Monitor Channel is missed

Two years after the Monitor Channel shut down and put 400 people out of work due to financial troubles in the Christian Science church, veterans of the innovative 24-hour news magazine say they miss both the camaraderie and the quality.

"I look back wistfully at what might have been," said John Palmer, former news anchor and now White House correspondent for Monitor Radio. "We wanted people to have an opportunity to see a channel that dwelt on quality, where quality was the bottom line and not the dollar."

But it was money that was the undoing of the Monitor Channel, which lasted just 11 months after it was launched by the First Church of Christ, Scientist, as a broadcast …
