V. RATIONALE:

The English Department will hold its competitions for the English Month. Stage and Media Arts Group
(SMAG), The English Department’s English Organization, will be the focal team responsible for the event,
this November 28-December 2, 2022.

Language is culture and we know how language evolves every time. As we celebrate the English
Month of the learners in San Jose National High School, we celebrate the English language as well.
These competitions will enhance the learners’ proficiency of the language and showcase talents among
them. The English Department has come up with knowledgeable, yet fun experience for the learners.
Competitions include Literary Door Decorating Competition, Author Costume Play, Singing Competitions,
and The Spelling Bee Finals. Novel Gallery will also be included as part of the learners’ exposure to wide
arrays of novels.

These competitions will surely give them butterflies, yet more on excitement, fun and learning. The
competitions are individual, group, and by section categories.

VI. OBJECTIVES:
The project aims to:
a) integrate Reading Month (Reading in Tandem)
b) sharing of talents and skills through language proficiency
c) encourage healthy competition among students.
d) increase parents and stakeholders’ participation in school activities through attendance and
sharing of insights in the workshops.

f) Only the identified materials are allowed to be used in their outputs.
g) First, Second, and Third Place winners will be determined at the end of the contest.

A photo essay is a series of photographs that tell a story. Unlike a written essay, a photo essay
focuses on visuals instead of words. With a photo essay, you can stretch your creative limits and explore new
ways to connect with your audience.

1. Participants: composed of 3 students per grade level from Grades 7, 8, & 9


2. Venue: Home-based competition utilizing Zoom application.
3. Materials: black pen and intermediate sheets of paper and a device that can handle Zoom
Application. A cellphone that is enough to capture clear photographs.
4. Mechanics:

a. Participants must be a bonafide students at San Jose National High School.


b. Each participant shall prepare and provide their own materials.
c. They must also secure internet access on the day of the contest for monitoring.
d. All participants shall join a video conferencing via Zoom Application on the time and date of
orientation, workshop, and the contest.
e. They will be given 2 hours to finish their piece.
f. Only the identified materials are allowed to be used in their outputs.
g. Participants can only use a cellphone camera.
h. Participants shall capture a series of 3 photos portraying the message they want to convey
around the theme.
i. No photo-editing applications to enhance the captured images can be used.
j. A Google Drive Link will be given to post photos and captions
k. Photos will be arranged and formatted with captions on a PowerPoint slide for easier judging.
l. Photos should be submitted via Google Drive on the designated date and time.
m. First, Second, and Third Place winners will be determined at the end of the contest.
