III. Procedures

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

I. Preliminary Activities
1. Prayer
“Everybody please stand and let’s start
the day with a simple prayer.

We have muslims prayers and Christian

prayer. For the muslim prayer, may I call
Suffian to lead the prayer

Pupils will stand up and say the prayer.

For the Christian prayer, may I call John
(Suffian lead the muslim prayer)
Mark to lead the prayer.

2. Greetings
“Good Morning Class!” (John Mark lead the Christian prayer)

3. Energizer
“Let’s stretch our body with an energizer”
(audio music presentation) Good Morning sir!
4. Checking of Attendance
“leaders, will you please report the
attendance of your groups? May we hear
from the group 1?”
(Group leaders will report)

“im glad that there is no absent in my group sir.”

Very good. How about the group 2?”

“ im proud to say that none of my classmates is
absent in group 2 sir’
“That’s good to know, what about the last
group”
Im glad that there is no absent in my group sir”

“great! Since no one is absent today give

yourself 3 claps”

(the pupils will clap 3 times)

II. Review of Previous Lesson
“ Class, can you remember our
lesson yesterday?”
Yes sir!
“who can give our previous
lesson?”
(One volunteer to give the topic of the past
lesson)

“ Safety measure Before, During and After an

Earthquake”
Very Good!
“For our review, I will flash picture
showing safety precautions on the
screen, then you will identify if it
should be done before, during, or
after an earthquake”

“Who can identify the first

picture?”

1. Before
“Very good! What about this
picture?”

2. During
“Very good!” The third picture is
being done when?”

3. After
“Very good class!”

“You really understand our lesson yesterday.”

III. A. Presenting the New Lesson

“Class, Have you seen the fountain?”

Yes sir!

“Will you give an example of fountain that you

have seen? Yes,_______.”

Firecracker fountain

“Very good! This is an example of fire cracker

fountain”
“Will you give another example of fountain?
Yes,________.”
Water fountain

“Excellent! This is an example of water

fountain”

“Another example, yes,__________.”

Chocolate fountain

“Bravo, can you identify the similar activity of

the examples that you have given?”

“There is something that is being sent up to the

air and falls back”

“You got exactly the point. Now can you think

of a landform that you can compare to the
activity of a fountain?”

“A volcano has a similar activity like a fountain”

“Nice, the activity of a volcano erupting is
similar to a fountain. Let me show you a
picture of volcano.”
B. Establishing a Purpose for the Lesson

“Alright class, now let us have a group game. I

prepared a set of puzzle. I will give each group
a paper bag. I want you to arrange the puzzle
from the paper bag to form the picture. After
arranging the puzzle, post your work on the
board. The fastest group will win the game. Is
that clear class?”

“Yes sir!”
“But before we start, what are the things to
remember when doing an activity

Yes,_______.”
“Work cooperatively.”

That’s good!
“work quickly.”
What else? Yes,_______.”

“ Now that the important things to remember

when doing an activity, are you ready to
start?” “Yes, we are ready”

“Okay, go!”

(Pupils arrange the puzzle)

Group _________wins the game. Let’s give
them a clap,

(The group will also receive a reward)

Now, let us consider the puzzles posted in the

board. What have you formed in the puzzles?”
It shows different volcanoes

“Great job!”

(The teacher will write the word volcano on

the board)

“Everybody let’s read what is written on the

board.”
“Volcano!”

(The teacher will write on the board)

Everybody read.
“This is a landform that is formed by the rising of
molten rocks beneath the earth’s surface.”
C. Presenting Examples or Instances of the
New Lesson

“I have here a short video clip about

volcanoes but before you watch the video, let
us refresh your mind about the things to be
consider while watching?

Yes,______.”
“Watch silently.”

“Right! Another.
“Be attentive.”
Yes,______.”

Good!

You will also take down important details that

to be shown in the video.

Is that, clear, class?”

“Yes sir!”

(The teacher will play the video clip)

“Did you understand the video clip?”

“Yes sir!”

“Very good! Now, what is lava?”

“It is a molten rock comes out from the volcano.”

“Very well said. Based on the video. What is

magma?” “A liquid rock when it is under the surface.”

“Excellent!”
Where did magma accumulate?”

“It accumulated at the center.”

“Great!

When the pressure cannot longer be

contained where did volcano erupts?”

“It erupts through the center and side vents.”

“You got it!

What are the common gases emitting by the

volcano?”
Sulfur Dioxide

“That’s correct! Another.

Yes, _____.”

Hydrogen Chloride

“You all really attentive during the video

Watching. Give yourselves five claps”

(The pupils will clap five times)

E. Discussing the New Concept and Practicing
New Skills

“Let’s go back to the picture you formed. Can

you name some volcanoes that you know in
the Philippines and where you can find them?
Yes,______.”

Mayon volcano in Albay

“Very good example! Mayon volcano is known
worldwide with the most perfect cone, shape.
Another example?

