Worksheet No. 1.4 – Polygons

Name: Marjun Ray A, Catan Date:

Grade & Section: 7-Analyst Titanium

1. Which of the following are polygons? Give reasons.

Answer: (b) Star, because it has straight sides, vertices and it is closed 2D shape.

2. How many diagonals do the following polygons have?

n(n−3) 6(6−3) 6(3) 18

(a) Regular Hexagon   = A hexagon has 9 diagonals      = = = =9
2 2 2 2

n(n−3) 4 (4−3) 4
(b) Quadrilateral = A quadrilateral have 2 diagonals     = =   =2
2 2 2

(c) Octagon = A octagon have 20 diagonals why because 8(8−3)/2 = 8×5/2 = 20 diagonals

n(n−3) 3(3−3) 0
(d) Triangle = Triangle has no diagonals because each vertex has only adjacent vertices.    = = =0
2 2 2

(e) Convex quadrilateral = There two diagonals of a convex quadrilateral because the line segments connect opposite
n(n−3) 4 (4−3) 4 (1) 4
vertices.    = = =    = 2
2 2 2 2

n(n−3) 5(5−3) 5(2) 10

(f) Pentagon = There are 5 diagonals in a Pentagon =    = = =    = 5
2 2 2 2

 3. Draw a regular hexagon. Join any three of its vertices and draw a triangle. Name the triangle obtained.

F E

∠ABF is a triangle drawn by connecting 3 vertices

In ∠ABF

A A D ∠AB=∠AF

So, 2 sides are equal and this is a ISOSCELES

TRIANGLE

B C

4. What is a regular polygon? Write the names of regular polygons having

A regular polygon is a polygon that is equiangular and equilateral. Regular polygons may be either convex or star.

(a) 3 sides = Equilateral Triangle

(b) 4 sides = Square

(c) 5 sides = Regular Pentagon

5. What can you say about the angle sum property of a convex polygon having:

(a) 9 sides = To find the sum of interior angles of a polygon use 180(n-2),where n is the number of sides: Sum of the
interior angles=180(9-2)=180(7)=1260° If u don't have remember this formula, though, u can divide a polygon into
triangles. Then count the triangles and multiply that number by 180, 7 triangles×180=1260°

(b) 7 sides = To find the Type equation here .

(c) 10 sides

(d) 12 sides

6. Find each interior angle in a regular polygon of

180(n−2) 180(7−2) 180(5)

(a) 7 sides       = = = =900 °
n 7 7

(n−2)180 (10−2)180 (8)180 1,440

(b) 10 sides     =  = = = =144 °
10 10 10 10

(n−2)180 (16−2)180 (14 )180

(c) 16 sides     =  = = =2,520 °
16 16 16

180(n−2) (21−2) 180 (19)180 3,420

(d) 21 sides = = = = =162.85 °
21 21 21 21

7. Find the number of sides of a polygon, the sum of whose interior angle is:

(n−2)180 (10−2)180 (8)180 1,440

(a) 1440°   =   = = = =144 °
10 10 10 10

(b) 1080°   =
(c) 1800°   =

(d) 1260°   =

(e) 2340° =

8. Find the number of sides of a polygon whose each interior angle is:

180° n(n2)
(a) 165° = =165 °
n

180° (n-2) = 165°n

180°n – 360°n = 165°n

180°n - 165°n = 360°

15n = 360°

n = 24

( n 2 ) 180 °
(b) 135° = =135 °
n

(n-2)180° = 135°n

180°n – 360° = 135°n

180°n – 135° = 360°

45n = 360°

n = 8

( n 2 ) 180 °
(c) 140° = =140 °
n

(n-2)180° = 140°n

180°n – 360° = 140°n

180°n – 140° = 360°

40n = 360°

n = 9

( n 2 ) 180 °
(d) 162° = =162°
n

(n-2)180° = 162°n
180°n – 360° = 162°n

180°n – 162° = 360°

18n = 360°

n = 20

( n 2 ) 180 °
(e) 108° = =108 °
n

(n-2)180° = 108°n

180°n – 360° = 108°n

180°n – 108° = 360°

72n = 360°

n = 5
