Module 2 Qualitative and Quantitative Research

Here are the key differences between qualitative and quantitative research based on what I've learned so far: 1. Aim of research: Qualitative research aims to interpret meanings while quantitative research aims to measure hypotheses. 2. General method of research: Qualitative research involves observing participants and asking open-ended questions while quantitative research tests hypotheses using statistical tools. 3. Sample size: Quantitative research follows certain sample sizes while qualitative research does not necessarily have predetermined sample sizes. 4. Role of the researcher: In qualitative research, the researcher plays an active role in interpreting meanings while in quantitative research, the researcher maintains more objectivity and distance from what is being studied.

Qualitative Research

• More subjective than quantitative

Qualitative Research
• Usually involves gathering,
analyzing, and interpreting data
based on observations made about
the participants of the study.
Qualitative Research
• Aims to interpret meanings,
descriptions, and symbols.
Qualitative Research
• The researchers ask the participant to
respond to some questions and further
probe the answers by giving follow-up
questions to get a thorough response to a
certain question.
Examples of Qualitative Research
• Students’ images of chemistry
• Gender and cultural gaps in the
classroom
• Science practices of the Mangyan tribe
Quantitative Research
•Research questions are usually
geared toward measuring
hypothesis using statistical tools.
Quantitative Research
•This more objective than a
qualitative research method.
Quantitative Research
•Good statistical are important in
deciding possible outcomes or
conclusions for the success of the
research.
Quantitative Research
•It follows certain sample size in
the use of the subjects or
respondents of the study.
Examples of Quantitative Research
• Predictors of science performance
• Growth performance of organic fertilizer
• Population rate in Metro Manila in the
next 20 years.