Yes,_______.”
Taal volcano in Batangas

“Excellent! Taal volcano is the smallest

volcano in the Philippines.

Another, ______.”

Mt. Pinatubo in Zambales

“Very good! The nearest volcano in our place,

located in Zambales, Mt. Pinatubo is one of
the most devastating volcanoes that erupted
in the year 1991.”

“These are just few examples of volcanoes

that we have here in the Philippines.”

“Have you ever watched a volcanic eruption

shown on television?”
“Yes sir!”

How does it look like when it erupts?”

“It emits volcanic gases and smoke into the air.”

“To further study about the volcano and its

parts, let’s study the presentation in the wide
screen.”
“I’m holding something, can you identify what
model is this?
“A model of a volcano”

“Do you want to see how to erupt a volcano?”

“Yes sir!”
“Now, we will be having an experiment to
demonstrate and describe how volcanoes
erupt. We will be able to know more about
volcanic eruption.”

“Before we proceed with the experiment, who

can give the different parts of the volcano
using the model?”

(A volunteer will give the parts of a volcano using

the model provided)

“For our today’s experiment, we need baking

soda, red food color, dishwashing liquid and
vinegar.”

“But before you start, will you please tell the

different things that we have to consider or
remember while having a group activity.”

S-stay with your group

C-challenge yourself

I-immediately follow directions

E-engage your mind

N-note important details

C-consider other idea

E-explain your answer

“Always remember the acronym SCIENCE in

recalling the standard to be followed in doing
a group activity. Is that clear class?”
“Yes sir!”

I prepared an activity paper for you to answer.

I will give you 10 minutes for this experiment.

You may now start.

(The pupils will perform the experiment)

“Yes sir!”
F. Discussing New Concepts New Skills

(The pupils in group 1 will report their

observations)
“Are you done class?”

“Can you hear your observation report, Group

1?”

“You did it well! Give yourself a fruitful clap.

Let’s hear the work of group 2

(The pupils in group 2 will report their

observations)

“Excellent. Let’s give them a huge

congratulations clap. Now let’s listen to the
group 3”
(The pupils in group 3 will report their
observations)
“Great job. All of you deserve magnificent
clap.”

(Each group will receive an award)

G. Developing Mastery

(There will be a collaboration between the

teacher and the pupils regarding with the
information about the volcano)
F. Finding Practical Applications of Concepts of
Skills and Daily Livings

“Imagine that we have a kettle with water.

How can we know that the water is boiling?
Anyone, Yes________”

“The kettle will whistle.”

“Exactly, what have you notice when the
kettle is boiling and producing a sound”

“There is a vapor coming out in the kettle hole”

“OK. What if we put something in the hole to

block the release of pressure from the kettle.
What do you think will happen?”

“The kettle will explode.”

“You got the point. Let’s think that the kettle
is similar to a volcano and when the water
reaches its boiling point the kettle will whistle.
That is similar to a volcanic eruption.”

“From the comparison, is the volcanic

eruption important even if it is devastating?”

“Yes sir! Volcanic eruption is important to help

the earth release its pressure from within.”

“You hit the thought. What do you think are

the other benefits of volcanoes?”
“It becomes

“Very good! Another.

Yes,_________.”

“Excellent! Volcanoes provide benefits to

humans, other living things and environment
but a volcanic eruption is still a natural
disaster that can harm all living things.”

“If you were living in a place near the volcano,

what are the preventive measures that we can
do in case of volcanic eruption in the vicinity?

Yes,______.”

“You got it. What else?”

“That’s correct! Living near volcanoes is risky.

However, we can minimized harmful effect if
we are aware on what to do. But to be safe
avoid going to the danger zone of the
volcano.”

“To know more about the activity of any

volcano here in our country, we can rely in the
PHIVOLCS. Who among you have heard about
PHIVOLCS?”

“can you share your knowledge about

PHIVOLCS?”

(The teacher will call one volunteer)

“Very well said. Now we all know about what
PHIVOLCS is and it its work which is providing
information about any volcanic activity and
earthquake here in the Philippines.”

IV. Making generalization and

Abstractions about the Lesson

“ Now class, after all the discussion and fun

activities that we have, let’s sing a song to
help us to remember our lesson today”

J. Evaluating learning

Direction. Label the parts of volcano below

1._________________________________

2._________________________________

3._________________________________
4.__________________________________

B. Read each semtence. Put a / if it is proper

thing to do before, during and after a volcanic
eruption. Put X it it is not.

_______1. Stay in shelter away from the site

of volcanic eruption.

_______2. Stay outdoors while the volcano

near your house is erupting.

________3. Use dust masks when clearning

out ash fall.

________4. Always listen to the advice of

authorities.

________5. Play with volcanic ash.

________6. Stay calm and do not panic.

k. Additional Activities for application or

Remediation

Directions. Unscramble the letters to spell out

what is describe or defined in each number.

___________1. LVAA…………….molten
materials flow out to the surface.

___________2. NLOVAOC……..formed by the

rising rocks beneath the surface.
