: Reading Activity 2

You have until the end of this CA to complete Reading Activity 2. For exact instructions to this
task, please check the CA4.1 guidelines.
