TITLE OF THE ACTIVITY: Empowering Youth: SK Budgeting and Team
Building Workshop
BACKGROUND
The Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) of Barangay P.I. Garcia is organizing a two-fold activity:
Budgeting Workshop and Team Building Exercises. These activities aim to enhance the
financial literacy, leadership skills, and camaraderie among the members of the SK Council. By
focusing on budgeting skills, the SK members will be equipped with the necessary knowledge to
manage funds for youth programs, projects, and community services effectively. On the other
hand, team-building activities will strengthen the bond between SK members, improve
communication, and foster a collaborative spirit for more efficient governance and project
implementation.

This event seeks to contribute to the personal and professional growth of the SK members, while
also building a more unified, productive, and transparent council.

RATIONALE
The Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Council of Barangay P.I. Garcia, Naval, Biliran, has a
significant role in empowering the youth and driving initiatives that contribute to the
community's social, cultural, and economic development. One of the essential skills that
the SK Council must develop is effective budgeting and teamwork, as these are critical
elements in ensuring the success and sustainability of youth-driven programs and projects.

1. SK Budgeting Activity

The SK Council is tasked with managing the funds allocated by the local government for
youth-oriented programs, activities, and projects. Proper budgeting ensures the efficient
and transparent use of resources, fosters accountability, and maximizes the impact of the
SK's initiatives. The Budgeting Activity aims to educate the members of the SK Council
about:

 Financial Literacy: Understanding the principles of budgeting, including allocation,


disbursement, and monitoring.
 Resource Management: Equipping the council members with the tools to manage public
funds responsibly.
 Transparency: Ensuring that the SK projects and programs are aligned with the needs of
the community and the objectives set forth by the SK Council.
 Strategic Planning: Emphasizing the importance of planning for the long-term sustainability
of programs while considering short-term needs and objectives.

2. Team Building Activity

The Team Building Activity is designed to foster cooperation, communication, and


collaboration among the members of the SK Council. Given that the SK Council is a
collective body, strong teamwork is essential for achieving the group’s goals. This activity
aims to:

 Strengthen Communication: Promote open dialogue and understanding among the


members to enhance coordination and decision-making.
 Build Trust and Cooperation: Encourage a culture of mutual respect and support, which is
essential for overcoming challenges and ensuring successful implementation of projects.
 Enhance Leadership Skills: Provide opportunities for council members to showcase
leadership abilities, learn from one another, and build a cohesive leadership team.
 Foster Unity: A unified team can work efficiently and effectively in delivering programs that
respond to the needs of the community.

3. Integrating Both Activities


By combining the Budgeting and Team Building activities, the SK Council of Barangay P.I.
Garcia will benefit in multiple ways:
 Practical Application: The team building will provide the foundation for collaboration, while
the budgeting activity will ground the team in the practical aspects of managing funds,
ensuring that the members are not only able to work well together but also handle financial
responsibilities efficiently.
 Holistic Development: The SK members will develop both their financial literacy and
interpersonal skills, which are essential for their personal growth and for fulfilling their
responsibilities as youth leaders.
 Effective Program Implementation: The synergy between solid teamwork and effective
budgeting will ensure that the SK’s youth programs and projects are well-organized,
sustainable, and impactful in the long run.

Republic Act No. 10742 (Sangguniang Kabataan Reform Act of 2015)
OBJECTIVE
SK Budgeting Workshop:
 To equip the SK Council members with practical knowledge in budgeting and managing finances for
youth development programs.
 To introduce tools and techniques for transparent and accountable budgeting.
 To help SK members understand the importance of prioritizing projects and allocating funds
effectively.
Team Building Activities:
 To improve teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills within the council.
 To develop trust and solidarity among the SK members.
 To encourage a positive working environment that promotes collaboration and efficient decision-
making.

TARGET PARTICIPANTS
Primary Participants: Sangguniang Kabataan Council Members of Barangay P.I. Garcia
Secondary Participants: Youth leaders, volunteers, and barangay officials who may be
involved in SK programs or initiatives.
