III. PROCEDURES TEACHER’S ACTIVITY STUDENT’S ACTIVITY

1) Reviewing previous lesson ELICIT
or presenting a new lesson • Greetings
• Attendance
Yesterday, we discussed about
Uniformly Accelerated Motion in
Horizontal dimension. Again, what Vf= Final Velocity
are the variables that we used in Vi= Initial Velocity
UAM in horizontal dimension? a= Acceleration
t= time
d= displacement/distance

How about units involved in UAM in m/s, m/s2, m and s sir.

horizontal dimension?

Okay, Very good! No questions No ma’am

about the last topic?

Establishing a purpose for the ENGAGE

lesson
Before we proceed to our next
2) lesson, I will show you some
pictures and you will define each.
Are we clear?

First picture (Picture of floating

astronaut)

• Okay, why astronaut is Because there is no Gravity

floating? ma’am.

• Why do you think that we are Ma’am because of the gravity

not floating?

• So, based on you prior Gravity is a force which tries

knowledge, what is gravity? to pull two objects toward
each other.

Next picture: acceleration due to

gravity

Acceleration due to gravity

What is the value of acceleration 9.8 m/s² ma’am
due to gravity?

What does it mean by 9.8 m/s²? It is the force of gravity

produces in all free-falling
objects.

For today’s topic, we will discuss

the Uniformly Accelerated
Motion in Vertical Dimension. Do
you have any idea about it?

I have questions class. Is the rate of Yes ma’am

gravity the same for all objects on
earth?

Actually class, all objects free fall at

the same rate regardless of their
mass. Because of 9.8 N/kg
gravitational field at Earth’s surface
causes a 9.8 m/s² acceleration of
any object placed there, we often
call this ratio the acceleration of
gravity.

Do you understand? Yes ma’am

3) The Presenting EXPLORE

examples/instances of the
new lesson We have different equations that
we will use in computing the
velocity, height and time for free fall
or downward motion. Here are the
equations.

4 UAM equation
(Vertical Dimensions)

𝑽𝒇𝒚 = 𝑽𝒊𝒚 + 𝒂𝒚𝒕

𝒅𝒚 = 𝑽𝒊 𝒚𝒕 + 𝟏/𝟐𝒂𝒚𝒕𝟐
𝑽𝟐𝒇 𝒚 = 𝑽𝒊𝟐 𝒚 + 𝟐𝒂𝒚𝒅𝒚
𝑽𝒇𝒚 − 𝑽𝒊𝒚
𝒅𝒚 = 𝒕
𝟐
Vertical Motion is also called a free
fall. When an object is acted upon
by the sole influence of gravity.

Any object that comes up must

come down and the only influence
is the gravity.

Class, I want you to process this

simple scenario. I will call two
students to simple activity in front.
And I want you all to observe
properly. This activity called PA-
FALL

One student will carry the

uncrumpled paper and the other is
the crumpled paper. They will drop
the object at the same time.

• Which object reach the The crumple paper ma’am

ground first?

• Why the crumpled paper Because the uncrumpled

reaches the ground first than paper has air resistance. And
the uncrumpled one? the crumpled paper has low
air or no air resistance.

• Why do all objects fall to the Ma’am it is because of the

ground instead of floating in gravity
the air?

2 KINDS OF FREE FALL

1. An object is dropped.
2. An object is thrown vertically
straight and goes back down.

Do you have an idea why these

given examples of Free Fall?

Let’s discuss this one by one.

(The teacher will use chalk and

board for the students to
comprehend more with the given
examples.)

4) Discussing new concept EXPLAIN

and practicing new skills
#1 Now we will be going to use the
same equation the 4 UAM

4 UAM equation
𝑽𝒇 = 𝑽𝒊 + 𝒂𝒕
𝒅 = 𝑽𝒊 𝒕 + 𝟏/𝟐𝒂𝒕𝟐
𝑽𝟐𝒇 = 𝑽𝒊𝟐 + 𝟐𝒂𝒅
𝑽𝒇 + 𝑽𝒊
𝒅= 𝒕
𝟐
The vertical motion happens in the
y-axis component. In the horizontal
we added X in every variable
except for the time because is
independent. Now here in vertical
motion you will add Y instead of X.
It will look like this.

𝑽𝒇𝒚 = 𝑽𝒊𝒚 + 𝒂𝒚𝒕

𝒅𝒚 = 𝑽𝒊 𝒚𝒕 + 𝟏/𝟐𝒂𝒚𝒕𝟐
𝑽𝟐𝒇 𝒚 = 𝑽𝒊𝟐 + 𝟐𝒂𝒚𝒅𝒚
𝑽𝒇𝒚 + 𝑽𝒊𝒚
𝒅𝒚 = 𝒕
𝟐

Let’s focus first if the object is

dropped, you should consider that if
we dropped an object

𝑽𝒊𝒚 - 0 m/s
𝒂𝒚 - -9.81 m/s2
𝒅𝒚 -?
𝒕-?
𝑽𝒇𝒚 -?

We should have 3 variables to

solve the problem.

For example:
A rock was dropped on the top of
the building and hits the ground
after 5 seconds.

A. What is the height of the

building?

Only use the 4 AUM.

