I am running with ubuntu 24.04.2
I have two posts and they have the exactly same name, ie:
Is there anyway to make the extension manager on all the time

I do not know how I managed this one. When I noticed it I said something but nothing came of that so I decided this note. Apparently I am, for instance, replying to one of them and then maybe the other one. Sometimes I have found that what I put in one is in the other and sometimes not. This is a bit confusing as well. I have also tried to delete one or the other but cannot seem to do that either.

I just took a look at my existing posts for the heck of it. I found that this is just one of several posts that I have done with, exactly, the same names! I am not doing this on purpose. I would that the system would note something like this. I also suspect that them that are in charge are going to tell me that its all my fault and that may be true as I did do it. I never even thought that it might be possible. Before being blamed I can only say that it would be nice that such duplications can no longer take place.

Can anybody help me?

Thank you…

Looking through your activity, I found a single topic: https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/is-there-anyway-to-make-the-extension-manager-on-all-the-time/61846

I have experienced this myself over the years here on Discourse.
Here is how I handle it for myself…

  1. Try to avoid having the same topic open in multiple windows/tabs.
The same page open multiple times won’t harm Discourse in the slightest.
But we humans are a bit more easily confused.

  2. If you discover multiple topics with the same title, compare the URLs.
    Same URL = Same topic.

  3. If you really do have multiple URLs, and thus multiple topics, moderators can merge them.
Simply flag both. You don’t need to explain anything. The moderator will immediately notice that both flags have the same title.
Optional: If you do want to explain the flags, send a PM to @moderators.

As I have found only a single topic (not two), I have taken no further action.

Thank you for the reply.

Its pretty interesting. I just went to my list of posts. I know have 3 with the exact title. This either means that I have three or that every time I post a reply the system gives me a new posting with exactly the same name. In any case it continues to REALLY be confusing!

I have always assumed that I made one posting and that any replies were replies for that posting. I am now wondering if every time I post. Posting or Reply is considered a posting.

Is that the case? Just wondering…

Each of your responses in a topic is an additional post.
If you scroll up and down in that topic, you will see your multiple posts.

So, sure, if you are looking your list of posts, the same topic may appear multiple times.

I might suggest that tracking your active topics (which Discourse does automatically for you) might be less confusing than tracking your posts.

Thanks for the reply…
I am running with ubuntu 24.04.2 (wish there was a way to put that in automatically)

Anyway, your response was interesting. How do I get a list of my topics instead of posts?
When I log in I have two choices, Posts or Topics. The topics, however, include every topic for everybody in order of date and time and not for individuals whi9ch makes it pretty impossible. I must be missing something here?

Thanks again…

Try https://discourse.ubuntu.com/posted

This will give you a list of the topics that YOU have participated in.

Another way to find new activity related to you is to check your avatar in the top-right corner of the browser window…

…as that’s where notifications are about your topics, folks mentioning you, etc.

Tip: When you return to a topic, you WON’T start at the top. Discourse remembers what you have seen. You will start at the first unread post, farther down.

Another option to see only the topics you started is by going here:

This is not all your posts in various topics but only the topics (what we used to call threads on Ubuntu Forums) you initiated.

Scroll down and you can easily see which are still open and which ones solved:

As Ian mentioned, if you need help closing or marking topics as resolved or merging duplicates, please let us know and we will be more than happy to help.

If it helps, you can add a bookmark in your browser for your topics page.
