COURSE INFORMATION
1. Course Number: CRI 223
2. Course Name: Special Crime Investigation with Legal Medicine
3. Course Description: This course covers the special study of modern techniques in the investigation
of crimes involving crimes against persons, and other related offenses. The application of medical
science in crime investigation with emphasis on the medico-legal aspects of physical injuries, death,
abortion, infanticide, burn, and poisoning. Develop a framework for investigating crimes, crime
scene processing, and report writing. The course is instructed in accordance with the esteemed
standard outlined in the PQF/AQRF ensuring its alignment with recognized frameworks for
criminology education.

POLICIES AND GUIDELINES

Cheating plagiarism and all forms of academic dishonesty are expressly forbidden in this course and by
the University’s policy on Academic Integrity. Examples of such violations include but are not limited to:

a. Collusion, purchasing or commissioning an assessment task/research paper


b. Copying verbatim from a research article/book/journal/etc;
c. Copying verbatim from generative Al, such as ChatGPT;
d. Falsifying or inventing any information, data or citation, and false representation
e. Attendance is counted from the 1st day of the class as mandated by the university. Upon incurring ten
unexcused absences, a student shall receive a 9.0 grade (Dropped) (Ref: OPM 6.04).
f. Students are expected to attend all sessions of this course. Absence for any reason in NO way relieves the
student of the responsibility for completing all the tasks in this course.
g. Punctuality must be observed. Students who enter the classroom ten (10) minutes after the third bell shall
be considered late.
h. A validated student identification card must always be worn by all students while attending classes and
within the school campus.
i. Valid examination permits are necessary for taking the examinations as scheduled, except for the final
examination where students can take the exam even without a final permit.
j. During major examinations, students must wear a plain white t-shirt or a prescribed college shirt.
k. Students who failed to take the first, second, or third exams for valid reasons are given special exams to be
scheduled and administered by the dean’s office within the allowed period. Valid reasons are limited only to
the following: no permits, medical reasons, and the death of an immediate family member (parents and
siblings). Students who fail to take the special exams will have zero scores. For special exams in the final
exam, the only valid reasons are medical reasons and the death of a family member. Proof of these reasons
shall be required.
l. Students who failed to submit course requirements (research, assignments, etc.) within the reasonable
period agreed between the teacher and students shall be given zero as a score in the requirement.
m. All students shall be required to obtain a copy of the approved textbook indicated in the course outline and
must bring the same every session.
n. Cheating is strictly prohibited. Any form of dishonesty shall be dealt with accordingly. Honesty is always
called for.
o. Regularly check Blackboard Learn courses for activities, assignments, requirements, and announcements. Be
mindful of the due dates of submissions.
p. The use of cellular phones, electronic gadgets, or scientific calculators is not allowed during classes and
examinations unless permitted by the teacher.
q. Taking pictures and/or video recording while classes are going on is strictly prohibited unless the teacher
permits.

r. Base-15 grading policy should be observed. Students who obtained failing scores in major exams are
recommended to undergo the STAR Program.
s. Proper dress code, prescribed haircut, no facial hair such as beard and mustaches, no wearing of earrings for
male students, and no dyed hair for all students are strictly observed.
t. Keep the classroom or learning environment orderly and free from litter and waste; and
q. Eating inside the classroom is strictly prohibited. Students may be allowed to bring bottled water.
