III. Learning Experiences:

A. Preparatory Activity:

1. Drill- Mental Computation

Mechanics:

a. Put equation cards on the table.


b. Each member of the group take turns in getting and reading the cards, then
give the answer orally.
c. If the given answer is wrong, the other group can steal and get the point if
they can give the correct answer.
d. The group with the most number of correct answers wins the game.
Ex. 3.2 x 2.2 = N 1.7 x 0.2 = N
0.22 x 0.3 = N 4.4 x 3.3 = N

2. Review

Group Activity –Square Share

a. Problem cards will be given to each group.


b. Have each group read the problem given to them.
c. Teacher will call :
All 4s of each group - give the facts
All 2s of each group – give the operation
All 3s of each group- give the number sentence
All 1s of each group – give the correct answer.
d. The group with the most number of correct answers, gets a point for their
group.
Ex. Brando bakes cookies and sells them at P 2.50 each. If he sold 82
pieces, how much was his sale?
3. Motivation
What are the steps in solving a word problem?
Why do we have to analyze the word problem before giving the answer?
How do you know that your answer is correct?

B. Developmental Activities:
1. Presentation:
Present the menu on the board .
Diaz’ Snack- Inn

Mango Juice(in can) P 18.00
Cookies P 5.50
Hamburger sandwich P10.00
Halo-halo P35.00
Pancake P5.00
Spaghetti P 40.00
The family of Mr. and Mrs. Roland Cuevas were very busy cleaning
their garden. Their two children, Luisa and Mariz helped them in watering the
plants. They felt very tired and so their mother ordered food for their snacks in
Diaz’ Snack-In. She ordered 4 cans of mango juice, 4 packs of spaghetti and 2
pieces of hamburger sandwich. How much did mother pay for their snacks?

Ask :Do you have garden at home? Did you help your parents in cleaning?
How? ( expected answer: cultivating the garden or watering the
plants)
Say : It is important to help your parents like in cleaning your yard so that the
work will be done easier and faster.

Let us now analyze the problem .

 What is asked?
 What facts are given?
 What is the hidden question?
 What operations are needed?
 What is the number sentence?
 What is the solution to the problem?
 Does the answer make sense?

2. Fixing Skills
Individual Activity
Call any volunteer to solve the problem on the board.

1. For the good service, a garbage collector regularly receives P 12.50 each
from the five housewives once a week. How much does he earn in a week?
2. The rental for a van is P3,000.00 a day. How much will it cost you if you
rent it for 2.5 days?

4. Generalization:
What are the steps in solving 2-to 3- step word problems?

What is the first thing you need to know?

5. Application:

Group Activity ( Mixed Group- boys and girls)

Post the problem on the board.


Let them answer on the question assigned to their group.
Their output will be posted on the board.

1. Marissa bought 8 bags of biscuits at P42.50 each. How much did she pay for all
the biscuits?
2. If 1 meter of ribbon costs P 87.25, how much would you pay for 3.5 meters cost?

Group 1 – What is asked?

Group 2 – What is the operation to be used?

Group 3 –What is the number sentence?

Group 4 – What is the solution to the problem?

Group 5 – What is the answer?.

Let them observe the output of each group. Then, give emphasis on how to arrive the

correct answer.

IV. Evaluation:

Read the problem and solve.

1. A can of juice was on sale at P 16.75 each. How much would you pay for the 12
cans of juice?
a.What is asked in the problem?
b. What is the mathematical sentence?
2. Mrs. Dela Cerna bought 1 dozen of eggs at P 5.50 each. How much did she pay for

it?

a. What are the given facts?


b. What is the operation to be used to solve the problem?
c. What is the correct answer?

V. Assignment:

Translate these problems to number sentences then solve.

1. A carpet costs P 187.50 per square meter. If you want to buy 3.5 square meters of
a carpet , how much will you pay?
2. Nena wants to buy 36 red balloons. How much did she give to the cashier if it
cost P15.50 each?
