Problem Set 4 and 5prob

This document contains summaries of 4 problems related to analyzing structures and friction: 1) determining pin reactions and member forces in a frame, 2) using the method of joints to find member forces in a truss, 3) using the method of sections to find forces in specific truss members, and 4) determining the friction force on a block as an applied force is increased.

Chapter 4 and 5: Analysis of Structures and Friction

Problem 1: Determine the pin reactions at A and all forces acting on member DEF of the frame shown in
the figure. Neglect the weights of the members and use the two-force principle wherever applicable.

Problem 2: Using the method of joints, determine the force in each member of the truss shown in the
figure. Indicate whether the members are in tension or compression.

Problem 3: Using the method of sections, determine the forces in the following members of the truss in
the figure (a) FI and JC. Indicate tension or compression

Problem 4: The 50-kg block in the figure is initially at rest on a horizontal plane. Determine the friction
force between the block and the surface after P was gradually increased from 0 to 150 N.
