FORCES AND MOTION:
UNIFORM AND CIRCULAR MOTION
Week 2 – Module 1
WHAT DO YOU ALREADY KNOW?
1. (C) Force is equal to mass times acceleration.
2. (B) The velocity changes constantly
3. (B) The act of motion in a circle around a precise point.
4. (A) Yes, the object is accelerating, so a net force is acting n it.
5. (B) Unbalanced

WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED?

1. (D) An object travels on a circular path at a constant speed
2. (B) The acceleration of an object moving in a circular path and directed radically towards
the center of the circular orbit.
3. (A) centripetal force
4. (D) speed; velocity
5. (D) Path D
6. (A) Increase inversely with the distance
7. (C) Line
8. (B) direct
9. (B) tangent
10. (B) Path B

ENRICHMENT ACTIVITY 1: Concept Check

Across:
2. acceleration
3. inertia
4. second
6. velocity
8. circular motion
9. tangent
10. newton

Down:
1. net force
5. radius
7. centripetal force
ENRICHMENT ACTIVITY 2
Guide Questions:
1. If this event were observed from directly above as in the figure, which path would
the ball most closely follows the string breaks.
In path B the ball most closely follows the string breaks because path B is tangent to the
strings and it is considered as tangential velocity.
2. What would happen if the string attached with a steel ball will be lengthen? or
shorten?
It will be longer than the original. So that, the radius of circular path will be larger that is why the
speed will be slower.

ENRICHMENT ACTIVITY 3
Question:
1. Tony Stark wishes to challenge Thor and test his physics competence and he
suggested that Thor should attach a chain to his hammer to make it swirl with
a larger circumference and thereby producing faster speed in throwing the
hammer for Thor to win the competition. Is the suggestion helpful for Thor?
For me it will not help Thor, because the suggestion of Tony is wrong. When there is a
chain attached in the hammer It will make the radius of the path of whirled hammer larger, that
statement is correct by Tony but he was wrong when he said that it will be faster because it will
make the hammer slow down. We need to remember that it is inversely proportional to each
other.

ENRICHMENT ACTIVITY 4
Questions:
1. Is the distance covered by the stopper changing? What made you say so?
Throughout the process it remains the same, because length of the strings is still
approximately constant.
2. What does the tome for 20 revolutions represent?
It represents how fast the stopper is moving.
3. What does the number of washers or candies represent?
It represents the force exerted by the string on the stopper which is the tension force on
the stopper.
4. What happen to the time of revolution as the number of washers increased?
The time to complete to complete 20 revolution decreases.
5. Based on the data gathered, what relationship exists between the speed and
velocity and the centripetal force of an object moving in a uniform circular
motion?
The centripetal force and the speed /velocity of an object moving in uniform circular
motion are directly proportional to each other. As the centripetal force is increased, the
speed/velocity of the moving body also increases.
