READING
Task 1: Read the text and answer the questions.

Everyone knows that it is often difficult for students to concentrate at school. We asked our readers
for some answers.

Harry

Yes – it’s really difficult to study at school when you’re tired. We get a lot of homework every night.
Sometimes I watch TV after doing my work and then I go to bed very late. I like playing online
games with friends in different countries, but I haven’t got time.

About a year ago, it was very bad. Some pupils in my class were very tired and went to sleep in
class! So, the school decided to make some changes. At my cousin’s school they changed the start
time – 9.00 and not 8.00 – and finished the school day later. But at our school they did something
different. They changed our start time to from 8.00 to 9.00 too, but we finished at the usual time. We
had a short lunch break, and they organised Saturday morning lessons! They were not popular!

My friends were angry because they couldn’t have swimming or tennis lessons, and other pupils
liked to go away for weekends. The lessons continued on Saturday mornings for two months, but
then they stopped. Many parents wrote letters to the school to complain. Also, a lot of pupils didn’t
go to the lessons! The teachers organised a big meeting for all the pupils and we talked about the
problem.

Now we start at 9.00 but we finish later, like at my cousin’s school. It’s fine. We’re all happy
because we can stay in bed for another hour and Saturdays are free. The teachers are happy because
