a Feature Story out of the News?
Use Facts,
Feelings and
Imagination.

Use adjectives, figures of speech, dialogue,


stories, and/or idioms.
Two students were caught cheating in an exam.

In two minutes, finals would be officially over. He still has


two problems left unanswered. His palms were getting sweaty. It
was the most desperate period of his life. Whispering to the braided
brunette in front of him, he signaled for answers. Slowly, the girl
passed him a note with answers. He reached out. But the teacher
got the note first.
Feature Stories Are Emotional
• Emphasize on facts that can
trigger a SIGNIFICANT
HUMAN INTEREST.

Kinds of Feature Stories
• News Feature (Journalistic), Lathalaing pabalita– tells about recent
events and usually focuses on human experiences.

to know? Why would they want to know about it?

• Human Interest Feature, Lathalaing pangkatauhang dagli - a


story involving people, their troubles, failures and successes. This story can
make readers relate to it as if it happened to them too.

• Travelogue, Lathalain sa paglalakbay - describes a place and the


kind of people met during travel
Other Kinds of Feature Stories
Personality Sketch - a semi-biography of a newsworthy person.
Historical Feature - narrates the evolution of something (place,
celebration, culture.)
Analytical Feature – dissects problems and describes a solution
Seasonal Feature – uses an old theme with some fresh insights
or information
Science/Sports feature - story related to science/sports
How do you make people want to read your article?
