Hello,

I often close the lid on my M2 Macbook and resume working with it after a while. I never manually stop or suspend the Multipass VMs. So far I haven’t encountered any issues.

My question is whether such use is supported by Multipass? Am I just lucky to not cause any VM image corruption or is this actually defined behavior and supported by Multipass?

Yes, this is expected behaviour. Multipass will automatically suspend your VMs when you close the lid and then resume them when you bring your Macbook out of sleep.
