WHAT IS MICROSOFT
EXCEL?
Microsoft excel is a software
program created by Microsoft
that uses spreadsheets to
organize numbers and data
with formulas and functions.

Microsoft excel enables users to


format , organize and calculate data
in a spreadsheet. By organizing data
using software like excel, data
analysts and other users can make
information easier to view as data is
added or changed.

To open MS Excel on your
computer:
• Click on Start
• Then all programs
• Next step is to click on MS
Office
• Then finally choose the MS-

BAR.
It provides the access to the
most common Word
commands including Save,
Undo, Repeat and Copy. You
can customize, add or delete
buttons on this toolbar
TITLE BAR

The title bar of the excel


workbook refers to the topmost
part in the excel widow. It shows
the open program and the name
of the open file.

BUTTONS
The window control menu items
cover basic window operations,
such as opening, closing and
resizing windows behind other
windows. It can minimize,
maximize, restore and close the
window.
FILE MENU

The file menu is the leftmost item in the Excel


ribbon.
The file ribbon items enable you to perform
file management functions, including open,
save, close, and print.
You also use the file menu to import from
external sources into Excel, along with options
that allows you to tweak Excel itself.
RIBBON

Microsoft Excel ribbon is the row of tabs and icons at the top of the
Excel window that allows you to quickly find, understand and use
commands for completing a certain task.

It contains the commands organized in three components:

a. Tabs-provides access to many tools and contain related groups.


b. Groups-organize related commands. Group name appears below the
Group ribbon.
c. Commands-appear within each group.
NAME BOX

Name Box is a feature in Microsoft Excel that


allows you to create a named range or cell
reference. Instead of referring to cells by
their traditional column and row
coordinates, you can assign a meaningful
name to a range of cells or a single cell
FORMULA BAR

The formula bar is the toolbar at the top of


the spreadsheet that lets you enter or view
information in a cell. To use the formula bar
to view information, click on a cell and look
at the formula bar to see what it written in
it.
ACTIVE CELL

The active cell is the selected cell in which data is


entered when you begin typing.
Only one cell is active at a time. The active cell is
the cell surrounded by black border. Data can only
be entered into the active cell.
Even if more than one cell is selected, there is still
only one active cell at a time.
CELL

A cell is a rectangular area formed by the


intersection of a column and row. Cells are
identified by the Cell Name (or Reference, which is
found by combining the Column Letter with the
Row Number.
Ex. The cell in Column “C” in Row “3” would be
cell C3.
WORKSHEET

A worksheet (also known as a spreadsheet) consists of cells


in which you can enter and calculate data. The cells are
organized into columns and rows. A worksheet is always
stored in a workbook. A workbook can contain many
worksheets.

(Example Sheet 1, Sheet 2, Sheet 3.)


WORKBOOK

This is a file that contains one or more worksheet, which


you can use to organize various kinds of related
information.

And always remember that workbook contains


worksheet with sheet tabs located at the bottom of the
worksheet.
VIEW
BUTTON

It is the main menu and the access


to all programs and files available in
your computer.

It is also used to shut down or


restart your computer.
TASK BAR

It contains the button sized


files that are open.
SCROLL
BARS

It allows you to easily go to


the top or bottom, left or right
of the worksheet.
