Miguel Lopez de Legazpi sent Martin de Goiti to search for a suitable place to establish the Spanish colonial capital in the Philippines. In 1570, de Goiti found the city of Manila and its rulers, Rajah Solaiman, Rajah Lakandula, and Rajah Matanda. In 1571, the Spaniards began conquering Manila after Rajah Solaiman misunderstood the Spaniards' intentions and started a battle between his tribe and the Spanish forces.
