ACTIVITY 1 - Philosophy of The Self

St. Augustine believed that one could not achieve inner peace without finding God's love. The author chose St. Augustine's perspective because as a Christian, they strongly believe we are made in God's image and serving others is serving God. Finding God brings understanding of oneself, doing good instead of evil, and living in a way that brings joy through suffering by following Christ's example.

ACTIVITY: Philosophy of the Self

Choose one philosopher whose concept of the self is closely related to your own notion or life experience. Explain the
reasons for your choice.
Philosopher: St. Augustine

Perspective of the Philosopher:

“One could not achieve inner peace without finding God's love.”

Reason for your choice of philosophical perspective:

I think I have the same perspective as St. Augustine considering that I’m a Christian, I strongly believe
this. We’re made in the image and likeness of God and as His follower, we serve as His instruments to share
the goodness to our fellowmen and we can do it in our simple way. Just like me and my friends do, we share
food and water to the poor and attend mass every Sunday. This is also my way of expressing my gratefulness
for the blessings that God has given us. I realize that by getting to know God better, the better I’m going to
understand myself. By doing this, more chances that I’m going to do everything that is good, not wicked and the better
your life will be. Being a Christian means living in Christ, depending on Him to make us what He wants us to be.
It is difficult and painful for a person to live in Christ at times. At the same time, it gives great joy. God is the
source of all true joy. Jesus suffered greatly and still He found joy in that suffering. To experience this joy, we
must share our sufferings with him, following His example, because it’s by sharing our suffering that we can
find the greatest peace and happiness.
