Conjugate Beam Method SLU

The document discusses the conjugate beam method for analyzing determinate and indeterminate structures. It defines determinacy as the ability to calculate all external reaction forces using static equilibrium equations. Indeterminacy means there are more unknowns than equations. The conjugate beam method involves converting the real beam loading into an equivalent curvature diagram, treating it as the loading on a conjugate beam, and solving for deflections. It provides examples of using the method to find deflections at various points for beams with different support conditions.

Conjugate Beam Method

Determinacy, Indeterminacy, and Stability
Stability
- A stable structure is one that will not collapse when disturbed. It may
be defined as “The power to recover equilibrium”
Determinacy (External)
- The ability to calculate all of the external reaction component forces
using only static equilibrium
Indeterminacy (External)
- Indeterminate structures effectively have more unknowns than can be
solved using the equilibrium equations.
Reaction Components (r)
r will be the total number of reaction components
Condition Equations (c)
These are release conditions within the structure that provide extra
equilibrium equations beyond the three for global equilibrium.
