Activities: A. Preliminary Activity:
Review:
Have a short review of the previous lesson by asking the class to
formulate three (3) thought provoking questions based on the topic
in the box below.
COVID-19 Pandemic

Motivation:
Ask the students to examine the boxes of information Set A and Set
B. Ask the class to compare the paragraphs in boxes A and B. Which
paragraph is clearer, more formal, concise, focused, structured and
back up by evidence. Which paragraph is more conversational,
informal and subjective?
Unlocking of difficult words:
1. Academic writing-is a formal style of writing.
2. Formality- is using formal language rather than everyday
common language.
3. Objectivity- means that the writing must be impersonal.
4. Explicitness- is the responsibility of the writer in English to
make it clear to the reader how the various parts of the text
are related.
5. Caution- is an important feature of academic writing which is
the concept of cautious language, often called “hedging” or
“vague language”
