Abstract
Abstract
Construction industry is deliberated to be one of the most substantial industries due to its
contribution to gross domestic product (GDP) and also in terms of its social and economic
importance (R. U. Farooqui et al., 2008). This industry faces higher accident statistics which
not only damaging its reputation but also posing a challenge to future innovation (Y. Zou et
al., 2017). Workplace safety of the construction is very important for each and every
employee on site because all the workers desire to work in a safe and protected atmosphere. It
is responsibility of the contractor to give the safe environment. A majority of construction
accidents are neither reported nor documented except for those which gain public or media
attention. Thus without appropriate information, it is difficult to perform operative safety
planning (Raheem & Issa, 2016). In construction safety the Improving the health and worker
safety continues to be a major goal in the Architectural, Engineering and Construction
(AEC) industry (J. A. Gambatese et al., 2002). safety communication is a challenging task
under the dynamic and rigorous jobsite conditions. In view of all the existing problems, the
AECO industry needs to improve inadequacies of existing manual practices so that safety
improvements can be attained with the help of innovative technology (Zhang et al., 2013).
The Proactive identification and elimination of potential hazards of the site is safer and more
cost effective than reactive management (Toole and Gambatese, 2008). The prevention
through design (PTD) promotes early consideration of safety and health hazards during the
design phase of a construction project. With early intervention, hazards can be more
effectively eliminated or controlled leading to safer worksites and construction processes
(Goh & Chua, 2016). The visualization technique is the most appropriate tool for effective
safety management because of the advantages such as information exchange between
different stakeholders and generating walk-throughs for ideas transmission (Bouchlaghem et
al., 2005).Building Information Modelling (BIM), a visual demonstration of physical and
functional properties of a facility, helps in explaining the concepts using 3D or 4D
visualizations. (L. Ding et al., 2014; Ganah & John, 2015; S. Zhang, 2015). In BIM model
gives visualization in the design face of the project. BIM can be utilized for better
construction safety by developing close link of safety issues with construction planning. The
applications of the BIM in construction and building design is growth rapidly within the
AEC industry by improving the efficiencies of the different projects by clear visualization
incorporating different strategies into the building process(Zhang et al., 2015). During the
operation of the building, many accidents still occur with distressing frequency and cause
many fatalities or serious injuries reason beyond its technical design features. Now need to
evaluate the building design in the aspect of the initial stage of safety. To achieve this aim
there is the necessary the know the safety problems and their solution by giving the safety
score to the building using BIM tools. Then improve the construction safety by prevention
through the design of the building automatically to make the building safe in safety
perspective.
