AI & ML in Manufacturing

What is AI

• Artificial intelligence (AI) is the simulation of human intelligence processes by

machines, especially computer systems.
Classification of AI

• Weak AI or Narrow AI: It is focused on one narrow task, the phenomenon that
machines which are not too intelligent to do their own work can be built in such
a way that they seem smart.
• Strong AI: The machines that can actually think and perform tasks on its own
just like a human being. There are no proper existing examples for this.
Classification based on
Functionalities
• Reactive machines - This is one of the basic forms of AI. It doesn’t have past memory and
cannot use past information to information for the future actions. Example:- IBM chess program
that beat Garry Kasparov in the 1990s.
• Limited memory - AI systems can use past experiences to inform future decisions. Some of the
decision-making functions in self-driving cars have been designed this way.
• Theory of mind - This type of AI should be able to understand people’s emotion, belief,
thoughts and be able to interact socially
• Self-awareness - An AI that has it’s own conscious, super intelligent, self-awareness and
sentient

There are many ways AI can be achieved some of
them are as follows

Machine Learning

• Machine learning is an application of artificial intelligence (AI) that provides

systems the ability to automatically learn and improve from experience
without being explicitly programmed.
• Machine learning is also a core part of AI
• Learning without any kind of supervision
• Learning with adequate supervision
Deep Learning

• Deep learning is a machine learning technique that teaches computers to do what

comes naturally to humans: learn by example.
• Deep learning is a key technology behind driverless cars, enabling them to recognize
a stop sign, or to distinguish a pedestrian from a lamppost.
• Deep learning models can achieve state-of-the-art accuracy, sometimes exceeding
human-level performance.
• Models are trained by using a large set of labeled data and neural network
architectures that contain many layers.

Roadmap for Achieving AI
Tools for AI & ML

• Textio - This AI tool uses predictive technology to help organizations write better job
listings, as it analyzes every word and make it sound lucrative to potential
candidates.
• Conversica - This AI tool connects with the leads multiple times through automated,
two-way email conversations. Designed to reach out and connect with the gross sales
leads
• X.ai - As soon as an individual receives a meeting request, X.ai works back-and-forth
to pin down a place and time and also responds and schedules all emails like a
natural user.

Tools for AI & ML

• Tamr - This is mainly a data integration tool, which solves data curation problems and helps
businesses save up to 20% of human efforts. It uses a data-driven, bottom-up approach and
integrates numerous data sources into a single model.
• DigitalGenius - DigitalGenius is a smart tool that is fueled by AI and natural language
processing (NLP) and carries out human-like conversations with customers via calls and SMS.
• Recorded Future - This AI tool serves as a threat intelligence system, which helps businesses to
predict future threats and keeps them at lower threat risks. It makes use of machine learning
to detect any kind of external threats to the company and responds to them at a much faster
rate.

Tools for AI & ML

• DataRPM - This is one of the best AI-based tools, which processes a variety of
company data in a short time and predicts various things, such as potential
asset failures, factors responsible for frequent repairing of tools, and the
importance of timely maintenance. In this way, DataRPM helps businesses in
reducing their operational costs by a considerable extent.

IMPACT OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN LOGISTICS…..

Predictive capabilities
Capacity planning and accurate demand forecasting
 Using data from online shops and forums to predict unexpected volume
spikes for trending products
Logistics providers and suppliers can then avoid costly overstocks or out-of-
stock situations that result in lost sales for both the supplier and the consumer.
IMPACT OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN LOGISTICS…..

Robotics
Used to track, locate and move inventory within the warehouses
 Robots with the help of deep learning algorithms make autonomous decisions regarding the
different processes that are performed in the warehouse
Big data
Big Data helps to optimize future performance and forecast accurate outlooks better than
ever
When combined with AI, it helps to improve different areas of supply chain like supply chain
transparency and route optimization.
IMPACT OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN LOGISTICS…..

Autonomous vehicles
driverless trucks
assisted braking
lane-assist
highway autopilot
IMPACT OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN SUPPLY
CHAIN…..

AI offers contextual intelligence

Used to reduce the operating costs and manage inventory
AI-powered Visual Inspection to identify damage and carry out needed
correction by taking photos of the cargo by using special cameras
Selection of the supplier and its effectiveness
IMPACT OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN SUPPLY
CHAIN…..

Factory scheduling and production planning

Analyze the different issues and then optimize by balancing the constraints
Back-office AI
Cognitive automation can be applied to critical logistics tasks such as ensuring
the most updated customer addresses to bolster successful deliveries

UPS
• Uses an AI-powered GPS tool called ORION (On-road Integrated Optimization and
Navigation) to create the most efficient routes for its fleet
• Customers, drivers and vehicles submit data to the machine, which then uses
algorithms to create the most optimal routes
• Optimizing delivery routes has a huge impact on all areas of UPS' business, from
saving time and money to reducing emissions and wear and tear on its trucks
• The company saves $50 million a year
