Definition

• A proposal is a written document that gets:


Permission to do a construction-project
Grants to do a research-work
Permission to become a supplier.

• A Proposal always offers to solve a problem.

• When we write a proposal in response to an
advertisement, it is called Solicited Proposal.

• Such ads, called RFP [Request for Proposals],


are floated by organizations, when they need
material, services, or research ideas.

Un-Solicited Proposal
• When we place our proposal out of our own
interest, without any ad, it is called
Un-Solicited Proposal.

Title page:
Contains Topic, Name of the person writing the
proposal; His/her company Logo; the name of
the Receiver; Time of Submission.

Letter of Transmittal:
A Cover letter to the receiver, mentioning the
advertisement and the Proposal outline.
Prefatory Parts
• Table of Contents & List of Illustration: Marks
page numbers for the Verbal and Picture-
contents.

• Executive Summary: An Abstract for the


Proposal. A two-page outline of the Proposal.
Main Body
1. Introduction
1a. Problem & Need: Specifies the problem it
targets to solve; and why the Proposer’s
solution is unique.
1b. Background: Gives a history about
the problem, and others’ efforts to solve it.
1c. Objectives: .The technological, social and
economic goals of the project
1d. Scope and limitation: Outlines the technical
boundaries of the project.
Activity: Can you find out
i. the specific goal, and
ii. The long-term objectives
of this Proposal?
2. Technical Procedure
2a. Methods & Sources
Mentions the technology; process, etc. you will
use to complete the project.

2b. Plan:
Sets timeline for each step.

2. Which work will take the longest
time?
3. Managerial Procedure
• Mentions your requirements of:
 Labor
 Equipment
 Infrastructure

• Also mentions the qualifications of your team-


members who are going to execute the
project.

• Gives a table of cost break-up, required by
you.
• Sections covered by it are:
 Raw Materials
 Wage
 Transport
 Equipment
 Contingencies
Conclusion
• Summarizes your proposal to be a good deal
for the Customer.