We are looking of the

displacement.

First step in solving problem

Given:
𝒕 - 5s
𝑽𝒊𝒚 - 0 m/s
𝒂𝒚 - -9.8 m/s2
𝒅𝒚 -?

In choosing the formula it should

have all given variables that we
have.

• Let’s try to solve the second Second step.

step Formula and solution:
𝒅𝒚 = 𝑽𝒊 𝒚𝒕 + 𝟏/𝟐𝒂𝒚𝒕𝟐
𝒅𝒚 = (𝟎𝒎/𝒔)(𝟓𝒔) + 𝟏/𝟐𝒂𝒚𝒕𝟐
𝒅𝒚 = (. 𝟓)(−𝟗. 𝟖𝒎/𝒔²)(𝟓𝒔)𝟐
𝒅𝒚 = (−𝟒. 𝟗𝒎/𝒔²)(𝟐𝟓𝒔)𝟐

𝒅𝒚 = -122.5m

Now you have learned to solve the

displacement.

𝑽𝒊𝒚 = 0 m/s
𝒂𝒚 = -9.81 m/s2
𝒅𝒚 =
𝒕=?
𝑽𝒇𝒚 =?

Next is the time.

A rock was dropped on the top of

the building that is 122.5m high.

A. How long will the rock hit the

ground?

Now the answer in the problem

number should match on this
problem. I just going to show you
the relationship of this equations.

• Let’s try to solve the First step

problem Given:

𝒅𝒚 = -122.5m
𝑽𝒊𝒚 = 0 m/s
𝒂𝒚 = -9.81 m/s2
𝒕-?

Second step.
Formula and solution:

𝒅𝒚 = 𝑽𝒊 𝒚𝒕 + 𝟏/𝟐𝒂𝒚𝒕𝟐
𝟏𝟐𝟐. 𝟓𝒎 = 𝟏/𝟐𝒂𝒚𝒕𝟐
−𝟏𝟐𝟐. 𝟓𝒎 = (. 𝟓)(−𝟗. 𝟖𝒎/𝒔𝟐) 𝒕𝟐
−𝟏𝟐𝟐. 𝟓𝒎 = - 4.9m/s2 𝒕𝟐
−𝟏𝟐𝟐. 𝟓𝒎 = 𝒕𝟐
- 4.9m/s2 =𝒕𝟐

25s𝟐 = t

squareroot25s𝟐 = t

Final answer
5s=t
We have arrived the same answer
from the first problem. Its shows the
other relation of the equation.
Now, let’s move to the final velocity.

The problem
Nana was standing on top of a
building and drops a rock & hits the
ground after 5 seconds

A. What is the final velocity just

before it hits the ground?

Step 1
What are the given? Only time
which is 5 sec, you need 3
variables, there are hidden given
there.

𝑽𝒊𝒚 - 0 m/s
𝒂𝒚 - -9.81 m/s2
𝒕 - 5s
𝑽𝒇𝒚- ?

Step 2
Formula.

𝑽𝒇𝒚 = 𝑽𝒊𝒚 + 𝒂𝒚𝒕

𝑽𝒇𝒚 = 𝑽𝒊𝒚 + 𝒂𝒚𝒕
Now, we have already the given 𝑽𝒇 𝒚 = 𝟎 𝒎/𝒔 + (−𝟗. 𝟖 𝒎/𝒔²)(𝟓𝒔)
and the formula. Let’s try to solve. 𝑽𝒇 𝒚 = −𝟒𝟗 𝒎/𝒔

5) Developing mastery ELABORATE

(Leads to formative
Assessment 3) Now let’s try on this problem.

Baxia was standing on the top of a

building that is 122.5 m high and
decided to drop a rock.
What is the final velocity of the rock
just before it hits the ground?

It’s a little different because the

given is the displacement/height.

Step 1
Given:

𝑽𝒊𝒚 - 0 m/s
𝒂𝒚 - -9.81 m/s2
𝒅𝒚 -122.5m
𝑽𝒇𝒚 -?
Step 2
Formula

𝑽𝟐𝒇 𝒚 = 𝑽𝒊𝟐 + 𝟐𝒂𝒚𝒅𝒚

• Who would like to try?

𝑽𝟐𝒇 𝒚 = 𝑽𝒊𝟐 + 𝟐𝒂𝒚𝒅𝒚
𝑽𝟐𝒇 𝒚 = 𝟎𝟐 𝒎/𝒔 + 𝟐(−𝟗. 𝟖 𝒎/𝒔²) (−𝟏𝟐𝟐 𝒎
𝑽𝟐𝒇 𝒚 = (−𝟏𝟗. 𝟔 𝒎/𝒔²)(−𝟏𝟐𝟐 𝒎)
𝑽𝒚 = √𝟐𝟑𝟗𝟏. 𝟐
𝑽𝒚 = 𝟒𝟗

• Didi you archived the same Yes, ma’am

answer?

As you can observed, it has the same

answer from our problem 3.

why do you think that it has a same set

of given?

Because I want you to try to

experiment and put the value of the
given on the 4 equations and
eventually you will realize that are
equations are correct.

Knowing how to calculate and solve

problems and being familiar with
the terms we discussed today, you
must know how to apply your
